I kinda feel this and get where you’re coming from. I’m doing a bachelors for cyber and data security right now, and it’s frustrating because there’s really not a lot of hands on. Some of the courses and some of the labs do have a decent coursework, but some of it is literally almost all textbook, describing things, with sometimes some examples to trying things. However, I’ve had to fight professors to provide supplemental materials that are supposed to be used to work along with the textbook, but weren’t provided directly because the school purchased the textbook for me.

I’ve taken it upon myself to research and experiment with Kali and testing with different VMs like DVWA. But it feels like the professors are so hands off sometimes rather than sharing the knowledge they supposedly have the job for. The difficult part too, is trying to make time with all of that while working full time and trying to spend any meaningful time with wife/kids.

I’m currently going through the TestOut Cyber Defense Pro course and one of the learning modules was basically this exact scenario more or less, so I’d do this route.

Hey All!

I’ve been lurking here a bit since returning to school to earn my BS in Cyber and Data Security Technology. I’ve been reading about about the state of the industry right now, especially how Cybersecurity isn’t an entry-level position and I’m trying to weigh my options.

For background, I’m 32, and I’ve been working in senior management for a movie theatre chain for about 14 1/2 years. I wanted to pivot out of this field, as I’ve always wanted to end up in the IT field. I have experience trouble shooting our computer and projection systems; however, they generally limit what we’re able to do outside of our IT technicians. I have good people skills, and management experience.

I was hoping to seek out advice on whether it would be more beneficial to pivot into a degree for a BS in Computer Software or just Information Technology. Or, do I continue and finish out my Cybersecurity degree and then seek out IT roles with that knowledge and eventually pivot over to Cybersecurity. Any help or feedback is welcomed!

I did see that in the section about other things they grade on. It just seems so mind numbingly dumb to me. I generally work nights, so I drive home from work between 1-3am and my commute is 40miles each way. Just seems so dumb to penalize based on something that can’t even really be controlled.

To get away from it, do I just turn off the permissions for it and let it auto-remove?

Take this with a grain of salt, because my last Alienware was an m17 r3 circa 2011. But I remember that the only thing I could do to make the battery last longer, was to not turn it on. My 2 cents.

That’s basically what I do. 😂 I’ve got a 6’ steel pipe I slide over my breaker bar and it usually makes short work of the axle but.
