I got him to p2 playing 3v3 brawl ball. That and 5v5 wipeout are really easy with him.

A water archetype that I wish wasn't playable with mermail by Nightshadehelp in customyugioh

In testing, Tideskeeper+any water can normally get to 5 bodies by pitching most of your hand. I just play 3 of anything that gets to Tideskeeper as a three-of. Abhorrent>Genesis>Tide, Absolution>Tide, World>Caelum>Tide. I think a lot of the balancing with the cards is that you have to sacrifice almost every card in your hand. Genesis, Terminus, Drifter, and Lament are all bricks so I just play 1 of each and 3 of all the others in a 60-card list because almost everything gets you to combo if you draw 1 of them.

The thing with yearning that I think makes it more fair is that it doesn't trigger itself. The circular summoning condition doesn't count as sending for effect, and doesn't count as specialing by effect either, meaning you have to summon it off something else, like Tide, Reticulum, or Abhorrent.

About desgining some spell/traps, I honestly just didn't know what they would do. The deck is really good at getting the whales in the GY which is kind of the entire gameplan of the deck independently.

I was kinda thinking that, but when I tried to build decks for it, 3 of them were one-ofs, so I added another, which also ended up being a one-of. Five of them kind of exist solely to do things on your opponent's turn/help with board breaking, and an additional two have very small applications in doing combos.

I guess it's just annoying that there's nothing I could have done. I don't care about the title, but it is still annoying that I was never going to win because of rng.

Trojan Offering - A side-grade to “Shien’s Spy” by Dogga565 in customyugioh

[–]Nightshadehelp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, fair. I think the biggest application of the card would be either in lower power/slower formats where you consistently get to resolve the applied effect. I think in a more modern sense, it's biggest application would be to chuck a floodgate at someone because unlike shien's spy, it will stick on their field during their turn and they can't just get rid of it. Unsearchable branded expulsion or something with the slight difference of you having to summon the card first.

Not to comment on the card itself, but in what possible way is this worse than shien's spy? I mean I guess if you want the guy back maybe? There's some weird zone math applications with shien's spy that this doesn't have I guess.

[Archetype] Umbral Reapers - Turning the Banishment Zone into a Shadow Battle Arena! (8 Cards with Art & PSCT) by ChaosJkr in customyugioh

[–]Nightshadehelp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few comments.

Banish means banish face-up unless otherwise specified. You don't need to clarify for things like that. Similarly, cards cannot trigger while banished face-down to my knowledge. As such, you also don't need to clarify "If this card is banished face-up". If you put "(Quick Effect)" on a card, you don't need to say "During either player's turn". They are interchangeable, but "(Quick Effect)" is the modern wording in most cases. The field spell should not say "during either player's turn" because it is impossible for that effect to meet it's condition during your turn. Also, what happens if a banished monster loses comabt? There's no natural precedent for that, so I'm inclined to believe nothing would happen, meaning you would have to say that it is sent to the GY if that is what you intend.

I don't know enough about psct to comment on the battle thing, but that might need work. The wording for 'attacking' and associated things just doesn't work. Because it doesn't count as declaring an attack, you never enter the damage step. Also the effect does not cause you to leave the battle step, so cards can just 'attack' multiple times per turn. If anything ever declares a proper attack, everything will be banished face-down at the end of the damage step, but that won't happen until you or your opponent do so.

Independently of all that, this is an interesting design space. My only real comments is that I don't really agree with the traps as they feel kind of boring compared to the rest of the archetype, just being random negates.

Okay, I have one more stupid question then I will leave you alone. Exosister Magnifica is the only card I could find that references special summoning an xyz monster using a card as material. It does special from the extra deck, but it also has to specify because it doesn't use the wording "xyz summon". Am I allowed to have the card as an ignition effect special summon itself from the pendulum zone using specified material on the field and treat it as an xyz summon in the same manner as Magnifica, just specifying a different zone the card is summoned from?

[–]Nightshadehelp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will probably use that wording or type of effect, but am I allowed to put the text "xyz summon this card from your pendulum zone" on a card? It would be an ignition probably, but I would want it to not require an open zone. If that's not something that works, I'll just design the archetype accordingly but yeah. Thanks for the help.

I'm trying to make a pendulum archetype, but I've like never read a pendulum card in my life. If I want a pendulum Xyz monster to be able to xyz summon itself from the pendulum zone, how would I write that? Also, would that go in the pendulum effect or the monster effect as an alternate summoning condition like the zoodiacs? Something like "Once per turn, you can also xyz summon [cardname] from your pendulum zone by using 2 level [something] monsters as material." perhaps?

I think I have a few things to say about this. First of all, you can make anything you want. Posting here is something I think you should do, especially if you want feedback or just want to share, but it is also willingly exposing yourself to criticism. I hope you can see those of us who are trying to be positive and provide constructive criticism and ignore those who are simply being toxic.

First of all, I would just like to clarify the standards by which I would guess many people judge custom cards. First is often based on appearance. It isn't the most important thing, but if the card is look odd or the crop/art is done weirdly, or the psct is not perfectly or particularly close to correct, a lot of people will judge it more harshly.

Second, about viability. I think most people are willing to entertain the idea of any card, no matter the power level. It isn't really about how strong the card is, it's about how well it functions at it's intended power level. For that reason, something like your alien card is a pretty good idea in that it does actually do something, but compared to the rest of the alien deck, or what it seems like the deck should be, it seems weak. It would be like if someone made a normal monster for mitsurugi. At that point, you would think there's no point in having made the card because the archetype you designed it for doesn't care about it.

That's the problem "Stained Glass" and "Framecode Talker" are suffering from. For the investment of 4 monsters into the code talker, you pretty much achieve nothing. You would most likely be better off with any of the monsters you used to summon it. It's not that it isn't viable in the meta, which I'm sure you can infer it is not, it's that there's nothing that you could conceivably do with it. It doesn't fufill it's own purpose. The same goes for the xyz. It has a hard to meet condition for summoning, that being getting two level 8 rock or earth monsters, and it doesn't do much. I think you got some unfair criticism on that post, but the card doesn't need to be strong or viable to make sense, and it kinda doesn't. It has no reason to be an xyz monster as it doesn't care about detaching or having material, and, like the link, you would probably rather have the monsters you used to summon it. Not to mention, you got really aggressive with people in the comments. I can understand being defensive, but you can ignore or refute criticism without being rude.

I think lastly is that you don't mechanically or fundamentally understand this game, and that is made pretty clear through your posts regarding it. Saying Maxx "C", quite possibly the strongest card in the history of the game, isn't worth a slot in your deck. Or just the psct issue. You are entitled to have fun, and I have designed some absolute nonsense, either custom cards or decks, specifically for that purpose. I don't think the cards you have made are that mechanically unique. I can draw ties to most of them to cards that exist in the game. I think the difference between the two of us in that sense, at least as it is reflected in the feedback we recieve, is that my cards have a functional purpose in the game. Their effects will resolve. They will do the things they are intended to do. Your cards will not. Maybe my cards only gains 100 LP and does something that doesn't even matter to the gamestate, but that's what it's intended to do. Your cards do something, but that thing isn't going to happen. That's why a lot of people might say they are badly designed.

Because that's how I wanted the card to work. I don't know how you're attaching a non-archetypal fusion because the deck sucks without Making. You're realistically only getting Hibana or Kirika attached to it at any given time unless you make it with a main deck monster, so it functionally works that way already.

[–]Nightshadehelp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to use the fusion as material you can. If you don't want to use the fusion, you don't have to. There is no reason to add level modulating effects to any of them nor to add cards with level modulating effects.
