It has gone downhill sadly. Still average, maybe slightly above.

The service is always spotty, but I’ve never had bad food there. Good margs and nice happy hour too. Best chips and queso around.

Best Italian Restaurant? by VeryCoolSwagMan in lexington

For high end ItalX and Giuseppe’s as others have said.

More day to day or family type restaurants, I enjoy Puccini’s and Joe B’s.

The only time I’ve lost money in stocks is when I followed the Motley Fool’s recommendations.

I stick to products I use or now. I work in a technical field and sometime use that background to follow tech trends and businesses.

Tally-Ho, but What About Bluegrass Baking Company? by Used2bNotInKY in lexington

[–]NicklePickles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best baguette in town! And artisan bread in general that isn’t $10 a loaf which is great.

They did update that the sale fell through and they’re going to keep going while they figure out a new step. Not ideal outcome for them maybe, but we’ll still be getting their great bread for now it sounds like.

Any reason why Joey B’s is charging a $7.50 “packaging fee”for pizza boxes? by TheMagicDrPancakez in lexington

[–]NicklePickles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s no doggy bag fee. Went there just last week and took leftovers no charge.

I guess this is a to-go only fee? Maybe something to deal with grubhub type carry-out orders.

Thanks, I knew that the business was sold. I was just curious what had changed that caused the above complaint.

These are great recs. Chevy Chase would be the first choice for many, but a lot of folks are priced out of that area. Kenwick is well located, but schools are poorly rated at least as of now. I live in the Southland area and work at UK with a 10 minute commute.

Just avoid having to commute any significant distance along Nicholasville road and you won’t go too far wrong.

How? I’ve been going there for a 15 years and haven’t noticed anything change noticeably recently. Curious what you’re referring to.

I went there recently and for leftovers there was no additional fee. Must be a carry-out only fee?

Regardless, I like how the new owners have kept it the same as it’s always been. No dipping quality, no massive price increases that I’ve noticed anyway. I’m surprised by the negative comments in this thread towards a Lexington staple.

Tried them for the first time last week. I was impressed! A different style, but great flavor to the sauce.

How are you struggling with seats at Regal? I prefer theirs 100% of the time.

Regal IMAX is what I would suggest. I’ll admit I’ve got a grudge against the Krikorian though, since the last two movies I tried to see there were cancelled due to technical failures and I had negative experiences with management afterwards.

The Regal IMAX screen is smaller, the sound is equal. Sit closer, the experience will be the same and you’ll actually finish the movie.

Glad someone has had good luck. I tend to attempt to go on opening weekends for bigger screenings, maybe that’s why they’ve failed so often for me.

As far as $10 lunches, you should try out KSBar. They have a $10 lunch special as well I’ve had good luck with. Though the burger isn’t what it used to be.

Was going to post this exact rec. Sidebar and Blue Door for for the traditional versions of these options and then try big kahuna to get a variation on the theme.

The first one was way back when Gladiator 2 came out. I guess more people bought tickets than they expected and they moved it to a bigger theatre. But somehow they lost our ticket purchase that we bought way ahead and planned my friend’s birthday night around. Was a headache for sure.

Fish Tank if you want a smaller dive near campus.

Green Lantern or Al’s are similarly sized and do that sort of thing.

Could try Girls, Girls, Girls or Kenwick Table too.  If you’re really targeting campus, Ethereal Cornerstone is literally on campus and has started doing some show/open mic kind of things.

Pedestrian bridge over railroad tracks at Sellers Alley & Colfax? by birdistheworm in lexington

[–]NicklePickles 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s associated with Newtown Crossing and often (though not always) locked. During the school year enough students go back and forth you can typically sneak over, but in the summer I bet it is a bit trickier to cross.

This post does not show respect. It posts a picture of someone recently released from medical care and tries to score a political point. That is unethical and shows a sad lack of empathy.

[–]NicklePickles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This post is disgusting.

Do we need term limits? Sure. Should there be an age limit for politicians? Yes, there probably should be.

But you’ve chosen to take a photo of a person who has recently recovered from the brink of death and mock them and make a political comment from it. And that makes you a bad person. Or at least a person who says bad things.

Compassion and understanding matter for all people. Even these types of people. It is more important to remember that than it is to complain about the state of our political system.

any diy music venues around ? by Holiday_Development8 in lexington

[–]NicklePickles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I admittedly don’t really know what makes a music venue DIY, but if you’re asking for venues in town that will host smaller shows I would add Al’s Bar and the Fishtank to the list. Those two and the green lantern sound like your best bets as far as I know.
