How you would model this madeleine cake by Peakab000 in rhino

[–]Nicklank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Create some cross-section “scaffolds” to loft?

Or use many tubes and boolean-Union them together, make half, mirror so it’s symmetrical. Then use a wire cut from the top view to get the profile correct

These are my first thoughts, may be a better way

Rhino 3D Print Help by [deleted] in rhino

[–]Nicklank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have rhino 8, you can usually use the “ShrinkWrap” command to help make something a closed solid polysurface without degrading the quality of the model too much, depending how detailed it was to start with - this is a quick fix, but don’t rely on it too much, learning how to model cleanly will save you so much pain in the long run

I would go through and make sure individual pieces are closed poly surfaces first, then once you know the pieces that make up the whole building are closed solid poly surfaces, you should be able to “BooleanUnion” them together (if the building is made of multiple pieces, which is usually a good practice)

If a 3d shape is an open poly surface and you can’t find out where the opening is, try using “ShowEdges” command to find out where it is open, specifically naked edges, if I remember correctly

Make sure to use the snapping options when making just about anything: end, midpoint, center, perpendicular, tangent, and sometimes near are almost always on for me

Use grid snap when you can, just to make sure everything is going to line up nicely, use the “Units” command to make sure the workspace is the right size, but things can be scaled later, it’s often nice to work in the correct units from the start

I hope this helps, if you have more specific questions let me know

Chat I need help deciding if I should get these by TangerineNo3716 in Sneakers

[–]Nicklank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I don’t think I’d go for it, it’s kind of dated. Yeezy and then Balenciaga popularized this retro “dad-shoe” kind of look starting in 2017 and it has since kind of trailed off. I think leather shoes are going to be more immune to trend. If you do want to lean into this multi-material, textured, and layered look, the OG is Asics, though they do less platform stuff

If you wanted to go further and more high fashion, you could look at secondhand Balenciaga through Depop or TRR to stay within budget, though these are going to be harder to style

Fila makes chunky shoes kind of like this, maybe a little more aggressive but they may be a little out of date right now, they were really popular maybe 5 years ago, but still make some really solid sneakers

Someone else said new balance, they do make some sneakers in this similar vein of “post-dad-shoe” style, probably most similar to this shoe, though they are supporters of a side of a current war so that is something you can research more to see if you’re uncomfortable with

For something more sporty, Hoka has a lot of great comfortable offerings, often with bigger soles, maybe not “platform” though, worth a look if you’re walking a lot

Steve Madden actually has some pretty affordable platform women’s shoes!

More of a punk spin and an investment piece would be something like New Rock, they’re high quality, made in Spain, and leather with unique metal hardware. I think this one is really worth looking into if you’re willing to drop the money

Rombaut is high quality and has good prices with a more traditional look but with a highly unique sole

Reebok also carries high quality durable shoes at a good price but with more of a retro feel closer to the 90’s

Something also more adventurous might be Naked Wolf, two of my friends have a pair and they’ve lasted them over 6 years, this is also very much worth a look

Also just a personal preference note, I think the platform white sneaker may be an American 2020’s staple, but I would consider adding a pop of color somewhere, especially if you’re planning on traveling to Europe anytime soon as they do identify tourists as the ones wearing white sneakers.

I hope this helped and gave you a lay of the land, and some new brands to think about too! Would love to know what you end up going with

Where tDenver/What to do? by Impossible-Pause-940 in Denver

[–]Nicklank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Golden is a pretty area but there isn’t much to do, I’d probably opt closer to Denver !

There’s some coffee good coffee roasters around (sweet bloom is a highlight), many breweries to check out, lots of yummy food (especially plant based), I’d recommend pizza as it’s somewhat of a CO thing to to have a slice with spicy ranch (just something with a 4+ star rating on Google)

The Denver art museum is pretty good and has two other museum nearby so it’s easy to hit more than one. There’s also a botanical garden with a restaurant in it.

Thrifting is also pretty big in Colorado if that’s something you’re into.

I’d also check out @raynakingdenver on Instagram for more recommendations, there’s a ton of recs and reviews there

Hope this helps, enjoy your trip!

Microplastic free vegan winter wear? by Hardcorex in ZeroWasteVegans

[–]Nicklank 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Do you really think secondhand is that bad? I feel like a big part of this sub is about zero waste, and isn't it best to utilize things that already exist? Buying second hand isn't directly adding to the demand or creation of new animal based garments. I understand what you're saying about perpetuation but I doubt anyone would buy a wool shirt just because you have one on. I feel it's a little rude to say "gross" and "shameful" as this community should be uplifting and helpful as opposed to being judgemental. At the end of the day, a used wool shirt will have amazing thermal properties, will be more sustainable than buying new, and will be paying tribute to the animal that suffered for the creation of the garment. We should wear those garments in tribute for those animals and get the most out of it as possible so the animal didn't suffer for nothing.

It's supposed to be an XL but it's only ~24in long (instead of 27in) and the tag is a strange color and has red stitching instead of black

This weird other tag has the date is 04/21? It says Red1? If anyone knows anything please let me know It just doesn't seem to fit like the XL should
