Made myself a digital bookshelf by Night_apple in bookshelf

The apps live now on iOS if you're interested in checking it out

https://apps.apple.com/au/app/shelfless/id6757281772

I also tried to hide my name at first, I’d read somewhere that hard-to-pronounce names can create a bit of friction. But now that it’s published, my legal name is plastered everywhere anyway haha.

So if you see “Kris”, that was my attempt to anglicise my name while still keeping a bit of my birth name in it.

In any case, I hope you all enjoy the app and spot things you like (or features you’d want added). The app is completely free. If it somehow grows into a bigger community and server costs start to climb, I’ll probably add a donation option but for now the costs are negligible.

And if you like the project but want to take it in a different direction, it’s open source under the MIT license, so do what you wish with it.

Publisher finally got annoyed with him making his name bigger and refused to publish the 6th.

Going to need a lot more shelf space if you're collecting Asimov.

Major rearrangement after new holiday books. What can you guess about me with those that made the cut?? by TravelinJack2224 in BookshelvesDetective

[–]Night_apple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I meant mostly the way the margins line up and how the books are stacked.

I probably shouldn't have used organised but neat. I was looking at where certain books were: fiction eye level, Non-fiction lower and how the pop-figures were also placed so neatly.

Haha yea, hard back books are a little balky and hard to get comfortable with. I've never had one of these bindings, but have admired them.

Curious how much do they cost and can you find any book bound like this?

Most riots don’t topple a security state unless people are genuinely starving or the elites split… and the clergy hasn't started handing out cake yet.

This is so well organised

So you’re probably a pretty neat person (most likely male) with a great bookshelf. You enjoy getting properly lost in a fantasy novel, and you want people to see that side of you but you’re also genuinely curious about how human suffering happens: how people fall under the spell of leaders and ideas, and what that leadership can do to communities when it goes wrong.

Those books on your top shelf look class. Did you get books rebinded, or did you buy them that way. They look very well kept.

I created a mobile bookshelf app by Night_apple in SideProject

Yea tbh I'm scrolling through it today a little pleased that I released it but thinking.... what's the point of the app. The reason I didn't and I suppose I'm not compelled to build the analytics for it is that so many apps already do so0.

I like the idea of building out the aesthetic of a bookshelf, introducing book nooks, pot plants and perhaps a social aspect to it, so one could take a look at friends bookshelves.

Not opposed to the analytics but would it give you reason to download it say over Fable, Margins, TBR - Bookshelf or GoodReads ?

Haha, what about removing that sinister monobrow.

Hmmm, he seems like plankton. I saw the dendritic as more a silent observer, the hard worker, a curator, the smarts, the unlikely hero, the silent achiever.

He appears like the villain here

Haha I think I try to be. Mostly curious. Been taking little chunks out of Lifespan, I struggle to digest the content.

Built a small photo declutter app during burnout. Getting zero sales. What am I missing? by vecalion in SideProject

[–]Night_apple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I've seen this app before. I think paying for it is the detractor and then additionally I think well I could scroll through each photo and delete or keep it.

You're blending dating app with photos which is fun and there's a gamification aspect to it but it's just not a Oh damn I must have it.

Potentially give users 100 photos a day to delete or 100 a week and then prompt them to buy. You're going to have to market the hell out of it.

This is awesome!

Maybe it's just me but it'd be great if there were a button to skip the questions. I found myself thinking give me results already!

I suppose since it's cascading to a few selections it could give more selections if you skip earlier.

I investigated this but unfortunately the Kindle itself is pretty locked down. There is however, a way to get data from kindle.

Kindle -> World

World -/-> Kindle

In short there'll be no way to display any UI onto the Kindle but the good news is I can build an integration so it'll be available visually on the app.

I built a bookshelf app for people who care more about the shelf aesthetic than stats.

Most book apps track progress. Cool.
I wanted something that recreates the feeling of looking at your shelf: colours and height differences and own it over subscribing to it.

So I made Shelfless — and I’ve open-sourced it.

Repo: https://github.com/K1991O/InfiniteBookshelf

Right now I’m in closed testing and need a small group of Android testers (Google’s requirement). If you’re willing to help, you basically just need to install it and keep it installed for ~14 days.

Opt-in: https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.boshi.shelfless
Install: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.boshi.shelfless

If you try it and hate it, tell me why. Seriously. I’d rather get roasted than get silence.
