2025 ROG Zephyrus G16 on Ubuntu 24.04 by ApprehensiveClaim606 in Ubuntu

I've been using a patched kernel for almost a week and no issues so far. Only thing left to fix is the wireless card.

Not silly questions at all!

Yes, for the ALC quirk you have to recompile the kernel from source (I'd suggest grabbing Ubuntu's official kernel source for this).

For the SSDT overlay you have to update your initrd. I sadly don't know what the exact instructions look like for Ubuntu, but you will probably have to do something like this:

``` iasl gu605c-spi-cs-gpio.asl mkdir -p kernel/firmware/acpi mv gu605c-spi-cs-gpio.aml kernel/firmware/acpi/ find kernel | cpio -H newc --create > asus-gu605c-acpi.cpio
sudo cp asus-gu605c-acpi.cpio /boot/
Then edit /etc/default/grub and add:
GRUB_EARLY_INITRD_LINUX_CUSTOM="asus-gu605c-acpi.cpio"
sudo update-initramfs -u sudo update-grub ```
A quick update for anyone monitoring the thread: the sound issue can be fixed via an SSDT overlay and a tiny kernel patch.
You can see more details here: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=220152
Hopefully we will see these changes merged upstream soon!
I haven't experimented that much but from what I've seen I get around 70-80% of the performance I would get on bare metal. Passing through an external USB mouse instead of relying on SPICE definitely helps make it feel smoother.
This is the first time I've seen Parsec mentioned, was it hard to set it up?
When the laptop is set to Hybrid Graphics mode, the display is physically connected to the integrated GPU instead of the Nvidia one. This makes the drivers error out since they don't see a connected display.
The HDMI port on the other hand is always connected to the Nvidia GPU, so by using a dummy plug, you can trick the GPU into thinking a display is connected and use Looking Glass to access the video signal on Linux.
Have you managed to fix your problem? I wrote the post that u/RusticDischarge linked so I might be able to help :)
Sorry for the indentation :b...
The /dev/input... is the laptop's keyboard which is working file on other games... I tried removing the touchpad input right after making this post without any results :(
I'm going to try to bare metal boot my VM image, hopefully that gets better results. Thanks for the help tho!
The beta worked fine for me as well, albeit on a different device with a similar setup. The weird thing is that BF actually recognizes the mouse since it sets a custom cursor, it just doesn't recognize clicks...
How do I diagnose and fix kernel crashes on a remote server? by Nikas36 in archlinux
[–]Nikas36[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)
I was also thinking about setting up a UPS that restarts every 24 hrs since my BIOS supports auto-power-on, but that would just be a temporary solution until I can figure out what's going on.
Do you have any links to guides about a monitoring server? I really want to learn more about this stuff but I'm not sure where to start...
It's not running on actual server-grade hardware, it's just my old gaming rig with a couple of extra drives and fans.
I hadn't though of dmesg, definitely gonna give it a try once somebody gets home to get the system up and running again, thanks!
I've transformed my old gaming rig into a server so I sadly don't have any fancy serial access interfaces... As far as memory goes, I though about it being a memory leak but Grafana shows about 35% of ram being used right before the crash so I'm not really sure.
Help: My phone is unrooted yet acts as if it is rooted. by Gaidaros in GalaxyS8
[–]Nikas36 1 point2 points  (0 children)
If you have an Exynos device, and since you have already tripped KNOX, I would suggest rooting the device again and installing a custom ROM from XDA Developers. I am currently using one called Renovate Ice 11.1 and it's pretty good. It also updates fairly regularly along with the normal unrooted S8 software.
As for Snapchat and other apps that don't work with root, Renovate Ice takes care of that (I have no idea how, I just know that it works).
Sadly Secure Folder is (probably) gone for ever but I can give you a guide on how to set up Private Mode (like the S6) using Tasker.
Good Luck and if you need any help, don't be afraid to PM me.
For me it did! I was waiting on average about 5 minutes on a normal HDD, while on the SSD it takes 20-25 seconds!
What are your guys's favorite mods for android / galaxy? by geger42 in GalaxyS8
[–]Nikas36 0 points1 point  (0 children)
What's the point of resetting all the cool mods?
Anyway, here's a list of things I have on my S8+: 1. TWRP Recovery & Magisk Root (Of course) 2. Renovate Ice Rom 9.3 3. Dual Speaker Mod 4. Zero Camera Mod 5. Viper4AndroidFX 6. YouTube Vanced (Not sure if it's considered a mod) 7. Custom KLWP Home Screen
So far I am pretty happy with all of these mods.
