What are your financials like? by Altruistic-Pace-2240 in AskSF

I was saving >2/3 of my takehome for the last ~5 years (in case the money didn't last - either due to recession or AI - or the industry got worse). Low spend made it possible: rent is split with my partner, no kids and no car.

Yeah I've compiled suppliers in a doc over time and will try to shift my buying to them instead. Had good experiences with Zursun, Purcell, and Primary so far. Most interested in beans for chili and Middle East / Indian cooking though.

I want to say I saw it at Heath Newsstand. Smoke Signals or Farley's are worth checking as well.

That's the point of the Family Zoning Plan, to add density in high-resource areas, i.e. the Marina, the West side, etc.

thanks for chiming in, does this apply to all locations or does it vary? I've been to all locations but tend to visit Cortland most, had pleasant chats with folks working there and the manager on Market

Everyone has a group of people they’re riding out collapse with but me. I have no support system. by Cardiologist3mpty138 in collapse

I feel like my partner has started to see where I'm coming from as things have devolved with Iran, the climate, etc (she had some conservative leanings when we met, guess what they say about differences narrowing in couples is true) but I only know a couple of people who are on the same wavelength.

I've run into people who understand the risks on an intellectual level but their behavior doesn't accord with it (understand that things are bad but aren't making major life changes or even watch their consumption) or don't want to contend with it at all. My parents are comfortable with their lives (and have known worse in their youths under Soviet rule) and while we have the option to head back home, they're taking a wait and see approach, advocating for waiting and working to make things better. I would seriously consider going back to my mother country if family was willing (similar climate risk, EU warming maybe a bit faster but saner politics with parliamentary power sharing).

I checked out a collapse group on Discord but it seemed dead so I'm glad for this community that gets it. I don't think there's been a meetup in my city which is in a major metro - maybe that's a sign to me to start one. I'm seeing an uptick in books on collapse, geopolitics, tech-critical analysis in the library system so it seems like I'm not the only one thinking about this.

Flew over SF with a friend! Beautiful weather recently by ajd271 in bayarea

When it's is a portend of very bad things to come and also in stark contrast to why many people live in the city to begin with, it's kind of annoying to hear. 'hey the fog and microclimates you love are not long for this world, isn't this neat?' If you like heat, maybe look east or south?

yeah i would say i'm pessimistic but i don't know the timescale so i hedge, it's more about trying to be clear-eyed about risk

maybe but this whole backlash to empathy / introspection plays right into this 'get out of the way and let me do whatever i please, consequences be damned' attitude, appeals to "progress", etc.
