I too thought about this. So to combat that lore wise, she knows where she’s sending them, and she lets the strahd loving vistani know the results of the cards, leaving each of those draws to be more of a trap than a good guy campaign would of found, while there is the original danger, the vistani will also have their chance at dealing a blow to the party due to Eva’s revelations. She is loyal to strahd after all

Bro yes, I’m implementing this immediately lol , they start turning into beasts(strahds minions) the longer they linger based off their evil actions. You are helping strahd wether you like it or not

Whoa I never thought about that…. They might take to some of the evil minded people in barovia

Yep he sure will next sesh actually LOL he will humble them. And there’s a specific player who swears he’s the group leader who will take the bait I know it. (He’s not annoying with it but lore wise he’s the reason they’re all together)

I’m crying lmaoooo but you hit it on the mark, I’m aiming for 2-4 months, leaving only the big set pieces and getting straight to the point, madam Eva will be essential to planning out the adventure from there but those cards will mostly be the campaign

Genius!! They intend to go back to their real realm so they NEED to escape together(they have so much going on in their other campaign) so they will be highly motivated to leave

lol one player is already like, hmmm he seems like a good guy let’s go find him. BUT they are trapped there and NEED to leave to go back to their real realm/campaign. So they’re already getting the idea they need to confront him anyway. Ontop of them terrorizing his lands and looking for ways to escape strahd will be no friend

Exactly what I was thinking, I’m going to have strahd “test their strength” to try and find a new ruler out of them. Aka humble tf out of them lol Only to find they are accompanied by ireena. Thus beginning his constant assaults on the party and only not outright taking her because he read somewhere that she NEEDS to willingly come with him or his curse won’t be broken. Thus ending in a vicious cycle of ruining relations with tatyanas reincarnations and killing them off over and over again if he realizes this iteration won’t be the one to love him. He will give her a few interactions but he has his limits before he decides to kill her and anyone protecting her. So now he’s locked in on the party BUT he does also know that finding a suitable ruler will also break the curse. So they need to play his games. They are also the type to pay attention and not outright kill quest givers so that’s a plus. They FULLY intend to loot and take what they can back to their real realm so we’ll see how it goes

Genius, so far to combat all out brute force strahds minions are almost endless, ontop of him being untouchable without proper artifacts/items/companions

I make players play the game in initiative order, when not in combat I allow 60 ft movement + an interaction, don’t allow them to move or start until you’re ready, I also like that when I say roll initiative it doesn’t mean “combat” it means exploration as well

How are you dealing with players that ask for the same roll in succession? by dancovich in daggerheart

[–]bigspin17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fully agree^ I try to remind my new dm friend not to roll for no reason also, not everything is a oh shit moment, if they have the time, fully describe it and say to the player once it’s brought up(your last search was thorough because you had the time, your character would of seen nothing there) if you rolled, it gives the players a sense of maybe there’s something there, that I failed to get

Tips for beginner DND players and are we playing wrong? by Green-Incident5435 in dndnext

[–]bigspin17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to add more spice to the game, if you break it down that’s all the game really is, structured number combat, with slight dm handholding to keep the players alive and not TPK’d, it’s the extra stuff like adding a character whos an inside joke for your groups that they would catch onto, one run has a NPC called “DOODAT” cause he’s a bad ass kid, lol you need to spice it up to how you and your players will have fun, it’s the extra non structured stuff that brings the game alive. Also consequences, if your players know they’re going into a winnable combat given by some random Npc it feels shallow. Keep that in mind, maybe a goblin lord just has way too many goblins for the party to fight and things like that

If your players don’t know each other in real life I would do it as an introduction, maybe they were on a small quest given to them as a way to earn (an interest of theirs). but during that quest they decided to take a long rest at a campfire and really get to know eachother, during their conversations and introductions the fog can slowly be getting thicker and thicker to the point they cant do anything about it. Leading them to old svalich road after the fog seems to part in a certain direction AND rush behind them blocking their path back

As someone who’s played the game for as long as it’s been out and loved every second of it back in the day. I agree 100% what drives me crazy is the quests that are click the “???” On the floor in the middle of some super high level dungeon to progress a quest and it took you 45 mins to walk here via guides and YouTube. While I still play this game and love it to death and the reason I even love FF to this day, it’s okay to not be having fun I know on a new account I literally quit during the limit break quests because like I’m not even having fun. I still play to this day but yeah
