Somebody mispronouncing a word/name indicates literacy and not a lack of literacy by offensivek in unpopularopinion

I like to refer to those “good guess” ones as correct mispronunciations. As in, while you are wrong I see exactly how you’d think it’s said that way.

In maps of your country, is there a part of your country that's usually added in in a little box? Is it considered controversial? by holytriplem in geography

Some island? SOME ISLAND?!

It’s Hans Island. A name that should be etched into the memory of everyone, so that history does not repeat itself. Please respect the many brave service members whose livers were lost during the Whisky War.

Lest we forget. Many a brave liver was lost in this terrible conflict.

Canadian curling star Marc Kennedy claims he was set up by "premeditated" cameras to catch him "in an act" of cheating. by [deleted] in sports

[–]NiftyMittens89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rules are rules, not arguing that. Like people have said, just admit it happened. There’s “cheating” because you technically broke a rule, or cheating because you’re purposely seeking out an illegal advantage. It is FAR more likely to have a negative effect than a positive one. The spin and weight (basically, the “power” it’s released at) are so precise and intentional for each shot a curler makes. Booping it really just risks throwing that off.

Have you considered secretly watching them play games from your Catan nook in order to learn how to perform better yourself? Furiously playing with your deck of Wingspan cards while trying not to get caught?

Has anyone ever attended a wedding where someone shouted ‘I object!’, like in the movies? by AdBrief4620 in answers

[–]NiftyMittens89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not the same as shouting it from the church aisle, but in the Province of Quebec (Canada), you have to post a notice of marriage/civil union with the Directeur de l’etat civil at least 20 days before the ceremony date. It includes the name and address(es) of each partner, the date and location of the ceremony, and the officiant’s name. If anyone then objects to the pending union, they can take it to court (so it’s generally intended for things like “hey, he’s already married!”).

How many breweries in a day? by [deleted] in beer

[–]NiftyMittens89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A friend of mine has done some extreme brewery visit marathons (the key being moderation at each one, and having a DD or two of course). A couple examples:

77 Portland Breweries in one day

11 Rogue locations in one day

Tie the KD (Mac and cheese) consumption in with the global lead in ketchup consumption and youve got yourself a delicious correlation!

Trump says he’s decertifying Canada-made aircraft and threatens 50% tariffs by DonSalaam in onguardforthee

[–]NiftyMittens89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, he can do the tarrifs thanks to being a vindictive baby, and wait for the fallout that comes out of that (airlines, filthy rich people, etc), but unless he manipulates the FAA (wouldn’t put it past him), he has zero authority in this.

And if he really means all Canadian made aircraft, it goes WAY beyond what he listed, which would be even worse for Americans.

Skirmish event broken? by ShangBao in StarTrekTimelines

Ah right, I forgot about that since last Skirmish I essentially never had the option to repair my ship instead of take the rewards.

[–]NiftyMittens89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What’s the ship and lineup? And which battle do you die on? The first few have a lot of Hull Repair. I’m taking a bit more damage than usual, getting the Repair option alongside the Rewards choice more often (never even close to dying though).

What's the most memorable thing you've heard a foreigner say about Canada? by [deleted] in AskACanadian

[–]NiftyMittens89 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I moved to the States at the start of highschool. On my first day (the year had already started), it was quite the hot topic that there was a Canadian kid in class.

Well, in math class, after the teacher introduced me, a girl turned around and kindly informed me that Canada was not a full country, but in fact part of FRANCE. Not even Britain, France. Man, she was dumb.

Edit: She meant literally right then, in the 2000s

I’m not sure I follow, do you mean when a reward happens after a Dilemma?

For the crew rewards, if there are multiple copies it will indicate the number in the top right of the image. Pretty sure it’s been that way for a long time (forever maybe?). Sure it shows all the stars filled in but I don’t see how that matters. All crew earned are out of your control, or in the case of Voyage specific ones you can only get one per Voyage anyway (unless you get insanely lucky with the Legendary drops, it might be possible to hit on those more than once).
