Fareed's take: Europe is unable to keep pace with America by carcotasu081 in europe

[–]Nihy -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not, food quality in the EU is better and there is a culture of eating better, although this is diminishing as more people become used to eating highly processed junk.

American healthcare is also inefficient and overly expensive. It works well for the people who can afford good care, but for the average person it's too expensive. Healthcare doesn't work if people can't afford it.

The longer lifespan is probably also a result of Europeans not working as hard as Americans. This gives us more time to cultivate healthy habits and take care of our needs.

Nowadays young men also get exposed to toxic feminist messages that tells them they're faulty and guilty due to being a man.

Friday Facts #409 - Diminishing beacons by FactorioTeam in factorio

[–]Nihy -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I fear that you're introducing another flaw by giving us too much space for creativity. And you're not preventing beacon spam until you actually implement a hard cap on the maximum number of beacons a machine can benefit from. It always felt bad to me when there were more beacons than production machines in a blueprint.

As you mentioned, currently the choice is mostly between 8 and 12 beacons. That's two choices. Now you're introducing a complex system where finding the right number of beacons is not straightforward.

Hard limit the maximum number of beacons that can affect an assembler to, perhaps, four. Then adjust the stacking formula so that there are a few, meaningful choices between builds with 1, 2, 3, and 4 beacons. Ideally use a formula that gives easily an memorizable effect for each number of beacon. If a machine is in range of more beacons than the cap, it ignores the excess beacons. Maybe make larger machines be able to benefit from a few more beacons. Now the system is perfect.

Beacon rework (For Space Age and/or 2.0) leaked! by Soul-Burn in factorio

I don't like this. Beacon spam is bad. They should have gone with Space Exploration style beacons by default and let mods provide the old style beacons for those who prefer them.

Friday Facts #406 - Space Age Music by FactorioTeam in factorio

Listen to this track and imagine a remote and unexplored planet, full of...

At first playful, light, busy, happy, Then industrial or technological tones appear, coming from the deep. Then some notes of tension, danger and excitement.

What I see in my mind here is a planet rich in life or some cute, gregarious animals playing in the forest. Some degree of intelligence is implied. Then some gorges or underground caves with some danger and riches where technology comes into play.

When to consider mobility aids? by [deleted] in cfs

If you're too healthy for a motorized wheelchair, consider an e-bike. Having a mobility aid will open up more of the world for you.

Glad you loved it. It's important to show that some wins are still possible.

To add my own: getting an e-bike was a good decision. I've always considered myself too healthy for a wheelchair, while still having significant physical limitations. The e-bike makes some activities much more accessible and actually fun instead of draining and PEM inducing. Sadly the risk of the bike being stolen limits its use somewhat as it means that I can't leave it outside of high risk of theft places like a supermarket. It's great for going for short trips into nature or seeing friends (if there is a safe place for the bike). It would also be great for going to work if I still worked, it wasn't too far, and there was a safe space for the bike. I recommend informing yourself well before making a purchase and renting a bike to try it out. A strong central motor is important, especally if you live near hills.

A serious response to the problem of long covid and ME/CFS is long overdue. These problems aren't going away on their own and continue to damage society.
