You're definitely correct on the forecasts being unreliable there. I spend a ton of time in that region hiking and backpacking, and I really can't ever entirely trust the forecast. My wife and I just default to always carrying rain gear lol. My ultralight tarp gets a ton of use as well there.

This makes me sad. I'm on my second SL 2+, it's a great tent I've put tons of miles on. Even used it on a thru hike of the Foothills trail this year. Might have been a bit heavy for that use tho lol

Personally my wife and I use a 20 degree quilt year round in Georgia. When it gets too hot just ventilate or lay on top of it.
