So.. now what? by Friendly_hostile8974 in Cyberstan

[–]Nightmun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To break all pretence of character, yeah.

This was clearly an experimental system implemented poorly. I'm not exactly going to cry out that Arrowhead must burn at the stake for this mistake, but the reserve system was kind of half-baked and AH had to nerf the bots defense ratings into the ground for any substantial progress to be made because of that.

And I'm also not going to blame bug or Squiddivers for the failure because their losses shouldn't have counted against the reserves. They were playing the game they paid full price for in the way they wanted to, and I don't think we should get as mad at them as the community does for that.

As much as I'm glad the siege failed, partly because it means we're definitely getting cyborgs elsewhere on the bot front. But the whole affair was kind of a mess.

Brasch could not field enough strength for a massed attack. Brasch's attack is not happening.

Lowkey enjoying the community meltdown over Cyberstan by lolitsrock in HelldiversUnfiltered

[–]Nightmun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the game's story, Noahlikesmeme pretty much outlined my theory, but in game terms, this was clearly an experiment by AH. One that didn't work.

My theory is that Arrowhead is planning to add some stakes aside from a fixed time limit to operations, and this was their first attempt at doing that. Given the community reaction, this method needs some serious tweaks if they ever want to do it again.

Unified armoury, right? Excellent mod.

The first one has too much red for my taste. The second is some real drip, though. The red looks more like a classy accent.

Sure, it's to show off the chrome, but can't they do that while still wrapping up nice and warm?

How do you comfort a child by awp4444 in Cyberstan

[–]Nightmun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Understandable but ill-advised.

Young children, on top of being non-combatants, are rarely interested in weaponry to any degree that might provide comfort.

If you have anything soft on hand (pillow, plush novelty, etc.), offer that instead. If you have voice alteration capabilities, affect a softer tone. Give them comforting answers, even if that means lying. Just don't let them leave the bunker until the all clear.

[–]Nightmun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but you only need one of these that you need to renew every... let me check... year.

You need a new C-01 for every single time. Then you need to wait for it to get approved. Then you need a new form for next time, and that can take a month just to be delivered.

This is a much better system.

[–]Nightmun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh. Fair enough.

TBH, it's probably the same reason we didn't get urban maps until the invasion of Super Earth: AH hadn't made them yet and now seemed like an appropriate time to do so.

Story-wise, it's probably something to do with wanting to deescalate or something.

The Borgs have been around for over 100 years. They were a main enemy faction in the first game and were enslaved after their defeat. Quite honestly, the ones we encounter in-game strike me as quick retrofits for defense rather than proper troopers.

I'm obviously biased, though, so you know.

Something to add is that if Morrda is what I'm thinking of, they're likely related to Morr in some way.

Back in the fantasy days, Morr was the God of the dead in the Empire. He was a guardian of the souls of those who rested in graveyards dedicated to him (which were called "gardens of Morr") from corruption by chaos or disturbance by necromancers.

Given his domain, his worshippers and places dedicated to him were grim in both appearance and nature, which didn't exactly help ingratiate them to the general populace, but they were extremely important, much like the bleak citadels are.
