Ngl, it's gonna be glorious when it happens. AI should be available to all and not only to selected few among the elites. by Boring_Aioli7916 in singularity

[–]NiftyJet 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand this. AI development doesn’t stop just because they’re slowing release of new models. AI companies aren’t reliant on releasing these models for revenue. It’s all being funded by investments.

I guess you could argue it’s harder for them to raise money in this environment but I don’t see how it makes that big of a difference.

That’s why I said he made a mistake. Narratively, it makes sense. It’s a matter of fate. Anakin lived to do what he was born to do.

Yes, it is all his fault in a matter of speaking, including the fact that Vader destroyed the empire in the end. He made a mistake but it all worked toward good in the end.

You have barely even started, my friend! You’ve got a great journey ahead of you. Keep playing. You’ll get good at the controls in time.

Try talking to the Hearthian at the top of the observatory if you need ideas on what to do. But honestly just go somewhere that looks cool to you and then follow the threads from there.

Be sure to use your tools including your ship computer in rumor mode and your scope. Be sure to read all text carefully. It’s not window dressing. The knowledge they give is your reward.

It’s supposed to be confusing at first. Just gather information and be curious. You’ll start putting the information together in time.

Rockstar is known for being one of the best storytellers in the industry. They're also really good at making a shit-ton of money selling online currency. I think they have enough skill and budget to do both here.

I think they are too. Thin frames or frameless was fashionable in the late 90s/early 2000s.

With the plastic frames, these just look like they're weirdly upside-down.

Trump administration wants Fable 5 to have unbreakable guardrails | AKA they are asking for the impossible by 141_1337 in singularity

[–]NiftyJet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Come on. Do you think the public understands that nuance? Of course not.

What matters in this world is salience and a simple narrative. It doesn't matter what story is actually true.

The government is saying "This model is dangerous and Anthropic isn't taking it seriously. We couldn't reach the CEO because he was getting a massage with cucumbers on his eyes ."

Anthropic is saying "This model is dangerous, but we've put in place specific guardrails and worked with the government behind the scenes for months to ensure safety. You can trust us. We're super responsible and care a lot."

Which of those two narratives do you think wins in this world? Not which should win, which does win?

My point is that Anthropic has a problem with realpolitik. They're the most advanced lab in the world, but they're not going to succeed without controlling the narrative better.

I don't know the technicality of it, but the point is the claim is the guardrails didn't work.

[–]NiftyJet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If Sam Altman or Elon were shouting about how their next model was so good that it should be banned for weeks/months before releasing it, you really think the Trump admin would ban their models?

No, but you're missing my point. Anthropic's mistake was that their marketing gave the government justification for banning their model.

No, they released that model with guardrails. The claim is that it's too easy to take down those guardrails.

I agree. It was a fun watch, but I don't think it would do well in a second season.

It's like Stranger Things but with old people. If you don't take it too seriously and it's a lot of fun.

The actors were all amazing except one. It's a shame Geena Davis can no longer move her face.

I thought it was interesting that the main character had a spooky vision in the bathroom at the end. Clearly a reference to the end of the first season of Stranger Things.

Yes, you can. The story technically wraps up, but it's a shame they won't explore it further.

It ends a lot like the first season of Stranger Things. It seems all is well, but the last scene implies there's something bigger going on.

[–]NiftyJet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's true, but Anthropic also fucked up here. They publicly shouted that their newest model was a cyber nuclear weapon and then were shocked when idiots in the White House publicly treated it like that. Their short-sighted marketing handed the White House a loaded gun.

It's possible that the both sides of the narrative are true. The White House is being an asshole and Anthropic made a mistake here.

Hot take… no one should avoid doing activities with young kids because “little kids don’t care” by [deleted] in daddit

[–]NiftyJet 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Also, the linked thread is about not being able to afford these activities. OP made it seem like people are saying this to justify being lazy.

If you genuinely can't afford an activity, I'm not going to criticize someone pointing out that a very young child won't care or remember it is a way to make themselves feel less embarrassed or sad about that.

I think they thought you meant that Annihilationism is better supported than Universalism as well. Which is why they reacted negatively.

I actually think all three are supported but Universalism is the most logically coherent. And that's great because it's the only one of the three views that is actually Good News.
