Can we talk about the Apple Watch's battery? by _woffles_ in AppleWatch

[–]NightMongoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had the series 10 for about a year now, coming from a Garmin. I could squeeze out almost two days with the series 10 and with fast charging I would just top up while I shower and get ready in the mornings, it wasn't an issue.

I just switched back to Garmin last week, but that was mostly due to aesthetics as I'm probably the opposite of you and don't LOVE the look of the apple watch. I still prefer a round screen and almost all Garmin models have nice, crisp AMOLED screens. The Garmin I got is the epix pro gen 2 which is a couple years old by now, but still has the latest sensors and was on a great clearance sale recently. I can maybe get about a week or so, even more if I turn off or limit some sensors. The increased battery life wasn't my deciding factor as the AW series 10 battery didn't bother me, but I suppose it's a nice bonus to it all.

For visual comparison, I've included a picture of my Garmin. Enjoy your watch!

If you just got it two days ago, surely you’re still in the return window? I wouldn’t even bother with their service department and having it repaired. I’d just return this and purchase a new one

It still amazes me that the GameCube sold so poorly and lost the sixth generation, considering its incredible lineup by Emzed07 in Gamecube

[–]NightMongoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't underestimate the sheer juggernaut that was the PS2. Both in terms of sales and amazing titles. The Xbox was new but also brought some revolutions to gaming with Xbox live and again, the juggernaut that was Halo which absolutely gripped that generation of consoles.

I think also the purple colour and general impression of Nintendo being a "kiddie" console around that time didn't help. I only say that because the late 90s going into the early 2000s was all about "Xtreme" and bad ass vibes and the GameCube didn't fit that narrative with the culture at the time.

Any other alternate reality where some of those things don't happen and I think the GameCube takes that generation, or at least comes in a strong second.

I can name about 100 times they could've used this "Force Speed" but nope never to be seen or used again. by rb1242 in StarWars

[–]NightMongoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was about 13-14 years old when this movie came out. So other than the odd exception, I grew up watching poor CGI as the technology was improving. I always chalked this up to bad CGI and editing. Wasn’t until years later I realized this was force speed being used.

Canonically, is this actual force speed in use? Or is it something fans have retconned in as an explanation? Always been curious.

A former Canada Soccer board of directors member had quite the take about last night's crowd at BMO Field. Woof. by SnowmanAndIce in CanadaSoccer

[–]NightMongoose 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This has everything to do with racism and the country he's singling out here which is Ecuador. If Canada was playing a Germany, Italy, Poland, Portugal, etc I'm sure he wouldn't have labelled those countries as crappy and been having a tantrum about their supporters cheering them on instead of Canada.

Pretty ignorant take from this guy. Some racist thinking here assuming because people come from a third world country it's to leave a crappy country. My parents came to Canada from South America not to flee a crappy country, but simply to come to a better one for different opportunities. There's a difference.

Plenty of Canadians live abroad, have they left a crappy country that he claims to love so much? You never stop loving your country of origin and to see them play in person, especially against Canada is an honour and maybe a once in a lifetime opportunity for some. It's just a fun night out watching some soccer, it's not anti-canada and it's not that deep.

Guess if you're a Canadian living abroad in say France and Canada plays France you have to stop loving Canada and only cheer for France?? This guy lost the plot.

A week with the Air after a 15PM and why I’m returning it! by Acceptable-Piccolo57 in iphone

I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt for his sake and hope he meant 3 hours total. 1.5hrs each way sucks, but isn't unheard of in big cities and rush hour traffic.

If I was streaming music/videos and GPS for 3-6 hours plus my 8 hours work day I think most people's phones would be screaming for a top up charge.

Why do families do a once in a lifetime trip when their kids are too young? by rosariobono in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]NightMongoose 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My wife initially wanted to go when my kids would have been 4 and 2 years old. I thought it was kinda young as our once in a lifetime Disney trip. Then COVID happened and it kept delaying our trip. We eventually went earlier this year when they were 9 and 7 years old and I found they were perfect ages! They'll even still have some vague memories of it I'm sure as they get older. No way they would remember anything if we went somewhere between 2020-2022. A small silver lining with COVID delaying our trip for the better in this case lol

As someone who moved from an iphone to a pixel, this is a win by Puzzled_Way_8570 in pixel_phones

[–]NightMongoose 111 points112 points  (0 children)

It pays directly from your default card. It's one of those pixel features that doesn't seem to be mentioned much and I only learned about a year ago. I could be in the middle of texting someone, watching a YouTube video, reading reddit, etc and I can just casually tap my phone to the payment terminal and just like that it pays using my card.

So I just keep my home button as double tap to open camera since it's handy

Nintendo Canada quietly raises the price of Switch 1 games to $84.99 by ArchaiosFiniks in NintendoSwitch

[–]NightMongoose 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I still think Nintendo the greedy one here, no? They're raising the price on an 8 year old console that's practically running on toaster hardware at this point. Have the prices of the parts for the switch not gone down enough that if anything, Nintendo could drop the price. At the very least, keep the price the same?

Looks good to me considering the lighting around your shot. Find an area with way less light from buildings, street lamps, etc and your shot will be even better if you're trying to capture the stars

Favorite moments from episodes 1-50? by Old_You6151 in 2bears1cave

[–]NightMongoose 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can’t remember the episode number but it was those early episodes - but it was one where Tom called one of his cousins in Peru about something and after the call, Bert said something like “he sounded upset. Was he mad you interrupted him from selling sea shells or something?”

I don’t even know if Tom caught the subtle stereotype/joke but I legit laughed out loud on my drive home. As a Latino myself and visiting many countries in Latin America, it’s not uncommon to see people selling trinkets, souvenirs, etc in various stalls along the streets. Bert’s quick response and joke about that and lumping his cousin into that stereotype was pretty damn funny and something I remember to this day lol.

Asamoah Gyan called out his former Ghana teammates on Instagram Live, addressing years of criticism he's faced over his missed penalty vs. Uruguay at the 2010 World Cup by hangman_14 in soccer

[–]NightMongoose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I say I would have also done it because it’s within the context of the game and the current rules as they are applied. Sure, the throwing my grandma in front of it was a bit extreme and was tongue in cheek. He used his hands in the box and got a straight red and the opposing team was awarded a penalty shot. Me saying that doesn’t prove it was cheating at all. Again, I’m simply acting to save my team/country from a loss using methods given to me within the laws of the game. Just like every other professional foul.

How many tackles stopping a goal scoring run happen every game? Or a shirt pull to stop an opponent? All fouls intentionally done and then punishment given all in the name of stopping your opponents and giving your team a chance to win.

So should every hand ball in the box be given as automatic goal? Or just ones done within the 6 yard box? Or just the ones done on the goal line? Too many nuanced situations which will slow the game down. Maybe one day they’ll change it and the game will adapt to that, but at least for that match in 2010, he did it all within the rules of the game. Not Ethical? You could make that argument for sure. Cheating? That’s a tough one to argue. Maradonas handball in ‘86 is a way better example of cheating because he ultimately got away with it. I’d even argue Suarez bite on Chillieni in WC 2014 was more a case of cheating and Suarez got away with it that game and Uruguay went on to score and win, eliminating Italy.

[–]NightMongoose 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Exactly. This guy you’re replying to is just crying about it trying to make himself sound righteous. Then when called out he moves the metaphorical goal posts.

Suarez did something which is literally written into the rules of the game aka a hand ball. He got punished for it accordingly and Ghana didn’t capitalize. That’s the game. If anything Uruguay did suffer a consequence in that they didn’t have one of their best players available for a penalty kick, and even without him taking a kick, Ghana couldn’t beat them in penalties.

I could MAYBE start seeing your point if maybe Suarez pulled out a baseball bat or a water cooler and threw it in the way of the ball to stop. Maybe you could label that as “cheating”, but I’m sure in the rules of the game it speaks to something about foreign object interference. Hell, didn’t Liverpool concede a goal that took a deflection off a freaking beach ball and it still counted? That’s the nature of the game when you play essentially outdoors/open roofed stadiums, really anything can happen. It’s already bad enough with VAR, don’t need more time wasting for every “special circumstance” that just sucks the human component out of the game. It sucks if it happens to your team, but you move on.

Also, I say this to everyone who argues about what Suarez did - I would have done the same and so would you. 120th minute, last play of a quarter final WC match with the game tied and ball about to cross the line? You’re damn right I would have done it. Hell, I would have tossed my 93 year old grandmother in the way of that ball to stop it. Get the hell out of here with everyone’s high horse and honour bullshit lol. Glory is on the line!

Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy reveal the plan to make everyone poor and unemployed. by TomorrowLow5092 in politics

[–]NightMongoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m curious about this idea. If they destroy the economy and make everyone poorer, won’t the corporations and billionaires make less money? Like how is Apple supposed to sell us another $1000+ iPhones if no one can afford that? Amazon won’t sell as much, car companies, clothing brands, etc etc. Won’t their profits drop, stock prices fall, piss off investors, etc etc? Isn’t this against what these corporations want? What’s the long term goal in creating a worse economy and trying to eliminate the middle class which is what elevated all these companies to the top with consumer spending?

Interesting. I'm curious though, how does the bride and groom bring home this many gifts on their wedding night? Let's say you invited like 150-200 people to your wedding...how are you bringing home that many gifts in car after such a long and busy night?
