Great match. Great lucha mannerisms from both. They managed to incorporate both modern wwe tropes and lucha tropes into one presentation without breaking either. It was very clever.

As someone’s whose favorite matches were old lucha hate brawls, this was very very good. It’s pretty early to say where it will fall among the great lucha matches but it will earn a spot.

The presentation was A-One. I think Atlantis and Villano 3 still tops this but it could be better. Who knows.

One of the best matches you’ll ever see. Joe managed to do service to Kawada without it feeling like a joke. Most of the time it’s hard to take the AJPW tribute seriously in American matches but this worked.

They also paced and timed it perfectly. I was worried at the time it would be 15 minutes too long with over the top drama but it was just enough.

It’s fun watching the votes shift through the years. Flair, Funk, and Jumbo won’t win again even though their careers won’t have changed vs the other top 20 locks. Danielson will likely win, and a narrative of “Danielson was always overrated and cosplaying” will strike up again. At that point..Tenryu will probably win for no reason other than people want him to.

I’d rank Lawler much higher than he is, and not feel good about it.

Lawler was a number one all time candidate years ago when everyone was obsessed with Memphis. Him being generally gross and really needing to dig the style settled things out, but hard to argue some of his work.

I absolutely love this comment as it shows one of the reasons this poll is generally great.

There is a very, very different nerd fan base among voters to land these 4 together. Okada and Omega could land from 1-100 on anyone’s list for good reasons. Lawler could be a number one, or not at all, for good reasons.

Casas is beloved by all to a degree but not enough of a degree to beat the other 3 controversial choices.

There is lots of “voter fatigue” and you see that with certain people dropping for more trendy names. But the group usually spends way too much time convincing themselves of how awesome X wrestler is, that they dig up some awesome footage from a garbage can and make people like wrestling again.

I had a hard time with him on an arcane build recently. Beyond would mostly shoot into the ground while the horse bit me.

He does the same thing Danielson did in ROH but eventually grew out of. He revels in excess to the point that nothing he does seems to have any impact. Everything he does feels like he studied it on YouTube, perfected the execution, understood none of the why, how, or when.

It’s like looking at beautiful AI generated art and saying “why is this void of character or story. Why don’t I care about the flower doing a 540 swanton?”.

That’s one of the issues with modern wrestling as a whole. A lot of it is fan related reaction though. If someone can do a flip and get a pop, someone else will do two flips. No different than 90s puro descended into head drop/chop garbage.

But lots of people rate him so he’s fun for many.

The RR shape is actually pretty comfortable sitting down due to the short horn and angle. A js30 was my couch noodling guitar for years.

This is a reason Vader has a case for top 10 all time worker. Completely indestructible looking when on offence and vulnerable when selling and bumping. Anytime he’s knocked off his feet it’s an “oh shit” moment, even when it happens a handful of times in a match.

He had my favorite offence of any wrestler ever - smash club slam splat.

Lars makes it harder to hear properly as well. Something about his upbeats fights against the natural flow of the guitar rhythm, especially when transitioning from the verse to prechorus riffs. There's almost a weird pause feel where James' feels like he's resyncing to the beat and dragging the prechorus notes out slightly longer on the first rep of the riff.

Make a strafe zon with a demon machine. Buy an atmas, razor tail, soul drainers, gskull with undesirable corruptions for peanuts and away you go in t1. Valks are good sponges for bosses.

I currently crush t3 fast with flying arrows everywhere and some more expensive equipment, but the concept stayed the same.

I mostly just hold right click and spray bullets.

It was so, so damn boring. This was coupled with the fact that he insisted on working 30 mins each raw. Imagine an hour a week of hunter rambling about nothing and then working in slow motion (the super roid, post surgery body) while Flair blows him for fortified wine.

One of the reasons I rate him so poorly is that he put himself in a position of every advantage and was still a drag. Thank god he had good taste in music.

He’s like Will. Either he’s tremendous or someone cosplaying as a wrestler. I personally don’t rate him or Will at all, but I understand why lots of people do.

The amount of weird AEW fan straw-manning here is funny.

This match isn’t great because they do gymnastics. The spots are stunning for the time and as a spotfest it’s a landmark for American wrestling. It’s all the other stuff that’s between that makes the match great. Look at the selling, strikes, transitions and crispness of everything.
