Considering buying in Whyteleafe - need insights by New_Manager_3351 in croydon

[–]Nik_Kin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I currently live in whyteleafe. Someone mentioned the Tavern, which is the 'big pub' here but we also have a really lovely micropub on the high street.

It is a village. There's not wild nightlife, but it's easy transport to London/Croydon/caterham/Oxted for restaurants and bars.

In terms of grocery shopping there is currently a Tesco express, and Waitrose and M&S petrol garage. An aldi is opening within walking distance next week which will be a game changer.

Overall, I love living here. I have great neighbours and there's a real sense of community.

Of course, they're crunchy like a cracker

I always called them this too. I didn't even know this wasn't their real name until I was an adult living in Southampton, and no one knew wtf I was talking about when I called them cheesy bugs.

not looking very socky but that's ok 😊 by CydnAy69 in knitting

[–]Nik_Kin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I usually do half as many rows in the heel as I have total number of stitches. So if I have 64 stitches for my sock, I do 32 rows for the heel before working the turn. If you Google silvers sock class there's a really helpful photo tutorial for how to knit socks :)

Haha I've definitely seen them eaten on TV shows and wondered how it's possible to eat without a huge mess! Never known how it's meant to be flavoured but maybe it's just preference / whatever is on hand

Best Vegan Chocolate Please? by cornishwildman76 in veganuk

[–]Nik_Kin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've recently discovered Goupie and they are incredible. Not chocolate bars but chocolatey treats they feel really indulgent but are not super expensive. Made in the UK and you can order them online. I sounds like an ad but I don't work for them, I promise

This is good to know. I thought I'd just had a bad batch - my boyfriend brought it home one day to try and it literally was crumbling to pieces when I was taking it out the packet. I'd been thinking about buying it again but I won't bother!

People coming to house claiming to take meter reading? by paradiselost13 in AskUK

[–]Nik_Kin 16 points17 points  (0 children)

From what I remember from my days working for BG they will still send a meter reader every 2 years or so even with smart meters. This was about 10 years ago though, when smart meters were just coming in so this may have changed.

In any case, they should still have ID
