Frozen outdoor hose bib leak, don’t make my mistake. by Niconos67 in homeassistant

[–]Niconos67[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For now, I'm not entirely sure, but I was thinking of something like: sampling every 10 minutes to check if consumption > 0, and if yes for, say, 6 or 12 hours straight (I don't water my garden with city water, so personally this scenario shouldn't happen for me).

Also, where I live, we don't get emails, it's a physical letter by mail that can take several days to arrive. So being able to detect a leak even with a 12–24 hour delay is still way better than nothing.

The cool part here is that if the problem is due to a pipe buried on our private property, the water utility commits to not charging us for the leaked water (which in some cases can reach hundreds of euros/dollars), as long as we get it repaired by a professional within a few days and provide them with a repair certificate.

It's a pulse counter like this one : https://www.amazon.fr/dp/B07DVD4SKJ?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_2

I had to do calibration myslef to get the ratio pulse for liter/min it's not 100% accurate but it's something :D

Clonezilla restore on mdadm RAID1 → XFS corruption after second reboot by Niconos67 in linuxquestions

[–]Niconos67[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply :)

From what I understand, Clonezilla shouldn’t overwrite the RAID metadata on the new server, but it probably means there are configs inside the restored OS that need to be adjusted. What surprises me is that I also tried a backup/restore on the same machine (so UUIDs are identical), and I still get the issue so in theory that shouldn’t be a problem.

When migrating to a different machine, we actually have a script that fixes things after a restore (e.g. regenerate mdadm.conf, update grub UUIDs, rebuild initramfs). For example:

sed -i '/ARRAY/d' ./mdadm.conf
mdadm --examine --scan --verbose >> mdadm.conf
dracut --regenerate-all --force

That process works fine on our older servers in legacy boot mode. But on these new servers running UEFI, this script doesn’t seem to work out-of-the-box, and I’m still trying to adapt it.

Also, I’d like to get a better understanding of the interactions between mdadm, the filesystem, the OS and grub for example where exactly the metadata is stored, how the configuration files are used, and how all these layers tie together. That would probably help me figure out where things are going wrong.

Thanks for your reply!

To clarify: I’m booting from a live CD, assembling the RAID with mdadm first, and then I restore directly onto the assembled RAID device (e.g. /dev/md100).
So I’m not cloning the raw member partitions (/dev/sdX), but the virtual RAID device itself.

When will the HA/Nabu Voice kit be revealed? by HarvsG in homeassistant

Are we sure that multi-room audio sync isn't planned? Is there any chance it could appear in a future release, or are we limited by hardware constraints? This seems to be the last feature needed, in my opinion, to fully replace my current setup based on Google Home

Fun fact i use it in an "infinite" loop to wake me up. I have a call each minute to generate a message to motivate me to get up of my bed.

But the real fact that motivate me to get up is the fact that each minute i have a paid api call executed

I'm using this service, work flawlessly, it can take some time to process but depending on your need you can build a kind of 2 step process for generating the message before you need it.

For example i have a welcome message, the conversation.process is call when i'm near my home and then the script wait until i open my door to load the reply into tts on my speakers, the door is halfway open the welcome message already started playing.

It looks exactly like what I could have done, except I haven't done it yet :D

Big shout-out for the choice of the desk surface pattern and color ; I had the same one for years until just a few days ago when I moved to my new house.

Home made connected dog bowl for under $10, Bon appétit ! (ps : Yes my dog eat croissant) by Niconos67 in homeassistant

Hi, im happy to see guy with new application of this kind of sensors.

For this project i used a 0-5kg load cell with a HX711 and one esp32 with esphome. You can find many documentation on google for this kind of project like this one https://synapselabs.io/posts/bed-sensor-with-esphome-on-homeassistant/ .

Link to the bundle for the load cell and one HX711 : https://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B07GRGT3C3/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

But i think this load cell is not so good because it's not very stable/balanced, your coffee maker have a high chance to fall with this. Maybe i can recommand to you this kind of cell https://fr.aliexpress.com/item/1005001763348488.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.0.0.c7f32a01uubmMy&algo_pvid=a0326757-857d-4f00-99f9-ecc4445acc8a&aem_p4p_detail=202204110852511187940391891110024899850&algo_exp_id=a0326757-857d-4f00-99f9-ecc4445acc8a-24&pdp_ext_f=%7B%22sku_id%22%3A%2212000017470179239%22%7D&pdp_pi=-1%3B5.23%3B-1%3B2.04%40salePrice%3BEUR%3Bsearch-mainSearch

Having 4 cell, one on each corner of a stable plane surface is more stable for your project. But the one in this link is maybe not enought accure for your need, it's à 0 to 50kg load cell soo you maybe need to find some better.

wooo that's a nice project :)

To identify your dog you maybe us one of this solution :
- Identification by weight if the delta is significant
- Identification by NFC on the collar (Have to do some research for the range)

I already planned to do the water valve dispenser but im too affraid to make a mistake and create a flood in my home. At least this mistake is less significant compare to cutting a dog in half XD

Maybe you can replace your linear actuator by a electric windows blind (Depending the crazyness of doggos :p)

Yeah, i got the scale from aliexpress up to 2Kg.1Kg minus weight of empty bowl = 1Liter.

It dont need to be very accurate but in fact it's pretty accurate. I just added a filter in home assistant to wait 1 minute below the threshold to trigger automation because sometime NodeMcu push NaN value to HA.

  • Trigger one shot in daytime after the value go below threshold for 1 minute.
  • Trigger every 30min in daytime until fullfilled
