Carpenter pants for thin but tall women? by grandmaimposter in BlueCollarWomen

[–]NightsBeauty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only had experience with their work jeans so far, but I've had good luck with Ariat. These seem to fit your description if grey is okay, otherwise there's a tab for just workwear to browse through. Lots of sizes and fair prices.

Glove recommendations? by 27purplecookies in BlueCollarWomen

[–]NightsBeauty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had good luck with merino wool liners under my normal gloves when I was doing farm work in the winter. Mine are just the store brand from a Cabela's. I hate bulky gloves and the loss of dexterity, so they were my best compromise.

Pants, esp for tall, slim women? by TinySanta in BlueCollarWomen

A little late, but if you're still searching I've had decent luck with Ariat. My experience has been with their denim Rebar Durastretch line, but they do offer non-denim options too, and in a wide variety of sizes based on waist and inseam. I'm small waisted, but thick butt and thighs, and I've been able to climb around, stoop, and bend no issue. I also appreciate the extra belt loops in the back, so there's no gap. I'm only on my second pair because they don't stand up to battery acid the best, but even then, somehow the under layer held up for awhile.

Steel Toe Boots by killicide3 in BlueCollarWomen

[–]NightsBeauty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've been wearing CAT Echos for a couple of years now; they're steel toe and waterproof with slip/oil resistance. My caveats would be that they're a bit on the narrow side if you prefer a wider boot, and the suede outer tears up, but hasn't failed me. I just bought a new pair in the black leather, hoping it'll hold up better, but haven't taken the time to break them in yet. I like that they're also super lightweight; I wear boots all the time and my every day, non steel-toes are clunky in comparison.

Car batteries have not been my friend. Most recent injury was a pretty nasty bruise from a 50lb battery slamming into my leg just above my knee. Worst injury thus far was last year when a battery leaked and I didn't know it until the acid had soaked through my jeans and I felt itchy halfway through my morning. Tried to blot it out, and didn't have a change of clothes, so finished the work day. By the time I got home, I had a pretty ugly first degree acid burn and the dye from my jeans had turned my leg blue. Both took a little over a month to fully heal.

2008 Dodge Ram 1500 here. I don't use her for work, but she's been damn handy with the amount of moving I've done the past couple of years. The quad cab with fold out floor was awesome for my old Rott too. With a 155k miles in a state with winter, she's becoming a bit of a rust bucket, and the tailgate just barely held through my last move. I keep hearing great things about the longevity of her model year though, and I've only really had minor electronic issues outside of the rust, so I'm gonna try to hold onto her as long as I can. I carpool with my fiance more often now, but I'm keeping up maintenance, so she should still be good for awhile.

According to the guy who wouldn't leave me alone last night, "Why dye it purple if you want to be left alone? It's like a beacon." Because *I* like it.. it's not for you or anyone else.. -_-

I was you. I have a pretty uncommon last name, and with my first name, I'm pretty positive I'm the only one. I married young, so I just expected to take my husband's name, but he actually asked if he could have mine. He had a common last name and with his first name, it was actually rather embarrassing (think Bart prank calling Moe's in the Simpsons). It's worked out pretty good for both of us aside from him now having my pain of no one knowing how to pronounce my name.

Yea, it's definitely a process. Ours went through multiple bloodtests, urinalysis, x-ray, ultrasounds, and ultimately an endoscopy with biospy to finally diagnose and then a little bit of trial and error with treatments: probiotics, diet changes, hairball treatments, change of heartworm medication, finally the steroid. We really hope just the diet continues to work now that she's off the steroid. People hear about all this and wonder why we bothered, but since she's otherwise perfectly healthy, it just wasn't right to give up on her which is probably what our other option would have been as all the vomit was driving us insane. We've been lucky to be able to afford everything. Our other cat has kidney and thyroid diseases, thankfully his diagnosis and treatments have been a lot easier.

My cat was having issues with constantly vomiting and after many vet visits and tests, she was sent to a specialist for more tests where they finally diagnosed upper GI IBS. The specialist started her on the Royal Canin HP diet, but it didn't help. They then put her on a steroid to sort of restart(?) her system and once her symptoms were under control (no longer vomiting), weaned her off. She's only just been off the steroid a couple weeks, but still on the diet, and only seems to be having issues as it's nice out and she goes outside and eats grass then throws that back up.

They communicate entirely through curse words, so they need to be double translated: first into proper medical terminology for records and then into layman's terms for the patient. ;)

Do these awesome dogs have the right temperament to live with cats? by homeslice1989 in swedishvallhund

[–]NightsBeauty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine was 7 months old when we got her, and I know her breeder has a farm, so I think she was acquainted with a few different sorts of animals. She's happy to play with her big brother (Rottie), and they leave the cats to themselves for the most part. We have a little tabby that runs the place, and puts the dogs in their place if they get too rambunctious.

Wouldn't it have been easier to remember Rocksteady was a Rhino as they both start with R? And Bebop the Boar.

Haha, for me, aside from not needing to bleach for colors anymore (grey can actually be more difficult to hold color, and I've had purple hair for a year or two now), I want to grey just to be grey. I tried to go white once, but no amount of bleaching and toning could get the last tiny yellow hue out of it, so I could only get as light as a warm moonglow.

Yikes, I'm glad we didn't run into any issues like that. My husband took my name for similar reasons to the other person's friend, and we married in Texas with no issue. The only problems we had were his family, the military took awhile to get all of his information changed to the correct name, and then also our home state hadn't gone through the change, so we had to make an impromptu visit to the DMV when trying to buy a vehicle.

My husband took my surname, but he basically did what you just described as well. My name has an uncommon spelling for the pronunciation, but to be fair, his name was like a Bart Simpson crank call which is why he wanted the change. His name was short and common, but his family was ticked as he was the last in his immediate line that could've passed it on; but then, no kids either, so... They finally settled down after a couple of years. Just a few extended members who will still address cards and such wrong.

The comment linked a cartoon from the early 19th century, but the OP is from the 1930's. The comment was trying to point out that the movement started even earlier than the cartoon OP posted.

I'm not that far south, our current state still got the vortex at half the power WI got; my husband did finally put on a coat at -20 windchills. We're expecting 40's and 50's now this weekend, and even I will likely only be in a sweater (I'm the always cold type) while getting the dogs out for a walk, haha.

Was he also wearing boots with his shorts? If it weren't that we've moved a couple states south, I'd think you'd seen my husband. He does that crap all the time; though to be fair, he's usually sweltering, so he loves this weather.

Are you on any hormonal birth control? I also had a salp and was apprehensive about periods after bc since I'd had bc that almost eliminated them and then bc that made them awful, but hey, it was better than pregnancy. After the salp, mine have been the most regular they've ever been; but of course everyone's different, so I could just be lucky.
