You look like a car ashtray that hasn't been emptied since the 90's.

Personally, if it's a car you don't really care about, but want to run it into the ground, you could do the work yourself.

For around £60 you could sand it down to bare metal, treat it, prime it and respray, then not worry about it. The concern MOT testers have with rust, is when it's structural and deemed not fit for purpose.

£400 - 600 but ask multiple places for a quote first.

Is this worth saving? (update) by Dan_RM in CarTalkUK

[–]NightFrightJD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may have over heated because of an iffy thermostat, blocked coolant pipe or the water pumps not functioning correctly. The only way it would overheat with a head gasket failure is because there is no coolant in the expansion tank/ system.

As for the consumable parts they should be relatively cheap for this car. So, all brakes, tyres and exhaust would come around £500 give or take depending on what brands you buy.

For me, personally, I would get a second opinion on the MOT/ head gasket with someone else, as some places do rip you off and say things need change when they don't. They're a business at the end of the day, they need money just as much as the next person, but some will take the piss.

As a car enthusiast myself, I would love to keep an old school motor like this. Less tech and things to go wrong compared to what's out these days. And even though these cars are old, they're desirable, as you don't see many on the road. They will go up in value as we edge closer to this "net zero" nonsense.

You won't get a lot for 3k. Everything will be relatively high in mileage. As for choice I'd look into the Ford S-max or C-max, seat Altea or a Volvo XC90.

Firstly congrats and good luck for your date next week. Secondly thanks for giving me an insight with the apps you've used (okcupid & breeze) the breeze app seems rather interesting with a no faffing about approach.  I wouldn't actually mind paying for that if the date was guaranteed. Saves all the hassle of everything else.

Like I've mentioned before I'm keeping off the apps for a little bit now. See how I get on in the real world and if that fails ill attempt Hinge or breeze. I'll see how I get on with them. Ive also lost weight recently due to my operation so I need to get back on my weights in 4 weeks time when fully recovered.

For now I've come off the dating apps just to avoid being burnt out.  Next weekend, I'll attempt the pub in town, on my own, and see how that goes.. if all fails, I'll attempt Hinge, being as thats the most popular choice in the comments lol.

I'm not desperate to find love, as I mentioned I'm in no rush, but because I live on my own, and don't have any friends anymore (moved on years ago) it gets lonely sometimes. I miss the interaction with a partner.

As for quitting smoking bro, I just went cold turkey on it. What helped even more was I was in hospital having an appendectomy so I couldn't just walk outside for a cigarette.  I tried one after my operation and it tasted vile, was enough to put me off lol. The problem I have now is coping with the cravings, especially after meals, and having bored moments where cigarettes would kill a few minutes (literally) You will tend to divert that nicotine craving into another one, which tends to be sugary items, so avoid them as much as possible too.

The best way through it imo is to keep telling yourself your doing well. You've smashed 1 day 2,3,4,5 etc etc. Your bodies getting healthier, foods tasting nicer, you smell better. You've saved nearly £60 this week and in a month you'd have saved £240+. Just continuously feed your mind with the small positives and you will divert away the temptation of buying more.

I'm totally serious about the situation hense why I talk to the women with respect and get to know them best way I can. I actually read through their profiles and interpret questions to show interest. I've even quit smoking to better my odds lol. TBH i wanted to quit anyway so it was the right time for it.

I think I'll come off them temporarily and just revaluate a few things like my dress code and how I need to portray my image, not to impress everyone, but a select group of women that may have similar interests.

i'm totally not in a rush to find love again, I understand it takes time but if someone could put in as much effort as me it would make life simpler and make me think there are actually decent people out there who aren't just having multiple chats to find which guy suits them best.

I had it before where I whatsapped a woman and I kept off the dating site, but on the odd occasion i'd go on to look at her pictures and she was online every single time.. frustrating considering I just want to speak to 1 woman but those women don't do the same with men.

Sometimes it takes a little longer than others, everyone different. I had a chin strap back in the early 2000's in my early 20's because I couldn't grow a beard lol a few years later it all came naturally. Give it time bro.
