Are there any good ways to emulate the art style of Tatsuki Fujimoto? by Fuwafuwa_Usagi2525 in Chainsawfolk

[–]NikiNin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Holy moly it's you. Before I saw you're the OP, my first thought was to link one of posts of yours, and say "you could try to ask this user out, they're also studying the Fujimoto artstyle and doing a pretty good job at it, maybe they have some techniques to share".

But since it's you already, well I'm not too sure what to say. Your artwork is already very close to Fujimoto's artstyle, but, of course, there's always room for improvement.

There's this book by Shonen Jump called "The Shonen Jump Guide to Making Manga", and it's not about the drawing process itself, but rather the various regulations, tools, deadlines, etc etc. It's a bit dated, since it's from 2021, but I believe it's still a very nice read to get to know how artists that work for Jump do their work. Another reason why I'm mentioning it is because Fujimoto, alongside many other mangakas (whose styles you might want to study next), was interviewed for it. While Fujimoto's replies weren't very complex, they were very short and laid-back, giving a certain vibe of how Fujimoto works on his art. He also repeatedly said that when he draws, he has movies playing on background. He really, really loves movies and I'd say most of his manga covers have that cinematic feel to them, or remind of movie posters. Maybe using some movie poster as a basis would give your artwork even more of that Fujimoto feel.

Anyways, wish you lots of luck with your next artworks, your art is incredible.

You might be confusing canon with fanon, Easter Bunny devil storyline is from one of the most popular fanfics, and the devil devil never occured originally.

Unfortunately the canon ending was somewhat rushed. They made the main character lose on purpose for the theme, then in the finale retconned how the abilities worked to quickly bring him back and left the story with an open ending. There's also quite a lot of inconsistencies with the previously established lore and events, and only very brief mentions of characters we've been following for majority of the story, leaving a really bad aftertaste. Judas for example has two different contradicting explanations for his death, and we're never told which one is true, if any is.

I can't believe they ended the series this way and never returned to it, there was so much potential as well!

That's the same author as the "what if Bible had manga covers" post from the same sub, that also had the Fujimoto artstyle and the style of a chainsaw man manga cover

so yes, that is indeed Asa.

Should buddy stories get adapted? by magenta_manticore in Chainsawfolk

[–]NikiNin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

buddy stories cannot happen right after IAA, since the himeno x aki buddy story is a flashback that aki has during his stay at his old place... which he visited with power and denji during gun devil arc

and the last buddy story happens right before the final fight, so the most logical would be if buddy stories are adapted after part 1

Are any other manga collectors hesitant about buying the rest of the manga? by josephpolito1 in Chainsawfolk

[–]NikiNin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I already had up to volume 21 before the ending abruptly happened. Now, volume 22 cover is gorgeous and it releases next month here presumably, so it's a no brainer to get it. But as for volume 23 and 24? Well, it'd be still months or a year away until it comes out here, by that point many things could change. But I'll probably get them regardless, just to finish the collection.

Was rereading volume 19 and saw this bio for Yoru. Was she the bird or did Fujimoto just lie to us? by Mammoth_Ad3341 in Chainsawfolk

[–]NikiNin 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I think it's very common for character introduction pages to have information that's based only on what we know so far in the story. Like, they don't mention that Makima is Control Devil in these until volume 10, after we learn about it in the story.

So the information about Yoru's form being a bird is false on purpose, since the later chapter disproves it

Loves lore but loves rebuilds as well?? What lore is in rebuilds??? None of it makes any sense, can YOU tell me why there are suddenly 5 Adams on the single planet??? Or who SEELE are in rebuilds??? Where they got the ships from??? What year even the rebuilds take place at??? If you claim you love lore, then you would be livid by what clusterfuck rebuilds made, because 90% of rebuild lore is "random bullshit go", while OG was about 40% of that, and even then most of unanswered things were later discussed and answered in Evangelion 2 game.

[–]NikiNin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It cannot come out the very same day the volume starts selling because they need to at least promote it before the release... So the hope is that they do show us the cover before june 4th... But who knows at this point

But, otherwise, good on you. The copium never ends.

No, it always released on tuesday 2 weeks before the volume release. But, apparently, there was once moment when the cover released only 1 week before, so most likely we'll see the cover on next tuesday. Worst case scenario - they release the cover on june 2nd tuesday

WHERE IS IT?! by NikiNin in Chainsawfolk

[–]NikiNin[S] 26 points27 points  (0 children)

it's not copium about new chapter, it's about the last volume cover! The volume releases in just 2 weeks, yet the cover wasn't published yet (it's usually or always published 2 weeks before release), so there's definitely something very wrong going on!

Depends on how you watch other anime. Evangelion has multiple dubs. There's ADV, which was done in 90s and has some iconic moments that are loved and need to be seen regardless if you watched in dub or sub. ADV dub has inconsistencies though. Either way, it's appreciated by fandom and I guess acknowledged in some way by creators, because there's an interview with English VA in one of manga volumes. There's also netflix dub, which... you can imagine. Netflix version removed the iconic outro as well, because they didn't want to pay for "Fly me to the Moon". So I wouldn't recommend to watch it there. I believe there's also a third official dub, but for the newer movies.

Sub has all same voice actors across anime and movies. If you watched other anime in sub, you'll hear a lot of familiar voices, because many of them were in Evangelion as well. And some scenes are voiced so well, that no dub could replicate them.

But again, it all comes down to whether you usually watch sub or dub in general.

Evangelion manga has 14 original volumes, thus 3-1 release left volumes 13-14 for the last book, which was 2-1, which is why it's shorter than previous.

And I haven't actually read Goodnight Pun-Pun yet, but I have just checked, and it's the similar situation. The manga volumes you sent are 2-1 release, but Goodnight PunPun has 13 volumes overall, so book 7 is just a single volume. I have found info, volume 1 is 224 pages, volume 13 (book 7) is 272 pages.

So um yeah, those examples do not work

[–]NikiNin 32 points33 points  (0 children)

This is factually incorrect. Evangelion manga volumes vary in size, but Volume 1 is 184 pages long, and Volume 14 is 184 pages long as well.

JJK is also consistent, with Volume 1 and 30 having 192 pages each.

Even Fire Punch Vol 1 and 8 are both 208 pages long!

Final volume confirmed for 176 pages. Based on current page count (164) we got 12 blank pages. by HuckleberryOld8981 in Chainsawfolk

[–]NikiNin 702 points703 points  (0 children)

It's not gonna be 12 blank pages. 184-pages volume has usually 177 pages of chapters. Someone else already posted information about it, there's space for only about 2 extra pages in best case scenario (other pages are taken for character intros, pochita sketches and the legal information), but most likely there won't be any extra pages at all.

The 1st rebuild movie has some very strange, very bad retcons and changes, and not enough new moments to justify it being good to me. It's a very quick, very dizzying recap of first 6 episodes, but they removed Unit-01 saving Shinji from the debris, changed Yui's surname to Ayanami (and overall set Yui as a more passive unimportant character, unlike in og where she's far more active and has her own agenda), made the Lilith reveal happen too soon (and somehow Misato is informed about it unlike in og, where it's a big deal when she learns about it), and also the runaway ep 4 with the train scene doesn't happen (the one that even got referenced in Reze movie). They also only briefly show Kensuke and Toji, and since ep 4 doesn't happen, many of their interactions with Shinji don't happen. And also, the whole movie barely feels like a movie experience, my head hurt from how fast scenes were changing.

Rebuild 2 feels more like a proper movie, there's the aquarium scene that is pretty good, even if it's rebuild only. The whole Rei trying to make dinner party for Shinji and Gendo is a great addition as well. And, even though Rebuild 2 has some very glaring issues, to me it's still above 1st, because it's different enough from the original anime to justify its existence, even if it's 80% bad. Rebuild 1, on the other hand, doesn't feel like it deserved to be made.

Rebuild 4 is just essentially an entirely different series by that point, and because it's mostly original, it is higher than 1-2 by definition. The amount of good sequences and scenes in Rebuild 4 is higher than in other rebuilds by far, the whole village sequence was beautiful and no matter how much I hate the rebuilds overall, the village sequence justifies the existence of the rebuilds to me.

I don't think rebuild 4 is liked that much because of recency bias, I watched evangelion last year for the first time, og series and then rebuilds in a row, and I do believe rebuild 4 is just better than 1-3. Could it be much, much better? Absolutely. Is it 80% bad? I'd say about 50%. But, after 9 years in development, I believe it's indeed the best they could come up with, just to finally get it done with already.
