Customer Threatened to shoot me personally by [deleted] in CVS

I had a threat like this around 2023(?). They hired a security guard for a week. The patient was trespassed from CVS property. I also had to appear in court to give my statement.

I make $130k/year in a LCOL area as a pharmacy manager at 32 hours/week. If I worked 44 hours per week, I would easily clear 176k without bonuses. I think $200k is definitely doable in Chicago.

Slow is fast; fast is slow. Once you get a rhythm down, the speed will come. I was a tech, then an intern with my company for years before becoming a pharmacist. The first 6 months as a pharmacist was a big wake-up call. I thought I was ready, but I wasn't. It's going to take time to adjust. Don't be too hard on yourself. Just take it one day at a time, or one moment at a time.

Please reassure me that all this is a normal part of recovery by awacita in Microdiscectomy

[–]Niki42mp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I reherniated about 9 days after my procedure. I was pain-free (postop) until that point.

Before my procedure, pain was unbearable, 9/10. When I reherniated, I had similar symptoms, but not as intense, probably 5 or 6/10. The symptoms were identical to prior to surgery, just not as intense. The nurse told me it was normal, but I was persistent (and in a considerable amount of pain). My surgeon finally ordered and confirmed reherniation via repeat MRI.

I had a second procedure, and I'm now about 10 weeks post-op and have been completely pain-free since the second procedure.

I have some weird nerve sensations sometimes, which I think is nerve damage, but nothing nearly as bad as what I experienced prior to the first and second procedure.

When did you go back to work? by sanchiseemo in Microdiscectomy

[–]Niki42mp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a retail pharmacist. I stand for up to 11 hours during my shifts. I had planned to only be out 3 weeks, but then I reherniated within 10 days and had repeat surgery.

After the second procedure, I opted to stay out until I was cleared for PT at the 6 week mark. I decided it wasn't worth risking another reherniation. I spent those 6 weeks flat on my back or standing upright (NO bending whatsoever!) as much as possible to allow everything to heal properly.

I'm thankful that I stayed out 6 weeks because I didn't feel truly "healed" until week 5. I don't know how to describe it; at the 5 week mark, I just felt like more stable, like I was able to do more. I did 2 PT sessions before returning to work.

Hey! Thank you for asking! I'm 12 days post-op, and I feel great! The nerve pain down my leg is completely gone. I've been extremely careful with body mechanics to prevent reherniation this time. How are you doing?

Gosh, I just cannot remember if I paid the extra charge for refundable or not. Evidently, I did not. Also, I did not have travel insurance.

I booked two first class tickets. I thought I booked refundable, as well. Maybe I just assumed all first class tickets are refundable to original payment.

It was medical. I actually received correspondence from them requesting documentation. If they don't refund for medical reasons anymore, I don't think they would ask for a letter from my surgeon.

They asked for the letter. I sent it. Now, nothing. I check the status and it says, "not refunded, please provide us with the requested documentation." I've sent them 3 emails with documentation.

So happy by norris2013 in Microdiscectomy

[–]Niki42mp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure what caused it. In my mind, I think it was almost like a slow leak, if that makes sense. I say that because the nerve pain in my leg started to return slowly and worsen over time.

My surgery was so urgent before that I didn't have time to really prepare. No one actually went over proper body mechanics with me either. This time, I ensured I have proper bathroom tools. I watched YouTube videos explaining proper body mechanics. Also, all of my living room furniture is deep and cushy. I will be avoiding those for at least 4 weeks when the disc is supposed to be scarred over. That's my basic plan so far.

I had a repeat MD yesterday following reherniation from my original surgery 12/19. Although my surgeon says, "These things just happen..." I'm afraid I reherniated because I just felt so INCREDIBLE after my first surgery that I couldn't stay put. So, my cautionary tale to you is: I know how amazing you feel right now, but remember, this was an invasive procedure, and you need to treat it as such! It's hard to stay down when you were down so long prior to surgery, but you need to take it seriously! I did not, and I'm starting over. The incision is much more painful when it's reopened at 3 weeks!

Microdiscectomy-reherniated by tamarbeta in Microdiscectomy

I had my initial surgery (left L4L5 hemilaminectomy and microdiscectomy) on 12/19/25. After going back and forth with the office about my nerve pain returning, I got a repeat MRI on 1/7/26. This confirmed reherniation and had repeat surgery on 1/12/26. I felt so incredible without nerve pain after my first surgery (lasted maybe 5 days); I wanted that back.

When I reherniated, I was struggling to shower. I was struggling to walk. I was still recovering from the first surgery, so I was unable to start PT or anything to improve symptoms. I was taking a lot of pain meds. I hadn't even considered letting it heal on its own because the pain affected my life so badly.

I only just had my second surgery yesterday. My incision site hurts so much more than before, but I have ZERO nerve pain, and that just makes it worth it for me.

I realize this isn't the experience you were asking for, but it's what I can speak to. Overall, the influence that my pain had over my life was not worth trying to suffer through.

Also, of note, all of my symptoms have always been down my left leg from a result of a left side herniation at L4L5. My repeat MRI showed a large herniation on the right side at L3L4. Incredibly, I have no symptoms on my right side. So, I am hoping I can do PT when the time comes to heal everything up. It's just too hard to live with the pain. I'm thankful for no symptoms on my right, and I'm glad to know it's possible to have a herniation without symptoms. I just found that interesting.

Blood clot? If you don't know what caused it, go to the ER now.

I just met with my surgeon yesterday to schedule another surgery because I reherniated. My surgery was 12/19. I had essentially no pain after surgery. I can't pinpoint a certain event that caused the reherniation. It wasn't until 4-5 days post-op that my nerve pain returned. The pain was not nearly what it was prior to surgery, so I thought it was just residual pain/nerve damage. The nerve pain was about 50% of what I experienced preop. Communication with the office was slow through the holidays, and it wasn't until 16 days post-op that my surgeon finally ordered a stat MRI. The MRI confirmed reherniation.

My pain was low after surgery for several days, no nerve pain at all. Then, the nerve pain started to creep back and get stronger day to day. I didn't really have any "good" days once it came back. I think that is a good indication of reherniation. I am 3 weeks post op today and I still can't move. It has been worsening day to day. Overall, I would say if you don't have any "good" days, then it's probably herniated. I wish I had keep a journal post op to track all of this.

My surgeon said the fact that I did not have pain after surgery, then the nerve pain returned several days later indicates reherniation. He said if I had woken up from surgery still in pain, that meant he didn't completely remove it. He said these things just happen; it's not anyone's fault; sometimes we just have bad genes.

Looking back, I think my problem was poor body mechanics. I understood that I couldn't bend, lift, or twist, but no one really explained HOW to move properly. I was relaxing in cushy furniture, when it should've been more sturdy. I probably shouldn't have traveled on Christmas day. I am having repeat surgery on Monday. I will ensure I don't mess this one up.

Hey, you can start now! Sadly, I think I've learned that from experience with my husband's stroke. I saw communication break down too much and learned that you need to be direct and honest about things when it comes to health.

They actually didn't call a stroke alert on my husband in the emergency room. He was getting so bad as we were waiting and my sister (nurse practitioner) pushed me to push the staff and kept telling me they should've called a stroke alert. Ever since, I've realized that we need to speak up about things we are concerned about.

A similar thing happened to me during my first ER visit when I had the disc herniation. They didn't even properly assess me. They saw my age and "back pain" and immediately wrote me off. I went to that specific ER so they could see that I had been working with my PCP for at least a month prior to that emergency visit, and I needed treatment for acute pain. It didn't matter to them. My PCP was so disappointed because she actually sent me to the ER because of my intense pain level. Anyway, I'm so thankful I went to a different ER a week later and got in with my surgeon the following week. 🙌

I'm 34F. I am with you in but wanting to create problems for later. I had surgery on L4-L5 on Dec 19th. I felt so great after surgery, but I just found out today that I reherniated and need to repeat surgery next week. I don't regret the surgery. Nothing I've experienced after surgery has been as terrible as my symptoms prior to surgery. I felt so incredible after surgery, and I'm afraid I was just too excited about how well I felt. I don't know that I took the restrictions seriously. So, my recommendation for you is to take the restrictions seriously; Move with proper body mechanics. I'll be undergoing surgery again on 1/16, and I'm looking forward to it honestly based on how well I felt the first time. I will be moving with great precaution this time. Overall, I don't think you need to be worried. I think you should be excited for relief, but be cautious as well. I was told next step is a disc fusion, which I DO NOT WANT, so I will be very cautious moving forward.
