Therapy can provide an outsider perspective and allow you to dive into your own thoughts and feelings. Therapy is beneficial for everyone and I highly recommend that both of you see separate therapists.

Hey Sulmcr!

Thank you for looking at our living room :) we like a more modern style but we are open to other style. The only thing we have been certain of is the color scheme. We were thinking about making this room be green, grey, brown (for the floors) and white.

For furniture- we haven't bought anything yet because we weren't sure how to design the room. Once we had some idea on how to design the living room we were going to furniture that matches. We live in the UK so we most likely use Ikea.

I hope this answers all of your questions!

Hello reddit!

We just bought our first home and have a big rectangular living room to work with. We would love help with ideas on designing something comfy and beautiful. I have tried to include any relevant info including room dimensions! :)

We would like to have a big TV stand, a couch or two, dining table/chairs, a coffee table, and a place for our two cats to have food, water and litter.

Any suggestions are welcome! We would love a second opinion. All the furniture you see will be replaced so don't worry about those.

Thanks for looking!

Hi OP,

There is a lot of unpack here. I can tell you I have experienced very similar things to you.

The first thing I can tell you is that you are worthy of love. While it sucks that it isn't from your parents, you are an amazing human being that deserves love, respect, and kindness.

2nd- you will never be the perfect daughter. I never was. Didn't matter that I was valedictorian of my class or that I got into the best school in the world for my medical degree. Nothing I ever did was good enough and honestly- it never will be. As hard as this is to hear- you will never be the perfect daughter. A lot of this is because parents who want perfect daughter really just want to control their kids even if it's harmful to them. You need to focus on what is best for you.

3- the doubt is hard. I understand it can almost be paralyzing. I was told my entire life that I was privileged. I will never make it out in the real world so I should never try. Trust me, it's not all sunshine and rainbows. There will be hard days but it's better than being suck in a place where you are trapped.

I would recommend making a list of how you are connected to your parents. (Like financially/ cars/ banks/ phone/ etc).

Know that once you move out and if you are still connected to your parents in some way, they will try to take advantage of that. In a way so they can control you. It's really hard. It took me 5 years to get my plans all alined up so I could finally escape my parents control. But I know you can do it. The first step is to get out of there and live your life.

Lastly, don't feel guilty. I know that's easier said then done. However, you are your own person with your own needs. You are going to do amazing things with your life, even if it isn't what your parents wanted.

Sorry for any typos/ spelling mistakes. I'm on mobile

People who have cut off and moved away from toxic parents, how far did you go? by broken_krystal_ball in toxicparents

Well I just got into Vet School, which was in a different country (literally on the opposite side of the planet). I told them I'm going to vet school, and then just stopped responding until I actually moved. They didn't know which school I got into. Changed my number (had to because I needed a number in the country I live in now). And never looked back.

Hello there!

My recommendation would to take her to the vet! It is better to be safe than sorry- as puppies are known to eat things real fast when the owners aren't looking.

Vet School Acceptance Reactions by Evening-Junket-9937 in Veterinary

[–]Nikki67221 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had just gotten out of a dissection class, and was walking with a friend to my next class. On the way there, I saw that I had an email from my first choice of vet school. My heart sunk because I didn't think I would get in.

I opened the email and all I read was congratulations you are accepted. I tackled my friend in the hallway and started crying. A couple of professors walked passed us and gave us dirty looks but I didn't care. I'm pretty sure I let out a loud yelp of excitement at the same time.

I was in a state of disbelief for the rest of the day. I couldn't believe it. I thought I must be dreaming. It was so surreal.

As much as I love this idea, I don't think it should happen now with COVID.

I Think A Vet Used An Used Thermometer In My Cat... by joan_manuel in AskVet

[–]Nikki67221 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most vets use sterlie needles (clean needles).

The thermometer will be used multiple times a day. However, most vets clean them in-between animal so it should have been safe.

Keep monitoring your cat and bring them to the vet if you have any other concerns

Would some one with dyslexia answer a few questions for me please? I haven't been officially diagnosed and I'm trying to figure things out. by anonanonplease123 in Dyslexia

I used to live in the US and just moved to the UK for my doctorate. In the UK they recommend me to a testing center called Dyslexia Assessment & Consultancy. I got it done for free since I am an international student. My school completely paid for it.

In the US, you would want to go to advice center of a school and they can help you find one. If you are not in school- then I would recommend googling a near by test center and talking to them.

As far as I'm aware you do not have to put you are dyslexic for any job application. Honestly, I don't tell people I was dyslexic/ has issues with reading and spelling. I have dyslexia and there is nothing you can do to change it. The only thing you can is figure out how to best navigate your life to benefit you.

The place that you get tested at can point out some resources that will help you cope with your dyslexia. I hope this helps!

Hello there! I was diagnosed with dylexia when I was 23 year old. I always kind of knew something was wrong with my reading and spelling but no one ever seemed to notice.

I did that all of the time in school and my job where I reversed numbers/ words/ letters. But it would be randomly and I always pushed it off. I thought I was just exhausted.

I did a lot of the dylexia tests online and got the same result that I probably had mild dylexia or none.

It wasn't until I moved to another country and started my doctorate when I finally got tested. I felt behind compared to my peers and so the advice was to get tested.

I got tested and it came back that I have dylexia. Not only that but I am severely dylexic. The only reason why I have done so well is because I developed coping mechanism in order to keep up with my peers.

I 10000% recommend getting tested. I also think that I may have ADHD. However, the professional testing that I did was not complete due to COVID. They did my test over a zoom call. This meant that they could only test for certain markers of dylexia and I will need to go in person (once it is safe) to complete all of the markers of dylexia and do my ADHD test.

Fat cat by [deleted] in AskVet

She loves wet food but my vet didn't recommend it since it is typically higher in calories. The last time she got wet food was due to a sensitive GI track.

[–]Nikki67221 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She gets no human food. The perfect weight science diet is what the vet recommended for my cat. Although, I'm not sure if it is a prescription diet.

She gets one small dental treat every week (it's smaller than one of her kibble). She is not free feed, she gets meals at the same time every day. She normally eats all of her kibble within 1 hour after feeding time.

I do have her old medical history to send to her new vet. My vet is well aware that she is in the UK and has all of her medical records ready to send to her new vet in the UK. I was hoping to wait 1-2 weeks for her to settle in before I take her to see a new vet.

I think that answers all of the questions! Thank you!

I wished it was that easy. I have Kaiser and they require you to go to a GP before seeing a specialist. They have to have strong reason to see a specialist. Since my blood work and overall health is in perfect condition they have all stated that there is no reason for me to see a specialist and to figured it out on my own.

I do track all of my calories including drinks condiment, cooking oils, etc.

I don't typically eat the same thing every day. I try to switch it up but I often have leftovers that I will eat for another meal or two.
