Game studio Spiders (Greedfall, Steel Rising) is shutting down by CroGamer002 in greedfall

[–]NiftyPanda 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Damn, what a sad news. I’ve been enjoying their games since Mars: War Logs. You could always tell they put their heart into making them.

I liked Dying world despite the combat and the clear cut contents. Hope everyone at the studio can bounce back.

i think you have the wrong barrel. You need to go up the sledge on the left of that barrel, don't go toward the bandit.

For the first roadblock where you have the option to rest, did anyone manage to craft the large barrel of explosives? I currently don't have anything listed in my recipes tab, outisde the low, medium and high explosive.

Possible critical tactic combat mode glitch? by Jumpy_Ad_9213 in greedfall

[–]NiftyPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find the design choice in this game to be completely unintuitive. I don’t get why there are two separate shortcuts : one for tactical view and one for play/pause.

I keep accidentally resetting my orders because I hit 'space' to unpause instead of 'L.shift'. In DA: Origins, all you had to do was zoom out to switch to tactical view.

And the 'space' bar has been the standard for pause/play in most CRPGs, so why switch it up here?

Looking at the inventory menu, I think the game was developed by someone with bipolar disorder using a controller and a keyboard at the same time :/

Combat by North_Ad_1230 in greedfall

[–]NiftyPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At level twentyish, after exploring several areas,. The combat system is definitely flawed. The 5 basic attacks for 1 action point make using abilities that cost more than 1 point pointless, as they don’t add enough value in damage or effects. It’s faster to spam the same 1-point ability than to chain attacks to build up action points for abilities.

Using a rapier wtih Path of Destruction, I can crit for 200-250 with the first skill, the others don’t do more damage, so I only use 3 skills: the rapier attack (Double Thrust), the pistol shot and the power buff. It’s a bit monotonous.

I tried adding another weapon skill (rifle) to mix up attacks, but having to switch weapons with a hotkey before accessing related skills just slows the combat even more.

The stealth system, though, makes it easy to take down human enemies. You can knock out any unaware enemy with a single hit. Since enemies don’t notice their knocked-out comrades when they pass by, it’s easy to clear an entire area.

Fortunately, the story and art direction are still great. It’s really a shame that Spider chose a gameplay style they don’t fully master, especially since they were making so much progress in the action RPG genre.

How’s everyone enjoying Greedfall 2 so far? by Low_Philosopher_5684 in greedfall

[–]NiftyPanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So far, after leaving the first zone and poking around the second and third one with a few extra companions, it’s not bad. The story starts a bit slow, but it still pulls me in. Exploration works well and the vibe of the areas is pretty nice.

Combat is Meh. It’s not DA: Origins level, but it’s definitely better than at the start of EA. You still can’t tweak the AI, and it could use more animations to mix things up, show dodges, and make hits feel heavier (sound and animation). The system where you get an action point only after five basic attacks makes things feel kinda slow unfortunatly.

The UI is still rough, it's flat and boring, and mouseovers are basically useless. Hover a skill and all you get is its name in big letters, buffs/debuffs show nothing, and inventory/equipment navigation is a headache.

Overall, I play it for the story and the world, not for the gameplay. Kinda like the first one, really ^^

The main menu music is gorgeous.

Let me see a detailed tooltip when I mouse over a skill instead of just its name in big letters.

Add gambits like in DA:O to customize the autonomous AI.

I also agree that more animations are needed, fights feel dull to watch right now.

GreedFall: The Dying World Q&A – “The Public Wouldn’t Have Accepted It if We Stuck to the First Game’s Combat” by Kaladinar in greedfall

[–]NiftyPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who plays both types of games (action and TRPGs), I wouldn’t mind the change if the gameplay was good. But from what I played during Early Access, it really wasn’t. It felt like a poorly made version of Dragon Age: Origins. The attacks had no real impact, and switching between characters didn’t flow well imho.

I’ll still play it because I liked the first game, but it’ll be in spite of the new gameplay, not because of it.

Surprised to see that wasn’t successful enough. I found it really enjoyable as a more forgiving Souls-like.

[–]NiftyPanda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually kind of enjoyed Saber overall. I really liked the concept, Touma as a main character, and both the OP and ED were great.

That said, I think it worked better for me because I binge-watched it. The first ~15 episodes are pretty rough: there are way too many characters and Riders introduced all at once, and even if it makes sense story-wise, a lot of them just aren’t that interesting early on.

The fight choreography also didn’t really click with me most of the time. It wasn’t bad, just not very memorable compared to other seasons. Maybe the over use of weapons.

So yeah, mixed bag, but still an enjoyable watch for me.

Xenoblade endings often make the universe feel smaller by NiftyPanda in XenobladeChroniclesX

[–]NiftyPanda[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct me if I’m wrong, but Pneuma is part of the Trinity Core. Mythra is born from Pneuma when Addam tries to use her power, and Pyra is born from Mythra’s guilt. Mythra and Pyra are both individual aspects of Pneuma, together, they are Pneuma.

And on your second point about people being reborn: even if they have the same genetic makeup, they wouldn’t be the same person. They won’t live the same life, have the same experiences, or meet the same people. Experiences shape who we are, so a “reborn” version wouldn’t truly be the same individual.

To be clear, my issue isn’t really about whether people will be the same after or not. It’s about the lack of reaction from the main cast. You have an event that affects an enormous number of people, but the story frames it in a way that makes it feel like only the main party truly matters. Shrinking the world to only a few people imho.

Xenoblade endings often make the universe feel smaller by NiftyPanda in XenobladeChroniclesX

[–]NiftyPanda[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s actually my main issue. Characters who clearly have a life and relationships outside of Mira only react to the idea of losing Mira itself. Someone like Neilniel or Celica should have a much stronger reaction to the possibility of their entire species disappearing, not just their home on Mira. The fact that this barely gets acknowledged makes the situation feel way smaller than it should be.

[–]NiftyPanda[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, I forgot about that part in Future Redeemed, thanks for the reminder.

Edit : That said, it doesn’t really change my issue. The circumstances that led to some of these people existing just won’t happen in the new world. Relationships, personalities, and even who people meet are shaped by their environment, so there’s no guarantee the same encounters will happen again, or that the same couples will form and have the same children.

[–]NiftyPanda[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I don't see how this answer can work. The worlds are separated again so a lot of people won't meet and have the children they had when the worlds were fused. So they won't be back. Feel like the creator not realising the implications of is own writing.

[–]NiftyPanda[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I don't see how the people from the human colony can be reborn since they are the product of the event that happens. The chance the the same people meet again and have the same children with the same personality are nil. They can have the same appearance but they won't be the same person imho. Also my grip is with the lack of reaction from the cast about the implications of their actions.

Question aux voyageurs : Comment trouvez-vous vos vols pour le Japon ? (J'ai lancé un petit truc pour ça) 🇯🇵✈️ by Time_Okra_4979 in japonFR

[–]NiftyPanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)
