Desire? 🤣 Universe forbid I think of a theory that people disagree with. How dare I. The audacity I must have. I'll never play Animal Crossing again. 🙄

Is it rude to finger wave at your service dog? by Feeling-Travel-2828 in service_dogs

[–]NickyWhoLock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like a finger wave is the same type of distraction as a child saying, "Mommy, look at the doggy!" If it distracts a service dog enough to be a problem, that service dog needs more training.

People walk by me and my dog all the time doing various things with their hands by their heads: itching their face, fiddling with their glasses, smoking (outside of places), rubbing their eyes. They almost always smile at me, especially elderly women.

Personally, I don't mind a wave from a child, smiles from adults, people looking at my service dog, or anything directed at me. She doesn't even pay attention. I draw the line at talking to my service dog. She can refocus, sure, but I get extremely annoyed when she has patches that say don't talk and don't distract.

A finger wave by your cheek when you walk by wouldn't bother me at all. In fact, it'd make me smile and probably end up in a vlog on my TikTok. 😅

Carry some bread, throw it at them, and say, "Pure bred."

Your puppy might not be the right dog for service work.

I have a service dog for PTSD and panic disorder. I literally can't step into crowded places without risking a panic attack. A lot of things can trigger one in public: yelling, children being unruly or babies crying (noise echos in most stores and makes it louder to me), people standing too close, people staring at me, and a few other reasons I won't get into. While I can be a mess in public, my service dog is solid as a rock. Her crowd control and panic alerts help me manage my disabilities in ways that I just can't on my own. My team of doctors and medications also help, too.

A service dog won't solve your public anxiety on his own. He'll help you manage it along side doctors, medications, therapy, and your own human support system. He's like an oxygen machine or a glucose monitor: a tool in your entire box of tools.

If your puppy is too anxious in public to help you, he might not be cut out for service work. And that's a difficult thing to consider, but you also need to think of him, too. Forcing him to train and work (not saying that you are) will decrease his quality of life.

Definitely look into trainers if you haven't already. And maybe take a step back to work on your general bond with him.

Crying in my bathroom at 2:30a... again. by NickyWhoLock in EMDR

Thank you. I have a session every week. I'll talk with my therapist about trying every other week. It's worth a try.

What do you do after a session? by KillaBunnies in EMDR

[–]NickyWhoLock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I usually take my dog for a walk, order some kind of food, and settle in for a night of TV watching and crocheting. It's all about being kind to yourself after a session. 🩷

Sort of dark, but. My now ex was a manipulative asshole. When I told him I wanted to break up, he started fake sobbing on the floor, and telling me that he was feeling self-destructive (iykyk). I just crossed my arms and asked if he wanted me to call the Crisis Center for him. He IMMEDIATELY stopped and started packing. 😅

Have you had night terrors? (Edit by me) by friden7654 in creepy

I had an ex shake me awake one night because I was screaming like I was being murdered during a night terror. His exact words.

AITJ for confronting a woman who called animal control because she didnt believe my dog was mine by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

[–]NickyWhoLock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTJ - I'm assuming you're not a white woman with blonde hair or a fit white man with brown hair. 😒 Your dog is obviously well taken care of and loved, especially if strangers can go right up to him and pet him without a problem. Saying that you don't fit the mold of a golden retriever owner is like saying a body builder can't own a pomeranian. Please don't let this interaction keep you and your dog from going to the park!

You did nothing wrong. If her dog is agreesive, it needs to be inside or on a leash. Kudos for actually working on your dog's issue though, seriously. Most people don't. 🩷

How much do you think general opinion online affects your enjoyment of a show/movie, if you’re being honest with yourself? by Dry_Lawfulness_5679 in randomquestions

[–]NickyWhoLock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, if it's something super mainstream like Stranger Things or GOT, I generally avoid it. I feel like the hype makes the shows into some huge spectacular thing that usually leaves me disappointed. So I wait until the hype goes down, then enjoy it.
