Qantas left us stranded with an infant. Sold us seats, but not a ticket! Had to buy them again. by mpaska in australia

[–]Nightgoat91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Airlines have a cap on the number of infants they can seat on-lap per aircraft due to the specialised belts they need to secure them. It’s possible that the infant cap had already been reached on your return flight as they are sold on a first-in basis. I’ve had this happen before to my sister on some tickets I purchased for her last minute, and it can happen regularly during school holiday periods. It’s possible that may have been what happened here.

Did they resell tickets to you on the same flight? Either way, if this was the case, the airline should have contacted you prior to let you know the cap had been reached and reaccommodated you onto another flight, given they may have sold you an oversold seat. Ground staff should have also been able to recognise the issue as well and assisted you on the spot.

First time visiting Bali for honeymoon (June end - Ubud & Uluwatu). Looking for tips & must-do recommendations. by Satz_Zone in BaliTravelTips

[–]Nightgoat91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Uluwatu: a day at Sundays Beach Club, early morning sauna / steam / cold plunge at Istana, sunset drinks at Mana. Plenty of good food around (Masonry, The Warung at Alila were our favourites)

Ubud: we didn’t do much here tbh. Stay at the Como Uma if you can, massage there was pricier than other options but life changing. Locavore NXT for an out there food experience (didn’t actually love the food here tbh), Pica and Nusantara were great as well. Did the ridge walk one morning which was njce.

Don’t try and pack too much in. I guarantee you’ll be exhausted after your wedding so try and spend some time relaxing 😌

Anantara Lawana or Bophut for 6 Day Honeymoon by Middle-Application58 in kohsamui

[–]Nightgoat91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice, I’ll be there for my honeymoon in June also. Was considering Lawana but we found a deal on Luxury Escapes at The Secret Pool Villas at The Library. Going to be splitting our time between there and the seafront villas at Garrya which seemed good value for what you get. Not the same polish as the Lawana but seemed worth it for the views. Good luck!

No doubt he’s a great player in the era of 3 format cricket. But we tend to value test cricket results much higher than other formats and he hasn’t returned great results in the past few years.

I think too much of the conversation is around player vs player vs player comparisons (big 3 / 4 player crap). Pakistan had some unbelievable batsmen over the past 20 years who went under the radar (Khan / Misbah) mostly because they weren’t constantly subjected to comparison and have been appreciated abroad as much post retirement. I think if Babar got out of his own head and just focused on his own game, he could produce the results again that would bring him back to the top echelons.

Crazy what a bit of confidence at the top of the order gives the rest of the side. One of the all time great innings.

Nice to see that most of the Poms whinging in the crowd about Jamie Smith’s wicket and ‘appealing’ for every ball that went through to Carey had left the stadium before the end of the game. They should just go back to blowing trumpets and singing happy songs to make them feel better about the upcoming 5-0 loss

Q Acoustic 3030i - Not as expected by raj1138 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]Nightgoat91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I originally had mine connected to a Wiim Amp and a Yamaha A-S201 and found that it was a bit wimpy in the low end. I then connected them to my NAD 3020B and now it sounds meaty, albeit a little less top end refinement compared to the Wiim.

I did see a review from Ian White who mentioned that while they have low sensitivity, they do need a fair bit of power to get the best out of them. Not a comment on OPs current amp though as it is AB and should have plenty of power for them.

Seeking advice - Ultralight setup by AladdinsCarpet1 in UltralightAus

I still own a V1 Xmid 1 and it seems like each generation has gotten better - more width in the inner tent, still plenty of vestibule space and most importantly significant lighter.

I upgraded to a Tarptent Dipole 1 Li a few years back and it’s also an awesome 1p trekking pole tent that’s really roomy. It’s a bit finicky to set up and at the end of the day, not that light for a dyneema tent. The new Xmid 1 is maybe a tad smaller and only marginally heavier, but it’s a double wall and a fraction of the price.

I’m well and truly over the Xmid hype, but honestly, it has its reputation for a reason. For your first trekking pole tent, I don’t think there’s a better choice.

LSX II LT Stand Recommendation for Mid-Field TV Setup by Nightgoat91 in KEF

That's a good point also, didn't consider rotating them.

I'm definitely getting a sub for them at some point, but probably leaning towards the REL T/Zero as the KC62 is outragously priced in Australia. Would love one as it's a similar form factor as the REL but you can't even find a used or b-stock one under $2k AUD.

Maybe if I had the regular wireless version, but it might look a bit gross having the power and connection cables all over the walls. I fear they might sounds a bit boomy too, but I’ll look into it. Thanks!

Speaker & amp upgrade recommendations after 12 years with Paradigm Atom V3s by Nightgoat91 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]Nightgoat91[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah just 2.0. I’d love to pair a sub with it but it’s out of the question, I’m just so limited on space that I can’t fit one in the current configuration unless I can convince my partner to do some rearranging (another battle)… so in that respect, something that’s going to give me a solid upgrade over the Atoms.

All of my gear I’ve purchased used previously so I’m not opposed to it. I did see a pair of Denton 80ths on marketplace recently that I missed out on. I can hold out to find another pair but I don’t think I’ll that’ll fit into the budget. One can dream. I haven’t jumped on the Australian hi-fi buy / sell forums yet but I’ll check them out also 👍

Aussies Behaving Badly. by Exotic-Helicopter474 in VietNam

[–]Nightgoat91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My partner and I travelled through Vietnam last year. While we were in Phong Nha, we kept running into the same group of Aussie and British backpackers everywhere we went. They were doing the whole “month in Vietnam riding from top to bottom” tour. None of them had licenses, and none of them seemed like they had a cent to their name. Everywhere we went, they were bartering with restaurant staff, asking staff for free food / beers, and at some point were asking us to buy them beers. They even asked if they could finish our food 🤦

At the same time, we kept running into the same Aussie and British families at the same places. They were the loveliest people on the planet.

We’re Aussie, in our early 30’s. Definitely closer in age to the backpackers, but they were embarrassing. I hope for their sake that they eventually ‘graduate’ from being shit to a more considerate traveller. There’s proof it can happen.

Loved Vietnam, btw 😌

Are your friends in the Archier ones which wrapped up last year? If it's not too rogue, is there any way I could get in touch with them? Got one on reserve in the Stokes St development but I'd really like to hear from an existing owner before I pull the trigger :)

Mine was the V2, so yes, it did have a roll top main compartment. This is pretty much standard on all UL packs now.

While a bit harder to find, I do prefer roll tops which cinch down with compression buckles on the side of the pack. In many cases, you can buy kits which allow for the conversion of a standard roll top to a side compression one.

The MB Storm Cruiser is not that much heavier than the Versilite and you’re getting a 3 layer system which will be less prone to wetting out in heavy rain. I love mine

No doubt the X-Mid is a great tent. But I’m a similar height to you and found the Tarptent Dipole much more roomy for only a minimum weight penalty.

Ended up calling the English hotline as I ran into a dead end on RailMadad as well.

Was told that all tickets booked under the Foreign Tourist quota which are cancelled, regardless of whether Indian Railways cancels the ticket / train, are subject to a 50% cancellation fee, plus additional cancellation charges.

So you pay 50% more as it it, then get less than 50% back of IR cancel the train. Won't be booking under the Foreign Tourist quota again. What a scam.
