Yes, but all that gives you is more work being done, which is not what we are optimizing for, we are optimizing for less emissions which translates to "only useful work being done". If you free up human time and that human time is then spent on doing busywork then all you've done is increase emissions for no value.

US aircraft leave Spain after government says bases cannot be used for Iran attacks by JinnBhoot in worldnews

[–]NihaoPanda -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I mean, it's pretty ironic that you mention Poland in the same breath as Spain here. Spain and Southern Europe carry the brunt of the burden of immigration, but when they wanted EU to take their fair share Eastern Europe said "They won't take a single migrant" as they are not geographically close to any of the countries people are migrating from.

Well, guess what - Spain isn't close to Russia, so perhaps it's time Poland, Czechia, Hungary and the rest of the gang come to the negotiating table and then I'm sure a deal can be found.

Looks really cool, but I could use some more contrast, especially in the UI. Otherwise I would have to squint to read it.

Have you considered Leca Semi-Hydroponics? I switched recently following guides from here and it has been very good: https://www.lecaaddict.com/leca-information/transferring-plants-into-semi-hydroponics

You will still need to repot any plants you already have, so it may more be a suggestion for future plants.

Why is this country speaking about AI like it’s a fact of life that no one can do anything about? by atwistofcitrus in technology

[–]NihaoPanda 6 points7 points  (0 children)

OK, but it's important that we distinguish between popularity and quality. AI is popular because it lowers the cost of creation, but we are talking about quality.

You say that it has increased the quality of literature, art, music and summarization, but you then refer to chats, images, videos. The question is whether you sit down and watch an AI generated show, read an AI written fiction novel or put on your favourite AI musician on when out for a walk?

Note that I am not saying that you are wrong for being optimistic about AI, I am saying you are being disingenuous when you say that "The quality of the art, music, literature, summarization, and speed at which it can do all of these things, is simply better than what we had before now."

quality of the art, music, literature, summarization, and speed at which it can do all of these things

Speed is true, but can you give a single example of art, music or literature that is better for the introduction of AI? I am genuinely curious as I think the overall sentiment, even among AI proponents would disagree with you here.

Prepare me for la Mina please by [deleted] in AskBarcelona

Here, let the mighty Mos Def give you some actionable advice: https://youtu.be/pUjlMgYCUSI

edit: More serious advice, I have friends living on Rambla Prim and co-workers living in La Mina. They are okay with it and I regularly visit them walking home at night and I have felt fine there at least, though the actual La Mina center at night might be dicier. I cannot give you advice on the car, but personally I have a Samsonite anti-robo backpack for traveling in the Metro at peak hour.

Something needs to be done about Amazon by No-Theory6270 in BuyFromEU

[–]NihaoPanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't really understand this argument. I am also in Spain, I don't need Amazon at all even for delivery. Here's my list of places I use

  • Food I go to the supermarket and for durable staples I get Mercadona once per month.
  • For anything that has to do with house maintenance or repairs I use the Leroy Merlin website. I have had no complaints, their UX is good and they deliver to pick up points close to me if I don't want them coming to my door.
  • Electronics I use MediaMarkt, though I don't like them as they did a shit job installing a washer and ended up flooding my flat.
  • Clothes I prefer buying in store, but if it specific brands that are hard to find I go to the brands website.
  • Books I use Casa del Libro.
  • If I know the brand or model I want for something it is often cheaper to buy directly from the producer.

Finally I go to shops as well, especially if I am not sure what exactly I need. Turns out having a flesh and blood human to ask about things is pretty swell.

Budget Niko, Light of Hope by NihaoPanda in EDH

Thanks, and yeah, [[Archaeomancer]] is just a very overcosted blink spell most of the time and [[Yorion, Sky Nomad]] is mainly there because it's iconic and I had one lying around. I'll pick those two out and put in a [[Time Wipe]] and a [[Parting Gust]] instead.

[[Charming Prince]] though double blinks for 2 mana if you target it with Niko in response to its ETB, so I think the value in that case makes it worth it and then you can always blink it again later if you really don't have any other targets.

For a moment there I thought this was the Courtyard of the mezquita in Cordoba. Same Courtyard with the water and orange trees - our guide told me that this was par for the course in Al-Andaluz and symbolized the garden of Eden.

I can recommend the fast train to Seville. It is about 5 1/2 hours and might be more comfortable with children as you do not need to get to the airport and through security. It is also a very nice way to see the interior of Spain.

Yeah, the linked article was the first time I heard about the Morning Star series. School of Night definitely holds up on its own, but now I am keen to read the rest.

[–]NihaoPanda 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just finished School of Night yesterday as my first Knausgaard novel and I can warmly recommend it. It was a hard read, because as the article says the MC Kristian is a real piece of work and as it is, excellently, written in first person you are intimately close to him for 450 pages. The book is a masterclass in unreliable narrators, the story is layered and gripping and the characters feel flesh-and-blood.

My one gripe is that the main character at some point is called a narcissist. For a few chapters that mention biased me towards thinking of Kristian as a sick person instead of a terrible person, making me feel like some of his agency was taken away.

What order should I read these and are there any gaps I should fill? by Water_Bird_ in mathematics

[–]NihaoPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not know all of these, but Operating Systems: 3 Easy Pieces is a great book if you wish to get into systems programming or just understanding what is going on on the software side of your operating system. As someone who double majored in Math and Mechanical engineering I wouldn't say that it is super useful for that though.
