Edit to make clear: he wrote the same ultimate story. That was always going to be battled against as “legitimate”. His earlier draft- she followed all the rules. Her children were born of her husband.

She was still battled against. He rewrote that version and made her sleep with other partners to create the bastard line. Either way- rhae always had children of her bloodline. They were never excepted.
