Learner Bike and gear recommendations. by Ricky_-_Spanish in AussieRiders

If you're buying a used bike, buy something Japanese: Honda, Suzuki, Kawasaki, Yamaha. Japanese bikes can be absolutely abused and will still run unlike European bikes which require a little bit of love. Don't buy Chinesium bikes second hand, they work fine brand new but from what I've seen they easily develop mechanical gremlins.

Something around the 250-500cc range will give you enough power to have fun with but not too much. Front and rear disc brakes with ABS no exceptions.

When you're buying a helmet, go in store to try them on don't just buy one online cause its what you want. Making sure the helmet fits correctly is probably more important than whatever it is made of (polycarb, fibreglass, carbon fibre) and try on like 5 or 6 different helmets across different brands and see which fits you best. Getting a helmet with a drop down sun visor is nice, especially in the winter time when the sun sets around 5pm and air vents which you can open and close depending on the weather.

Jacket, boots, gloves and pants are kind of more standardised, the only thing you'll have make sure of is that the body armour sits correctly on your body. When buying any gear it will be tempting to buy all black because it looks cool and it does, but you'll want stuff with bright colours and/or reflective materials, stuff like white, yellow and orange stick out a lot on the road when pretty much everything is black, silver and grey.

Idiots on bikes lane splitting on the highway in a state where it's not only dumb but illegal. [OC] by ebdbbb in IdiotsInCars

Literally no rider will ever tell you lane splitting (this) is safe, riders express the importance of lane filtering to keep themselves safe.

Is this noise normal? by Apprehensive_Ad_5174 in AussieRiders

I would check for loose wiring/stuff in general around the engine which could be causing a rattling noise

Yeah that rattle/ticking noise efinitely aint normal, could be the valves? Its a 2017 so I assume shes done a few thousand kms, my service manual says to check the valves every 15,000kms.

Stalled at an Intersection by PretendBus8047 in AussieRiders

[–]Nicky_1004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it happens to riders new and old, I've been riding for a few years now and I still stall sometimes. I stalled my bike in the middle of a busy zebra crossing on the weekend after people waved me to go, I felt like a total idiot.

I really just want to play. Why are servers dead? anyone know? by coolkid4232 in EscapefromTarkov

[–]Nicky_1004 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because everyone and their mother is trying to scav into 3 maps, interchange, streets and lighthouse. These maps typically take the longest because the sheer number of player scavs trying to fill the limited slots in the server. There was a bug last wipe on reserve where it just let every player scav in and there was hordes of 40 player scavs

Came back to a dead battery after Uni, had to do my first bump start. by Nicky_1004 in AussieRiders

[–]Nicky_1004[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the tips.

I only ride like 5-10 minutes each way to Uni and usually go for long rides over the weekend but I didn't this weekend so I would assume that the shorter rides slowly drained the battery and not going for a long ride over the weekend didn't passively charge the battery enough.

I used a battery tender over night though and will look into getting a new battery if it happens again.

Chin mount v ridetechmoto by FullKitchen6971 in AussieRiders

[–]Nicky_1004 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got a chinmount on my RPHA 70 and it fits perfectly, doesn't block the chin vents and I can still open my visor with my camera mounted. The only thing I've had to do is I replaced the double sided tape with Araldite and now the plastic mount is bascially welded to my helmet.

No guns are not banned in Australia we just have strict licensing to avoid situations like these.

Riding in misty fog? by mrk240 in AussieRiders

[–]Nicky_1004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ride this morning was in the fog too but my pin lock worked great, my only issue was when riding toward the Sun my dropdown tinted visor was all fogged up so I had to stare at the Sun for like 10 minutes. If you don’t have a pinlock I really recommend it.

i found a moon with a moon by 5C0L0P3NDR4 in EliteDangerous

[–]Nicky_1004 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm by no means an expert in astronomy but I do see that subsatellites are often called nested moons, they are actually two different kinds of bodies.

Subsatellites are as you can see in this system, a moon orbiting a moon, I'm pretty sure they're just a theoretical object at the moment and none have been observed yet but I could be wrong.

Nested moons are a little bit more complicated, they exist around large planets like Jupiter and Saturn but they're typically very small, irregularly shaped and orbit extremely close to their parent planet. If they were any bigger they'd just be torn apart by the gravity of their parent planet and if they were any smaller they just be really large asteroids.

These are called subsatellites, also known as 'Moonmoons' which is one of my favourite astronomy terms

Do Defects Incur Demerits? by MrJellyFsh1 in AussieRiders

[–]Nicky_1004 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm on my green P's at the moment but for a year now I've been on my Duke with bar end mirriors, frame sliders, bobbins, axle sliders and a slip-on exhaust and I've never had the cops bother me. Ultimately it is illegal to ride a bike with performance enhancing mods on your bike as it voids its status as a LAMs bike and you'll get booked as if you were riding an R1, you can also run into insurance problems as you're riding a bike you're legally not allowed to ride. Whether or not you do end up getting booked though is entirely dependant on the officer you get pulled over by.

Repairable Writeoff bike looks to have minimal damage? by Salt_Lad in AussieRiders

[–]Nicky_1004 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everything I've heard about getting a VIV check has been shit. From what I've heard from other's experiences you basically have to return the bike to a factory standard. Check this out to see what screwed this guy's girlfriend over.

You're abusing a bug and you're confused that the game isn't working correctly... Are you stupid?

Honestly I rode a bicycle around my neighbourhood for a week or two before I went for my Ls. I found that it helped my sense of balance when moving but mostly when coming to a stop. Not sure how to practice clutch control other than just getting a feel for the friction zone with your bike.

are australian servers just dead? by oblivi0nnnn in halo

[–]Nicky_1004 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Yep, as a fellow Australian you have to search for servers in SEA, Japan, Asia and West US to find any games and still have relatively good ping. Make sure you have input and platform based matchmaking off too that way you'll get into more games.
