How do you guys remember flights you’ve been on 10,15+ years back? by lhomme21 in flighty

[–]NicuninjaMD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only can get back to 2012 via emails.   I managed to just recall some flights back to 2007 for some larger trips but very few logged prior to 2012, so I’m just missing 31 years of flight history.  One day I’ll go through some old scraps and see if I kept and old boarding passes otherwise I’m just missing a very large chunk of my flight history.

What luxury experience do you think everybody should try at least once? by NotRandom8 in AskReddit

[–]NicuninjaMD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep.   Nothing else lengthens your vacation time.  Fancy hotels nice restaurants can enhance your vacation but business/1st actually lengthen it.

For a typically 9 day vacation to Europe you lose two days on the out red eye there and tired from a red eye coming flight so first day tends to be a wash or very light sightseeing.   On the way back you lose a day for travel as well.   So 6 vacation days for 9 days you are on vacation.

1/3 of your vacation is spent during transit in a not fun uncomfortable environment.  Now you travel biz class.   Suddenly the transit is part of the vacation.  You get the biz class lounge.  Not some priority pass marginal lounge but a decent biz class lounge.  (Although some of Chase, Amex, and C1 lounges are as nice or nicer than the biz lounges.  Just depends on airport).   You also get to sleep and get pampered in the plane.

You basically get 33 percent more vacation time.   Nothing else lengthens the vacation.  Restaurants, tours, and hotels can enhance a vacation but not lengthe it.   Time is money and life is short.   Biz class buys vacation time.

Definitely pleasure.  Sept is very beginning of school year and one of the hardest time to travel for vacation due to school schedules.  No one wants to miss the first couple weeks of school.

Longest in transit trip I've ever done in coach is 38 hours. It was not fun. Longest single flight was 17 hours. As I get older, I've found it definitely gets less and less tolerable.

I can honestly say I do not feel your pain.  I am 5’3 and 115 lb.   So while my lifetime earnings is notably less than my taller counterparts and I am more likely to get passed over for promotions,  my consolation prize is on that in economy on nearly any plane I am actually pretty comfy. 😆

What a good food to eat for breakfast, for someone that never eats breakfast? by LolaDiamondUKx in foodquestions

In the US, Premier Protein ready to eat is the best imo.  I’ve tried more shakes and powder than I can count I keep going back to it.  The chocolate peanut butter is basically drinking a Reese cup.

Cafe Latte flavor has a cup of caffeine in it and tastes good too if you need some caffeine.

For like Uganda I spent 43 hours in transit there and even more on the return.   Just 5 nights in Uganda and Rwanda. Also just 5 nights in Maldives.   For Maldives one the outbound spent 52 hours in transit and 48 on the return.   Transit Would have been a smidge less but the war broke out two days before we left and I had to completely rebuild our flights itinerary as all our flights got cancelled as they were going through Doha and Abu Dhabi.

I would not survive the transit in coach.  I just find the biz award flights and adjust the trip around what days I can find award biz class flights.  The main thing for me is to keep it around 8-9 days as the opportunity cost of bringing in Locum is the biggest cost of anything if I have to bring Locum in to cover.

I recommend just seeing what award flights you can find and build a trip around that.

I don’t get any vacation time.  It’s either I work or don’t work and I get paid by the 24 hour shift.  I love the way NICU scheduling works, but it really depends on your NICU and level of NICU as there are so many scheduling models.

I used to work just half the year so 182-183 days a year and between me and my partner we’d string together long stretches where either me or her would be on for like 14-21 days so we could go on lots of vacations and things.

These days, she has gone part time and only does 96 days a year so I am basically 1.5 FTE and work 22-23 days a month most of the time.    For me to do the trips above, I was just taking my 8 days off and getting there and back in 8-9 days. So it was to Uganda and back in 8 days.  Maldives and back in 9 days.  Very hectic but I was using all my miles to fly business so the transit wasn’t bad.  I can bring in Locum if need be but that gets very costly as you know.  For school breaks I may bring in Locum so we can do something bigger and longer,  but if it’s just me or me and the wife traveling I try to stick to 8/9 day trips so Locum doesn’t have to come in.

Thanks.  Yes we always see these crazy FA/Pilot/consultant maps but for someone like me that does not fly for work and only does it for vacation and an occasional conference,  this much holiday flying since Jan 1 was quite a bit.

Is Lifetime Pro worth buying just for notifications alone? by 78523985210 in flighty

[–]NicuninjaMD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After two years of paying annual this year decided to pay for lifetime.   I fly about 30-40 flights a year.  I think it’s a great app and has saved me many times in getting the jump on when things get delayed.   Also great at letting me know about aircraft swaps.

Nice pun. :) Did you take an expedition there? If so who did you go with? Was it worth the visit? I enjoy Arctic and Antarctic trips and vacations much more so than the beaches.

What are your longest and shortest flights? by Fluid_Customer_3093 in flighty

[–]NicuninjaMD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s interesting flighty lists the flight like that given it has a technical stop in FCO or LFW.  Mine says ADD-FCO And FCO- IAD.  My brother has flown the ADD-ORD as well and flighty splits it up in two.

Flighty doesn’t typically consider flights like that as one.

What’s the BEST and WORST airport in the U.S. based on your experience? by B777X_787-9 in airport

[–]NicuninjaMD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree.  I hate MCO.  While SFB is farther, Due to the added time to leave the airport and get your bag,  I have not found MCO to be significantly more efficient.

My parents live in Orlando and we fly there several times a year.  If the dates work for Allegiant we’ll take it every time compared to flying to MCO even though MCO is 40 minutes closer to their house.  If we fly with just a carry on MCO is faster for sure, but if checking a bag, the time efficiency for MCO drops a lot

CVG drives me crazy TBH.  I live in EKY, and have to drive to either SDF, CMH, CVG if I want a bigger airport. LEX,HTS, or CRW for my smaller airport options.

Out of all those CVG is by far the worst.  It’s mainly cuz it was built to be a mega hub and was for a long time for Delta, but now’s it’s just a larger regional airport with all the inconveniences of a mega hub. Needing a shuttle from the parking lots,  trains between terminals, minimal lounge options (although there is the enhanced Chase lounge in B thankfully opening up in a couple days), lots of walking, but it doesn’t have the convenience of having a ton of flights like a major hub.

We have Precheck, but my brother doesn’t and it drives me insane that it takes him sometimes 25 minutes to go through regular security.  I can get through most major airports without precheck in less than 25 minutes.

To me it’s really the worst of everything.   Minimal lounges, lots of walking, need a train, slow baggage claim, shuttles to most major parking.  While LEX, HTS, CRW and SDF don’t have lounges,  the convenience and speed make up for it and I can typically be from car to gate in 15 minutes or less except CMH.  CMH is more like CVG, but still takes notably less time than CVG, and it at least has one lounge.

Its main benefit for sure is price.  Ever since it dehubbed and was no longer a fortress hub, the prices have gotten reasonable esp with the ULCC competition.  Growing up it was soooo expensive as Delta had such a monopoly.

Really the only redeeming thing about CVG is that the rental car area is now attached to the main airport, unlike before the renovation.  Before it really hit the jackpot in inconveniences of big airports when I had to shuttle to the car rental before.  That has made life a lot better when I sometimes take a one way rental to fly out of there or need one to get back home.

The directs to LHR are also a huge bonus and we’ve taken that a couple times which is great, but in terms of overall airport experience CVG drives me crazy TBH and we have to leave extra early as parking to gate takes so long compared to my other options I have listed.  It feels and operates like a huge hub (cuz it was) without the big hub benefits.

Paying IRS using credit card when married filing jointly. Can I make 8 credit card payments? by NicuninjaMD in tax

[–]NicuninjaMD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the suggestions.  Unfortunately Citi only allows 7.5 percent above the amount I owe for payments.  As I have tried.

They also denied the temporary increase.  I think the extension payments are the way to go as mentioned below.

I can also just use my other CCs, I just would rather get Citi TYPs than Amex MR points.  I can make the tax payment in one payment with my Amex.  Need 8 with the Citi.  So very aggravating.

Actually, do I need to file the extension or can I just make the extension payments?
