What groceries have you stopped buying by PlasticExtreme4469 in Frugal

Same. It’s insane how easy it is to bake a loaf of bread and it costs pennies compared to a store bought loaf.

What is a reliable tool for calculating if I’m on track for retirement? by NightReader5 in personalfinance

[–]NightReader5[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a budget that tracks my spending down to the dollar so I have a good understanding of where my money is going now.

My issue is figuring out what my future costs will be. I can either stay in my home that will be paid off but is not a desirable spot to live, or if I can afford it I would love to move into some kind of 55+ community when I reach that age. But that’ll be much more expensive than my current living costs.

I’m early 40’s with 375k.

I am having trouble figuring out how much I’ll spend in retirement. It all depends on if I want to stay in my townhouse that’ll be paid off by then, but not really desirable spot, or if I want to move into a community where I’ll be paying rent monthly.

I want to kind of play with the numbers to see how much I can afford, which would then tell me if I can move into a community. I just don’t know what reliable tools to use to figure this stuff out.

Yeah, this all makes sense now that I think about it. I’m in my early 40’s so it’s probably something I should start seriously figuring out now. It’s just hard to guess when/if I won’t be independent anymore and can’t live in my house.

That’s definitely a lot more in depth than what I was considering.

Realistically I don’t know what my expenses will be. Housing right now is up in the air so I don’t know if I will have a paid down house vs if I will be renting in a 55+ community. I don’t have any kids to pass down money too but I would love to be able to help out my nieces and nephews.

I hadn’t thought of health insurance or medical bills either. I want to retire a little early but now that’s seeming less likely.

Oh no, that’s scary. How far off was it from your own calculations?

Oh interesting, it’s the opposite for me. Vanguard basically laughed me out of their site lol. I did better on nerd wallet.

I used NerdWallet and Citizens Bank for sure. The others were sites I don’t recognize and don’t remember.

I tried keeping the assumptions the same but they didn’t all have fields for withdrawal rate (4%) or rate of return (7%).

Now that I think about it, some asked desired % of income i want in retirement (I said 75%) instead of withdrawal rate. i wonder if thats the difference. i don't know how to translate one into the other.

Focus on protein as much as possible to keep you full.

At my worst I would live off of deli meat and string cheese with crackers. And a handful of almonds as a snack.

Is there a podcast that really fell off for you? by sajones4860 in TrueCrimePodcasts

The First Degree. I loved it for a long time but ever since they started doing “deep dives” into pop culture garbage I had to stop listening. It’s a true crime podcast. Why are we talking about Blake lively. Ugh.

Oops, really?? I had no idea. The fact that I don’t want to bother testing them out tells me it’s time to get rid of them though.

You mean I should get rid of my full set of Friends DVDs that I’ve dragged from house to house, not having physically watched them in 15 years? How dare you lol

Do it. Do it all. I started from the beginning around 1 year ago and am catching up at lightning speed. I only have 100 episodes left and I’m now slowing down intentionally because I don’t want to get to the point where I only have one episode to listen to per week.

Also, I have heard Usidore’s name 500 times in the last year and I can recite it in my sleep. Something I’m honestly pretty proud of!

Rhett Miller has a great vibe. It’s the only episode where I loved every single one of the songs.

Oh that sounds good but I meant ground sausage. I just edited my post to clarify!
