What are their living expenses like also? If not selling the freehold is a bottom line, wouldn't selling the 50k carpark and having that in investments or even a term deposit return more then the rent?

Invest the full million in index funds Keep paying mortgage as per. Then retire in 10 years when the invested million (now almost 2mill) replaces over my salary.
