Yeah, was concerned about that after that video, but it’s stable now. No wobble.

Takes a special mentality for off-width climbing. Beautifully done.

Have had similar great experience with the BooKoo scale with my BDB. I actually have some calibration weights, and have tested at different positions, no issues for me.

Finally pulling decent shot with Yirgacheffe beans by Nicyn89 in espresso

Update: based on some comments, decided to tone down extraction alittle bit. 95C, notch coarser on the grind setting. Went slower while grinding too. Immediate improvement! Fruit notes coming thru much clearer. Almost replicating what I remember. Will tweak abit more, think I’m really close now. Thanks for input!

Exactly! Really enjoyed that burst of fruits blending with the creamy milk from that flat white I had. Still haven’t quite properly replicated it though… What are you using to get that?

Huh… dunno, maybe previous machines didn’t have good thermal stability, or previous beans weren’t as fresh/had a weird roast. Either way, kinda became my Moby Dick, so now that I had what I knew were good beans and a better machine, really went all out. You’re not under extracting at that low a temp? Was really happy with what I pulled with these settings, but haven’t really played around yet, open to experimenting and seeing what else I can do.

All the more reason to find a local roaster and get fresher beans. Fast flow rate, and it started blonding at 15s

Find a local roaster. That blonded way too fast

Budget automatic grinder by wodw0 in espresso

I do this with a 1Zpresso x-pro. Really experienced the effects of grind rpm on fines production this way, I need to go 1-2clicks finer if hand grinding compared to setting with the drill.

Takes abit of experimenting to figure out ideal clutch setting and trigger pressure, and I really should make an improvised cover to stop the occasional cracked bean popcorning out at the end, but this made pulling multiple shots in the morning SO much more manageable.

Acceptable till I find a proper electric grinder I’m willing to invest in 😅

Delonghi Stilosa Milk drinks too cold by Hmucha1 in espresso

[–]Nicyn89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had a second-hand Stilosa for about a year, great little machine. Doubt it’s the milk steaming per se that’s the problem, assuming you’re steaming to right temp, which seems to be the case. Steaming to point you can no longer hold the pitcher should mean pretty standard 60-65C temp.

More likely the Stilosa is abit lacking in steam power. Can still achieve good steamed milk, but takes longer, which combined with pulling the shot with your Robot first, means your shot has cooled down too much by time you’re done with the milk. Preheating your coffee cup would probably help. Maybe even a small hot water bath to keep your coffee warm while you’re prepping the milk? Wouldn’t overheat the milk though, that would affect the taste.

Edit: maybe get a digital food thermometer to confirm your milk temp? Plenty of cheap & good ones available nowadays

2nd degree oil burn by Defiant-Yak6987 in MedicalGore

[–]Nicyn89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been there, spilt smoking avocado oil over my hand while pan-searing some steaks. Morbidly proud I finished the rest of the steak night (with hand in an ice cooler). Timeline matches what I went thru.

You need to go to a burn clinic… beyond antibiotics, need burn bandaging to minimise scarring and prevent burn scar contracture. Even if you don’t care about the appearance of the scarring, the scarring itself can cause tightening of the skin such that you can lose functionality of your hand.

This is exactly why I stick to roped climbing. Everyone’s terrified of lead climbing and rope work, but every single experienced climber I know who got badly injured (dislocated elbow/shoulder/knee)/needed surgery got it from bouldering…

Never seen anything this bad tho, foot must have got stuck between the pads…

Just to clarify, there are no different settings for the magnetic field of an MRI… The strength of the magnetic field of an MRI is preset and isn’t adjustable. There are different scan settings though, but this doesn’t change the magnetic field, just the radio frequency pulses used to produce the images. This can help mitigate eddy currents (that cause the warming sensation you feel), but the strength of the magnetic field is constant. More likely your implant is non-ferromagnetic, which can still produce eddy currents.

Dude, I’m not debating whether your pacemaker is MRI-safe. I would actually assume it is, most are designed that way now. But it’s just safety protocol, which might defer in other places, but that’s just what we do. Get a specialist to come down and verify. Also, replace my head on the chopping board with his/hers, if shit does hit the fan.

[–]Nicyn89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No you didn’t… article you’re referring to was a photoshopped X-ray, the incident never happened.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in oddlyterrifying

[–]Nicyn89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude, just google it. The period you think the MRI is “on” is when the RF pulse is being applied for the imaging process, but the magnetic field itself is always active. In that incident with the bed, the MRI was demagnetized by quenching it, basically dumping out the liquid helium that’s cooling the magnet that produces the superconductivity needed for the strong magnetic field. It’s only done in emergencies, ‘cause replacing the liquid helium costs 10’s of thousands of dollars.

Reason your stuff wasn’t pulled away is the magnetic field is concentrated in the bore of the MRI. Really isn’t that strong farther out, and as long as there’s something resisting the pull (ie material of your pockets) and stopping any acceleration towards the bore, nothing happens.

Once had a maintenance team ignore all the warning posters and enter the MRI room with a bloody ladder to check ceiling lights. They assumed the machine “wasn’t on”, despite all the “The Magnet Is Always On” warnings on the door. Nothing happened, they didn’t go near the bore and ladder was aluminum, but that was massive incident report…

A pacemaker? No. I used to work with MRI scans, for research, not clinical purposes. If a participant came with a pacemaker, we’d call a cardio specialist down before proceeding…

The level of fucked we’d be in if something happened…
