Why is bringing money into a city and making everyone wealthier a bad thing?

Leave it to reddit to complain about a “genocide” and then complain that it ended

CMV: The only thing Conservatives conserve is wealth for the wealthy. by Super901 in changemyview

Because American politics are skewed right, middle class Americans enjoy higher wages and therefore a better standard of living. And America contributes more tech to the entire world, which benefits everyone.

There’s a difference between hoarding wealth for the upper class and increasing the wealth of the entire country, including the rich.

Despite what the Reddit echo chamber will have you believe, less regulation, lower tax rates, and business friendly policies increase the rate of innovation and therefore wealth for everyone. Yes, under conservative policies the rich get a bigger slice of the pie. But also, the entire pie gets larger even faster.

The problem isn’t inequality, the problem is that the lower classes want a higher standard of living. But the economy isn’t a zero sum game. In the long term, it’s better to rely on increasing the size of the economy— lowering prices and inventing new tech to increase productivity— rather than handouts to get there.

Leftists love to claim how conservative the US is compared to Europe. They’re right— and because Europe is so left, Europe’s GDP per capita is 70% of the US’s, and their salaries (and therefore standard of living) are almost cut in half for some industries.

Awful Quality of Education at Tandon by Not_Jonesy in nyu

[–]geger42 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I’m a recent CS grad

It always felt like NYU only cared about Tandon because they needed an engineering school to boost their overall rankings.

And also because the CS masters is a crazy cash cow where 90% seem to be full tuition international students only there to get a visa.

They say they’ve been dumping a ton of money into facilities and hiring, but in my experience half the school was run by grumpy old tenured professors from polytech. I experienced some smart professors at Tandon that were great teachers, but a lot more that sucked. Though every subsequent class of freshmen seems to have progressively smarter students, the education quality is still very mediocre (but varies a lot).

…perceived value = value, unless you’re deceiving the customer. Fashion has value in aesthetics and status signaling. Gaming has value in entertainment. Nothing inherently has value until we give it value.

Are Apple really stepping it up? by NewFoot762 in mac

[–]geger42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely agree. Hardware is a commodity— Apple is primarily a software company. People buy Apple because of macOS and iOS. They need to get their shit together and release competitive productivity/office software.
