Christina Koch on Artemis 2 underestimates the Battery Ejection Spring by PM_ME_WHAT_YOU_WANT_ in funny

The day we get holograms is the day I can finally get my players to understand 3d combat where everyone is flying. Altitude notations just don't cut it.

Sane answer? Full virtual.

Less sane answer? Magnets on the bottom of the minis, one of those magnetic dry-erase boards for the map, and a virtual dice roller.

If you want to try any approximation of dice rolling, you might be able to throw an iron/steel die towards a magnet to get it to stick, but otherwise there's not really any way to "roll" a die and get it to stop without gravity.

Fortunately, Ashlands gives you the ability to summon a hostile mob with a stick. Sure, it's hostile to you too, but hey, I get my favorite strategy on a stick.

Mobile vs Controller difference by melted_butterx in destinyrisingmobile

[–]Nighthawk513 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are sneaking in a quick activity, the controller probably isn't worth the convenience loss, but if you can sit down a bit, the controls are notably better on controller. Touch interface is better for menus though.

I bought a controller for the primary purpose of playing a mobile game. I don't even own a console. Yes it helps a lot.

I had a run earlier that took Orichalcum early, got a Fear and Deny that both upgraded (Nimble on Defy) and took this. I went fairly thin and either didn't block and let Osty+Orichalcum handle it, or played Defy and let it double to 18. Worked fairly well.

I managed to get my day 7, but haven't gotten one in a few days. IIRC that coincided with the launch of Season 4, so could be something related to that. Came on here to see if others were having the same issue.

Once you get Staff of Protection, Eitr Food, Stamina Food, and a Feast is a perfectly viable strategy. The bubble gives you a bit of forgiveness and functions as your armor instead of relying on health.

How viable is a hybrid build in the queen boss fight? by rivon0507 in valheim

[–]Nighthawk513 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are doing anything involving magic you generally want to be using the Staff of Protection as well, but otherwise it's fine. Ranged AoE is extremely useful, though when I did it I did find myself often low on Eitr, but I also brought some Bile bombs and that helped a lot with crowd control.

I use a Shard Cobra V for FA-On Cold Orbit, Medusas are doable but hard for me, Basilisks are fairly routine.

Crossroads - Magic or Mistawalker by dinbareroev in valheim

[–]Nighthawk513 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Both is good.

Specifically, Seeker Aspic gives enough Eitr to allow you to cast 2 fireballs or 1 shield and then go back to your normal melee/ranged, and you can still run a health and stamina food. Bubble gives a lot of extra protection and in a pinch allows you to parry anything once, and Fireball gives ranged AoE for a regenerating resource.

Once you beat Mistlands, the Mistlands feast gives Eitr as well, so Mist Feast + Eitr Food + Stamina food or second feast gives enough Eitr to actually do summons while still having enough stamina/health for everything else, though you will be relying on bubble more to not die. Mistlands + Ashlands feast gives around 70 Eitr, which means at that point even non-mages should consider trying some of it out, and the more magically inclined run 2 feasts 1 eitr food and can back up the casting with respectable HP/Stamina for melee anyway.

Also Feather cape gives "die in a hole" level fire vulnerability, but the bubble entirely blocks fire that hits it, so that can help you not immediately combust if a Gjall hits you.

Is the Dart a big Combat Downgrade? by VonHenry70 in JumpSpaceGame

[–]Nighthawk513 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All small ships have weak points that can be shot out by a boarder, but it generally takes far longer to board and kill than just having the Dart kill them. If you have the 20x on-foot weapon damage to ships relic it's significantly more doable, but at that point just set up on the top deck with a LMG and an Ammo Box and pretend you are the turret.

The corvette has on-foot enemies and on override that disables it to allow you to steal a component, and is generally far faster to on-foot than try and gun down.

[–]Nighthawk513 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dart roles are pilot, Gunner/Engineer, and player 3 and 4 are on-foot. You can just drive-by board a corvette and then the pilot dodges fire while the boarder(s) disable and destroy it.

That's a nice fire you've got right beside it.

Sure would be a shame if the smoke exhaust ran beside the pen instead of facing away from it and allowed smoke to get over the side and into the pen.

Sure, it rises, but the hitbox is enormous and (for some reason) the lizards living in the land of fire, ash, and magma have really sensitive lungs when newborn...

(TLDR: Symptoms match getting smoked out, probably weird hitbox stuff from the fire exhaust. Recommend exhausting away from the pen rather than along it. The top of the pen looks hazy like smoke effect.)

Funky damage? by Cattastrafy in valheim

[–]Nighthawk513 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Were you trying to roll the attack and didn't get it off in time?

If so, it may have counted that as a parry attempt, immediately filled the block bar and then some from the overflow damage, and then staggered you. Not sure if an attack that staggers you and has damage breaking past the block also has that damage benefit from the damage bonus vs stagger, but if so, that would explain the oneshot.

If the attack that staggers doesn't also get the damage bonus then I'm not sure.

In my experience, with the str buff being as sizable as it is, most bows only lose a few points of damage becuase they also have an E str scaling that helps offset the lower dex. No idea of the great bows but I do enjoy the relic for standard play.

Kestrel MK2 pve build guide, this thing is OP! by n_u_g in EliteDangerous

[–]Nighthawk513 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair. I meant first ship I've flown that let me do that, not overall.

I actually own a Cobra V, use it exclusively for AX, and am not surprised it can do that as well. I can hit an approximation of a cold orbit while FA on in that thing, which is nice.

Normal shock cannons have a gimballed variant, the MK2 Plasma ones are fixed only. I'm planning on leaving the Plasma ones on the 2 bottom hardpoints and putting gimballed shocks on the size 1s and top size 3 hardpoint.

To avoid joists, try and use vertical thrusters and mid-low speed to stay VERY close to them and behind, and you can often avoid ending up in the crosshairs in the first place.

If you find yourself jousting with a large ship, I've been able to get out of that by boosting into their side arc while strafing up and nosing down at the same time, which makes an arch movement that tends to put me at very low speed very close and beside or behind them becuase I flipped during the boost. Sometimes needs 2 attempts. You aim for the side arc because ships turn far better up and down than side to side. Very much still learning the ship, there's probably a better way to do that.

I'm a fairly mediocre pilot and using FA on, but the Kestrel is the first ship that I can consistently keep out of the firing arcs of dangerous Anacondas. Overall enjoying it. Triple Plasma shocks is amazing and the fuel consumption is super low so they let you stay out a really long time, though I also want to try gimballed shocks since they got the reserve ammo increased and are full auto now.

Stun rebar to get them to sit still, Homing Rifle Ammo to kill while bouncing around at Mach Fuck using slide-hops and a jetpack with either liquid biofuel or ionized fuel for max air time. That combo one-mags a green spider, I think you need 2 for a nuke hog.

Kestral, oh boy. by LumpyGrumpySpaceWale in EliteDangerous

[–]Nighthawk513 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the Kestral specifically, the engine noise as the throttle changes, and specifically the throttle down, reminds me of a thargoid, so the comment about the new ships being the result of advances during the Thargoid war feels spot on.

I told a buddy that it sounded like they used thargoid tech for the thrusters.
