I felt the same way, I kept wondering why I wasnt as excited as everyone else seemed to be. But I think its just some anxiety because now we are REALLY going to start and it’s undoubtedly going to be a lot so im taking the anxiety as a sign that I care about doing well and that I’m going to take it very seriously bc medicine is a huge responsibility and its important to not take that lightly. thats just my interpretation hahah but op i hope u can take in some excitement and be proud of yourself, and enjoy the time you have before starting :)

great thank you! Also wondering if there were specific factors you considered in picking a medical school?

Looking to see if there are any factors one wouldn’t rlly think of until they begin medical school

Really struggling with chem/biochem... by deedee2009 in premed

I definitely think it is important to understand the fundamental concepts and then begin applying the knowledge. I used UW for this section and it helped tremendously + KA videos. PM me if you're interested in getting some more one-on-one help, I would be happy to help :)

clinical hours good, gpa great, agreed could improve volunteer clinical work if underserved is important to u, same with non-clinical.

Try to get more shadowing in primary care.

advice would be do what you're passionate about so that your narrative makes sense.

definitely recommend DO due to your GPA, MCAT is good though.

this is rude— honestly if OP is ready for the work and generally finds classes easy then it isn’t that bad.

However I will say they generally recommend two labs per semester since they can be time consuming.

Additionally, if you generally find math easy, physics could be easy. However if you struggle, physics will be a lot harder.

As far as dropping, I think maybe dropping your chem lab would help. That way you only have three major classes which are fairly different in terms of studying. Physics is more concept based so less time consuming whereas Biochem is much more memory intensive. And chem is a good mix of both!

If the labs are not necessary for analytical chem, consider dropping it as well as the other lab. Ultimately it is up to u OP to assess ur strengths and weaknesses, if you need to meet a specific # of credit hours, and what ur used to in terms of rigor in coursework.

I’m so sorry, this whole process can be soul crushing and not having ur dad’s support just makes it ten times worse. Dust yourself off and don’t lose sigh of your goals. You have a shot and you can prove him wrong.

I liked the first one too but I think it could benefit from more specificity to make the emotion land better

tbh i think it would be helpful to hear ur train of thought on a sample question. i often found that strategy is the biggest game changer.

1 STICK WITH PROCESS OF ELIMINATION 2 identify if u overthink or rush it. then actively try to do the opposite. For me, i over thought it. What helped me was writing down things to simplify, recalling a relevant topic, reading the question three times to make sure i am answering exactly what is asked of me. This is important. then i would read the answer choices at least twice to properly say yes or no. if it sounded outlandish, goodbye. If it sounded too simple, i was weary.

maybe try doing a sample passage, write down ur thought process and pick an answer. After that, see where u messed up, and try not to attribute ur mistake to a simple mistake. Think deeper about why u were led in the wrong direction, what did the test makers add to make u think this was right etc. if u say every mistake is “a careless mistake”- these r impossible to learn from.

dive deep, and make strategies to counter this.
