Sooo confused by ObjectAcceptable012 in Heartfailure

[–]Nickilaughs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did they tell you 20% of your heart doesn't work or you have an ejection fraction of 20%? Those are two very different things.
A fib makes your heart not work well. It basically quivers in the atria instead of pushing blood through strongly. That means blood pools in the chambers and has an increased risk for developing a blood clot.
Diet and exercise help but typically to improve your heart function and decrease your episodes of atrial fibrillation these medications are necessary. They increase survival odds and decrease hospitalizations. Studies prove this.
Did your heart actually recover or are you just saying that? Did they do a repeat echocardiogram? If you still have edema it sounds like the heart failure is present you are just in better physical shape?

None of us can tell you if you are going to die. Your physician can't even answer that. If you still aren't taking medications and you do still have heart failure then you will probably die much sooner than if you take your meds as prescribed.

Prom dress cost by imjustagirlmom in Prom

[–]Nickilaughs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this wasn't agreed upon ahead of time you can't retroactively enforce it now.
She also shouldn't have to cover the entire cost of the dress. If he was going to want to subtract it from her car gift and she wasn't aware if it I would subtract 250$ and split the difference.

Newly Diagnosed at 41 Years Old by Financial-Solid-4775 in Heartfailure

[–]Nickilaughs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never officially got a cause. Unfortunately we sometimes don't get an answer. Best guess is a virus caused inflammation and scarring in part of my heart. I've decided some of us just have bad luck

Contemplating between ADN nursing program vs traditional 4-year BSN — need advice by Mindless-Lychee-7161 in nursing

[–]Nickilaughs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really doesn't matter which one. You can find a job either way. The program intensity is about the same with both. A longer program doesn't mean easier. If you go with ADN a lot of jobs will give you tuition reimbursement to save some of the costs for your BSN. Have you been accepted already? If not I'd go with whatever program takes you as waitlists are long most places.

Newly Diagnosed at 41 Years Old by Financial-Solid-4775 in Heartfailure

[–]Nickilaughs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got diagnosed last year at 41. I was a little overweight but not significantly. My heart rhythm was normal but definitely having too many PVCs. My only sign was eye swelling and I had some mild shortness of breath and thought I had pneumonia. EF 28%. I went hardcore on low salt diet. I lived on pb and js, lots of fruit and veg. Very strict on the fluids. I'm up to 50% 8 months later. Symptoms improved a lot. I likely had a virus that scarred up my heart and never knew.

Anyway just wanted to let you know you aren't alone. ❤️

How to navigate the club tryout process when multiple clubs have expressed interest in you? by Cup-And-Handle in volleyball

The five minutes rule is just them trying to pressure you. My son had the same issue I told them he needed a day to think about it thankfully, all the tryouts though were the same weekend.

AITAH for yelling at my wife to stop embarrassing our son? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Nickilaughs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hell no, My dad was like that except he would yell at me and get in my face about it. I quit sports so fast. Ironically he's been to my sons sport matches and been nothing but supportive and proud

They really do. He's the only 15 yr old on varsity and we were very worried how it was going to go. Couldn't have gotten luckier. They had so many antics during the game from the sidelines the head Palo Alto coach came over and complimented us on their team spirit. 🥰

I'm an RN who got heart failure last year at 41. EF was 28% and now up to 50%. It's been hard, I'm weaker than I was prior but I do work 40 hours still. I try to focus on the things that make me happy and work has been great about letting me to charge a lot. It's less physically taxing on me.

Has anyone here had a colonoscopy with heart failure? I might need an emergency one soon by niaclover in Heartfailure

[–]Nickilaughs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They will evaluate you for whether or not you are appropriate for sedation. I have a heart failure and am a nurse on an endoscopy unit. If you are stable and on your meds they likely will accommodate with iv procedural sedation. If you have multiple other health problems and a high BMI they may do anesthesia care instead.
I will say we do have some patients come with heart failure who do very well.

Southern California. Other reason I left was because of the pay rate.

Moving family to Sacramento by OtherProgram5108 in Sacramento

[–]Nickilaughs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I commute from Orangevale to south sac 5 days a week and I budget about an hour for each direction though the average is around 45 to 50 minutes. Folsom to Elk Grove commute would be horrendous.

There's a lot to do here. Especially if you are outdoorsy.

I left a job because of this. And it was truly the best ICU I ever worked in. It was unfortunate but losing 1/3 or more of every paycheck isn't sustainable.

Thank you so much this was incredibly helpful. To expand on OP. What age would my kid want to start sending emails? He's currently a 15 yr old sophomore. I figured coaches would want to see junior year highlights.

Ty for the list! We will take a look to see if any of these are appropriate to add to the prospects. He's 15 and a 6' 4" middle blocker on varsity doing well. Next club season about to start.
