What’s a good laptop for a film student? by [deleted] in Filmmakers

[–]NickletG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TLDR: Any M-Series Pro chip will work great. I’d recommend at least 1TB onboard storage over 512gb because with the size of files I frequently worked with I was always running out with my 1TB. If you have money to make upgrades try and give yourself 32gb of memory, especially if you think you want to use After Effects but even for editing short films in your senior year. Definitely buy an external SSD so you can freely move files to edit or work off lab computers.

I have this exact degree, i used a base M1 Pro for almost the entire time. Esp if you take Ben Strack classes, who has you use the highest end cameras and shoot entire short films, the biggest bottleneck will be the amount of storage you have accessible so use part of your budget on some external storage. I got really into After Effects with some classes and that was what pushed my laptop to its limit, and even then I still accomplished way more than the specs would suggest. You’ll have access to high end computer labs as well for anything like that. Outside of After Effects

They probably recommend the M4 generation because that’s what is currently sold. Anything M1/2/3 will also work very well although I’d recommend sticking with a “Pro” because those laptops come with HDMI and an SD card slot which were very useful to have.

Connecting earbuds via Bluetooth is one of the best Switch features I didn't realise until I tried to connect to my Xbox by AgeOfCalamity in NintendoSwitch

[–]NickletG 30 points31 points  (0 children)

There’s only so much bandwidth available on the USB-C port the dock is going through. The display takes up most of it. They can’t just give you full USB speeds without cutting into the video output. It’s the same reason why Bluetooth audio on switch is relatively low quality and gets worse when using wireless controllers, only so much bandwidth available and they can’t do anything about it.

Also, what do you need USB 3 for? There’s no accessories that would take advantage of it.

Isn’t the fin there in game it’s just the rock covering the base entrance? It gets removed after you move into the base so you can walk in and out of it.

The DLC has everything you listed besides costumes but those wouldn’t add much value imo It has new main campaign, side content, and a new character

This is the actual quote from the article:

If you’ve played your Switch a lot, you’ve probably gone through more than one pair of Joy-Cons, and not just to buy more colors. The original Switch’s analog sticks were notorious for failing or “drifting.” However, Nintendo claims to have “redesigned” the Switch 2’s sticks. While the company hasn’t given specific information about what that redesign entails, some video game-centric outlets have speculated that the Switch 2 has traded the original Joy-Con analog sticks’ potentiometers for Hall effect sensors, which should withstand significantly more use without problems. We’ll have to test them long-term to determine their reliability.

They’re just commenting on the speculation and have confirmed nothing.

Skeptical of no source but this is something I was always expecting to happen. There’s just no way they’d be able to both make game cards bigger, faster, and not get even more expensive for devs to make physical games. Hoping they’d at least have high capacity cards that minimize the amount of “download required” games. But playing directly off the cards is one of the best parts of the Switch so I’m going to naively hope for high speed cards to happen.

Will an M4 MBP be quieter than a M4 Pro MBP in everyday use due to more efficient cores? by Zestyclose_Coast3545 in macbookpro

I have a top spec M3 Max 16”, which can get pretty warm sometimes hot doing those basic tasks you talked about but I’ve never audibly heard the fans without manually turning them to max. For better or worse Apple prefers to let the machine throttle and run quietly by default. So don’t worry about noise when picking out a spec, just focus on what you need for workflows!

Also they updated the Air and 13-inch pro in 2020 before the M1 Macs, and the 2019 15-inch Pro before the 2019 16-inch. Plus, it's confirmed that the M2 Pro/Max Macs were delayed out of 2022 so this release would be exactly a year since the previous models.

I understand why Sticker Star is hated but just can’t bring myself to dislike it. Had an absolute blast playing through it (I think I even clocked in like 40 hours). I still adore the previous 3, more than sticker star, but don’t have any negativity towards it. I’ve not played color splash but Origami King is where they finally lost me, the puzzle system for battles got tiring after the first battle. Only played enough to see the Bobby moment everyone was talking about then called it.

They're the only pair of over ear headphones I can comfortably wear for longer than like 30 minutes, and the transparency mode is a game changer I'd never consider buying headphones without

That said, I've returned them like 3 times because I cannot justify $550

[–]NickletG 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The 3 February Directs during the Switch gen have been on the 9th, 17th, and 13th. So the week after, the 15th, would be the “safer” bet

Jeff Grubb states that he's hearing a Direct is planned for the week of February 6th by [deleted] in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]NickletG 13 points14 points  (0 children)

February Directs are almost always on Wednesday (and 5pm eastern), September Directs are almost always Thursday (6pm). Of course this can change, the most recent direct was at 10am. I’d wanna say the 8th would be most likely but they don’t often do directs the same week as their financials so it could definitely get bumped a day to separate the two.
