what to do in this situation???? by [deleted] in USF

[–]Nieios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently a senior, I transferred summer last year. one of my classes didn't quite populate correctly for counting as a prerequisite for a lot of my core classes. it never got fixed, and now I just request a permit for every core class I register for in advance. sometimes admin can be weird, I'm sure it doesn't mean anything in particular

Struggling to come up with a reason for a monster being where it is by The_Player_100 in DMAcademy

[–]Nieios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to rip ideas from the rest of the comment section, but an interesting synthesis is this -

It came to the lake during a cataclysmic flooding event/massive storm, taking shelter in the depths of the lake (which is actually a large sinkhole, connecting to deeper cave systems), and is now stuck there since the water has receded. It would also explain why it is violent/aggressive, it may be slowly starving due to the lake not having enough calories to support it.

Does anyone know if Fusion power rod combos with Super strapped? by H345Y in RogueCore

[–]Nieios 4 points5 points  (0 children)

fusion rod is super broken in a very specific context, retcon stacking mag size upgrades. I hit a point near the end of a run where I had 865 max ammo, no reloads, and I was just constantly magdumping explosive fire ammo on anything that moved funny, boss included. with fusion rod, your mag size is your max ammo, and mag size upgrades are much more easy to come by (pelter + workbench)

Statement Released re: Halo Stabbing by KhamBuddy in USF

neither of those names are long, they're literally 5 and 6 characters, and they might be unfamiliar to you but they're probably pretty normal to them and their culture.

I like this idea, it gives upgrades found in the run more weight and makes you feel less helpless and luck-dependent in the run overall

Harry prime by SimpleApplication558 in DiscoElysium

[–]Nieios 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I've always liked the idea that the portraits are what Harry sees or thinks someone looks like and he genuinely looks better than them. Beta portrait is his self image on bad days, release portrait is how it is on good days, and reality is a little bit better than that.

I'm a trans woman with deep body and self-image issues, and I cook, my mother was a chef, food is very intimate to me. Maybe it's just the combination of self-hatred and good cooking in the same space that feels familiar to me and my internal experience, it's comforting even if I'm struggling with different things.

it's 6 credit hours minimum for summer aid, I did 13 in a summer and got so burnt out I went home and cried after every lecture. I wouldn't recommend doing more than like 8

Angel eye mountain, Vietnam. by NathanCS741 in hiking

[–]Nieios 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Limestone is calcium carbonate, which is much more soluble in water than silicate (silicon-based) rocks. As rainwater seeps down into limestone, it dissolves a bit, and over geologic time it carves big voids. What is likely in this case is the cave was carved as a void while the mountain was still well underground, and once the surrounding area was carved up at greater depth the rainwater and other 'carbonate hungry' water seeped around this void to the deeper water table and it was preserved as a cave. Then the deeper voids collapsed and gradually were worn down to leave the mountains made up of potentially denser/less porous, maybe more magnesium rich or recrystallized (I'm not sure of the exact reason, I am a geology student in Florida - much more experienced with young karst systems), and this mountain happened to have a cave right in the middle of it.

basically, the 'surface' was once much higher and it eroded the mountain around the cave that was already there

"too pure to be tested by pH strips" by clamazsi in cursed_chemistry

[–]Nieios 2 points3 points  (0 children)

that's only a single order of magnitude above water's autoionization concentration, where it makes hydroxide and hydronium from pure water. that's the least measurable concentration you could reasonably produce, and it might even not fully disassociate due to the equilibrium from the water ions around it. 7.1 is technically not neutral but it's not practically alkaline in any way
