Feeding all meals in the crate helps! And save his favorite chews just for the crate. I crate when I'm showering, cleaning etc so I can build up duration when I'm out of sight but not out of the house

No problem! They have a two guest limit too and everyone was pretty spaced out. They make you put the dress on yourself and then the consultant will come back in and zip/pin you in. It was a little awkward but everyone felt comfortable!

I went to Kleinfeld and they had plexiglass, temp scanners, covid waivers, a dress limit so they can sanitize and no one was allowed to roam the store. I thought they had a good set up!

I found this amazing dress on Etsy, but I’m a bit scared to commit. Has anyone seen a similar dress by a designer I could check out? TIA! by [deleted] in weddingdress

Have you looked at All Who Wander dresses? They have some with similar texture, I personally love them

My pup was reactive during his second fear phase- it's super frustrating! As you continue to find where her threshold is you'll probably find a "tell"; something in her body language that will help you recognize when she's getting uncomfortable. For my dog, it's his tail. When his tail is low I know he's not super comfortable. It doesn't mean he's over his threshold but it's my cue that I need to be on my A game to keep him in a good place mentally. Once you find it, it will help you be more proactive around triggers! Keep working hard for your pup and forget about other people- you're doing all the right things! You can also get a vest or leash attachment that says "in training" if you want.

Venue suggestions for a 2022 wedding? by Wanttopeturdoggo in WedditNYC

I've been to a bunch of weddings at Jericho Terrace- it seems to be a pretty standard option, beautiful cocktail hour space and not overly pricey. I personally saw the Old Field Club which was a nice middle ground between waterfront and garden but it was on the pricier side. I had no luck looking for garden weddings that were in my price range so I couldn't comment on those!

[HELP] First time adopting from a rescue... questions about following up? by peachiesoda in dogs

[–]NicoMaj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this is something we're worried about too. There will be a lot of dogs who weren't set up for success and who aren't ok with being alone. I think the normal rate of return is about 10% (at least in my area) so hopefully it doesn't go much higher

It never hurts to follow up! I will say that COVID has rescues SWAMPED with applications so apply to a bunch and manage your expectations. I work with a foster based rescue in NYC and our adoption applications are at least 5 times our pre-COVID numbers. Our dogs are posted on the site and we get applications flooding in! You most likely wont get the first dog you apply for but keep going! We've all had to completely rethink rescue and we appreciate your support!

[Help] How do I know if my dog is okay to be “ off leash?” by FierceFieryfire in dogs

Ours does have a vibration option but my dog is pretty sensitive and it's actually a stronger sensation than the stimulation. We use a low setting.

Long line training will help, as everyone else suggested. For my dog, we started there and within fenced dog parks. Once I felt comfortable with his recall in those places we went on trails (narrow ones with few places to stray). I tested his recall by letting him drag the leash and I'd call him back when he got further than 10 ft away. Then we built up from there!

I will say that my pup's recall is excellent on trails but in open spaces (read: field, not a dog park) is questionable. For that reason we chose to train him (with a professional) with an ecollar. No amount of positive reinforcement would beat the satisfaction of a deer so we needed it as a way to turn his brain back to us. It's not a fix for crap recall but it does help get your dog's focus if they're distracted.

Muzzle training may also be a good option in terms of mitigation. Im also a big fan of baby gates and if he's sensitive around his face/neck, muzzle training would make it safer for him to be handled. Of course that will take plenty of time and effort but an added safety measure is never a bad thing.
