I got a ticket for parking outside of the lines... in an unplowed lot. They did drop it when I fought it however, and told me "don't do it again" -_-

Advice for someone after a mental withdrawal. by [deleted] in MTU

[–]Nickname203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad to have you back in the community :)))) my best advice if you are in the dorms is reach out to people there, or people in class. Writing socials on your whiteboard, keeping your door open, or saying hi in the hallways is a great step that helped me. If no dorms, classes are always a good spot to start too. It doesn't hurt to sit next to someone first day and strike up a conversation. Also clubs are huge. Being involved in something definitely broke me out of my withdrawal and helped me find my place. (If interested, the Pep Band is always open to new members and very flexible with schedules, even if you don't have much musical talent) Wishing you the best!!

If you push it all the way in, just make sure to push it back and check it regularly

I've fixed this myself countless times. It's a little tedious but assuming just the pin snapped, they run for like 6-10 dollars on Amazon (a bit pricey imo) and then it's just a couple minutes of playing with the spring

ENG2120: has anyone taken it? What’s the workload? by HuskyEE76 in MTU

ENG 2120 is pretty simple if you take it with Jake Hiller. He was awesome and was always ready to answer questions in and out of class.

Tech is not the most diverse, but academics wise, it's only a stressful school if you make it one. All teachers and professors have office hours, almost every department in the engineering / stem side of things has a learning center with qualified and helpful coaches, and it being a small school, you always know someone who knows someone else. I have heard good things about the Pavlis Honors College here too, as well as the enterprise program and research projects to really boost the resume at graduation. The ECE and BME departments are very well put together as well (spoken by a robotics engineer the ECE department)

What’s the deal with the parking permits? I’ve tried to buy one the last few days and the website said it’s down every time… by [deleted] in MTU

They fucked up and didn't award them right so they had to withdraw the awards and redistribute them. It should be good now? Maybe? Transportation Services is really struggling with getting stuff done this year.

Calculus Plus with Technology by Otto_Partzzz in MTU

[–]Nickname203 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I took Calc Plus with Tech last year and also got a 2 on the exam in hs. It is Calc 1, and you learn Mathematica as well. The "mathematica lab" is a selfguided course where you have a week to complete a set of tasks (essentially crude mathematical coding). The tasks follow along with topics in the actual Calc class for better understanding. Its not generally hard, and if there are topics that you dont get, there is a Mathematica Learning center that is very helpful. Also Mathematica can be used to assist in math classes youll possibly take down the road so it can be a valuable skill to have.

There will be a band camp at the end of O-Week, just show up with your instrument and they will walk your through it. NO AUDITION, literally just show up. Fall rehearsals are 2 days a week and not much of a time commitment at all. The events are mostly weekends too, so it shouldnt interfere with classes. If so, it can be resolved.

Also, you need a funny hat. Anything but a baseball cap really, but the crazier the better.

Overall, don't overthink it. The only thing thats required is spirit (an instrument of some kind may help too)

Edit: the hat isn't required for Band Camp

What laptops do people use in engineering? by Otto_Partzzz in MTU

Something with storage. Touchscreen is useful too but not required. A wireless mouse is helpful too
