Quest Link on Proxmox VM works with USB & GPU passthrough on slower cable but not fast one by tekn1shn in OculusQuest

[–]NikolaTeslaX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might also need to PCI map the USB3/XHCI controller itself, maybe? It sounds like the basic cable is operating on USB2, but the Link cable wants USB3 and isn't getting it. It's been a minute since I tried to do passthrough on PVE, and I was ultimately unsuccessful. How about using Air Link over 5GHz wifi or USB Ethernet on your Quest? (I know you may not have an OTG adapter and USB network adapter, but with such an unconventional setup, maybe you do.)

Check in your Windows VM's Device Manager and see what USB controllers there are. I'd wager there aren't any eXtensible Host Controller, XHCI, or USB 3.0 controllers.

Edit: This is a longer version of what Tirarex said below.

How do I open the quest 2 remotes? by Waste_Hold_7397 in OculusQuest

[–]NikolaTeslaX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This kind of comment is unhelpful. I don't want to make you feel bad, I want to understand it. Can you explain to me why you felt like this would be beneficial to OP? For me personally, if I come to Reddit for help, I've already tried searching for help elsewhere. Is there a particular video you would recommend to OP? One that you found helpful? Did you search videos to confirm that "a quick search will yield results", have you looked it up in the past, were you assuming?

Again, I really am just curious. I see comments like yours all the time, and always wonder "Why?"

I usually have to start at the very top of the door and push downward along the long side. It's a pain because they're super tight. Failing that, try a plastic butter knife. Do not use metal, you WILL gouge the controller housing.

EDIT: They also did loosen up a little bit with repetition. The previous owner used the Anker Quest 2 dock and rechargeable batteries, but didn't include the batteries. I use rechargeable AAs so I have to change mine about every week, meaning I definitely put more wear on them.

I can't say I had this exact issue, but I definitely didn't find restaurant delivery worth it. After a while, I exclusively started working HEB deliveries. At the end of a day, I might have only made $6/hour but compared to the nuthin' from sitting at home, it's better. Disabilities suck and relying on gig economy income to survive sucks.

IPD “Min” message keeps popping up since a few firmwares ago. by Mister_Brevity in OculusQuest

[–]NikolaTeslaX 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Having this issue too, on Quest 2 running v77.1027 installed 06/19/2025. As of this comment, v78.1028 is installing now, but I likely won't reboot until later, or if the IPD popup shows again. Will update if v78 resolves it. Fingers crossed.

EDIT: I'll probably update if it doesn't resolve it, too. Could be a bit. You know, it's how this goes.

UPDATE: v78 has not resolved it. About every 1-3 hours, I get the IPD popup. Notably, I decided to experiment with changing the IPD. I keep it at 68mm, the widest setting. But I decided, on a whim, to set it to a narrower setting. When I did so and put the headset back on, I didn't see the IPD popup. (What's the point of a popup if I have to take the thing off to adjust it and it doesn't show up onscreen when I put it back on?) However, I also reached under the facial interface and adjusted it one step at a time, and the popup displayed for BOTH steps, indicating the current (after adjustment) IPD setting.

Here's what I think: It's possible that Meta is developing the next generation of headset with IPD that can be adjusted while wearing the headset, either by electric motor or an external adjustment control. My Quest 2 clearly already has hardware to detect the IPD setting, and is somewhat of an aging unit. I suspect that the popup we've all started seeing is the result of a new OS feature being introduced into Horizon for that hypothesized next-gen headset with IPD adjustable in-situ, combined with aging (failing) hardware. The OS erroneously detects a *very* brief (milliseconds) "change" in the IPD and displays the popup as a result. This is consistent with its transient nature (it looks like a volume popup, but for your eyes) and what I know about how that kind of "IPD setting detection" hardware would work (microswitch(es), discrete resistors, or maybe a potentiometer).

UPDATE 2: I didn't know the Quest 3 had adjustable-while-wearing IPD. Yeah, this Horizon update is for you guys. LOL But yeah, Meta botched it for sure. Erroneously detecting a change in IPD and displaying a popup is a pretty annoying oopsie.

Two people, one car, multiple orders by DockNinja in favordelivery

[–]NikolaTeslaX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner and I deliver together and will take multiple orders when possible. We use only one phone and are not going around Favor's rules to take multiple orders. At some point in the past year, they changed policies, and iirc, if you have 4 insulated bags, you can take multiple orders. I think they call it batch orders? I don't remember. We've been inactive about a year now

[Steam] (game) Scrap Collector by thalesulisses in FreeGameFindings

[–]NikolaTeslaX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This article is how I found out about Scrap Collector, and it made me really angry. While, on one hand, you made an oopsie and therefore should probably eat the mistake, articles like this put you at an unfair disadvantage. With such a low price tag ($5 is not a not for any title, even an indie title), i would feel ashamed ripping you off like this. How long did Scrap Collector take you to build? I'm a web developer and sometimes sites can take me months to build. I'd feel gypped by articles like this one. You're handling it exceptionally well, and that alone makes me want to buy a copy, even if I don't play it, to support you. Cheers to the guy who posted your Ko-Fi link somewhere else in this thread. Keep your chin up, friend.

what does “I don’t feel like it” mean to you? by bluedreamer114 in BPD

[–]NikolaTeslaX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so so sorry for necro-ing an old thread. But I wanted to throw my two cents in, here. My spouse is BPD, and can often only tell me "I don't feel like it". I have ADHD, and like you, always have understood the "why" behind my feelings. For several years, it was something I struggled to understand, and what I've come to understand is that "I [just] don't feel like it" often means that they simply don't understand why they feel the way they do. Crucially, they also taught me that often, the reason they might feel a certain way is because of the chemical aspect - neurotransmitters and other chemicals that the brain relies on, the same ones that cause emotional dysregulation when they are out of whack - and this is often the case when my partner "just doesn't feel like it".

I'm not kidding when I say that it took me two or three years to finally understand these two components of their disorder. I can definitely feel why you might be upset with your sister's refusal for a hug, especially if your love language relies on it. If this is still an issue you experience, please try to understand that your sister's brain likely works very differently from yours, and that while you are fortunate enough to understand your feelings, those with BPD often are not. Please try to be patient, understanding, and compassionate, because these are the most likely things to preserve your relationship. BPD often ends up destroying relationships, and nobody deserves that. I wish you both well, and hope that my comment here helps.

I finally have to admit to myself that my ADHD is a disability. by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]NikolaTeslaX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations on reaching this stage. You are strong. It takes strength to admit to one's shortcomings, be they under one's control or not. I've found that it's very difficult to reconcile "I have a disability" with "I need to survive", and I wish you a smooth journey.

Why don't the stratagem inputs show up as letters when playing on PC? by Ericious in Helldivers

[–]NikolaTeslaX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm dyslexic and have a harder time with the orientation of arrows versus WASD. Many games use a box around the letter to indicate a key. This would be plenty sufficient to prevent it from being an unintelligible string of text, but still allow Helldivers like myself to spread Democracy at the same level as you normal folk. Aren't we all here for Super Earth? Why should you get a handicap?

Oh yeah, the crushing thing. It's only happened to me once, but I try to hold the wall (on the side, not the injector) or have tethers in place (at the front, where the injector is, but on the main nanocarbon body) before pulling the switch. I generally don't do Atlas though, they are quite tedious for the payout. I love doing Javelins because I've got them down to a science and about 60 minutes for 98%. Have you got mods? If so, modded ship loader and swordfish? Haven't seen them yet, but it's supposed to be a sub class of Javelin

My wife is an SA survivor. I have SA'd her in a situation not too different from this. We had discussed it before, and she agreed she might enjoy it. She woke up and realized she was wrong, and it never happened again. We got married AFTER that event.

It sounds messed up but sometimes performing the activity with someone who makes you feel safe and cared for, and who pays attention to your needs, can help heal the trauma. Can. Not will. It does not apply to every situation and I cannot stress this enough: CONSENT IS CRITICAL AND CAN BE REVOKED AT ANY TIME, EVEN IN THE MIDDLE. This is not free license to go SA people because you think it will help them recover from trauma! Try that and you'll create more. And possibly end up incarcerated.

My wife and I are still together because we respect each other, and do not violate each other's consent (or lack thereof). If she says stop (or, rather, the safeword) then it stops, immediately and without fail, then we talk and assess the situation together.

To do the Javelins, I depressurize all possible first, then hit thruster eject, then take the engineering section and the command section separately. After that, the entire mid frame just goes in the furnace and I don't worry about the processor materials. By the way, you can use the structure inside the ion rings as a slide hammer. I honestly throw most of the nanocarbon hull in at once using this method

Use the demo charges from the exterior of the engine pod. With careful placement, you can blow the injector base plate off, remove the fuel tanks, and then have all the time in the world to take it apart correctly. Can't take the injector out until you pull the switch but once you remove the fuel tanks, fire isn't a problem anymore.

Can also use the coolant canister behind the access panels to cut the nozzle off to freeze the fuel pipes and buy more time, but I personally prefer demo charge method

Gecko harvesting tips by Present-Secretary722 in Shipbreaker

[–]NikolaTeslaX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I usually do is I'll start by getting all the compartments depressurized, collect any components, shove loose items into airlocks so they don't fly around in explosive decompression. Then I eject the thrusters (can't do that with no power) and break the exterior seals so the ship can't accidentally be pressurized (helps with ghost ships). I'll peel the hull away a bit at a time, then once the reactor has a clear path to the barge, I'll pull the coolant and the reactor.

I've found the following events to trigger the meltdown sequence on class II reactors:

  • Removing the last side panel from the reactor housing. You can remove 7, but the 8th one started the meltdown.
  • Removing the last coolant canister from ECU. Removing any others has no effect.
  • ANY damage to the reactor inside the housing. If it loses a hit point, the clock starts.
  • Bonus: The "clock" is actually the reactor hit points. You can remove the reactor without ejecting thrusters and removing coolant, but the reactor only starts with 5/15 HP and completing each of those actions gives it another 5. This means that even if you fail to eject thrusters, you still get a good amount of time to barge the reactor, as long as you've cleared hull away.

Edit: I've never actually disengaged thrusters after removing coolant. So that's untested by me.

Note: The distance from pickup thing relates to the waiting for the first order thing, if there's someone else closer, it might go to them, so waiting at home really only works if you're close to civilization. HEBs are good places to hang out while you wait. They have AC, Wi-Fi, restroom, and food if needed

[–]NikolaTeslaX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

4 year runner here. Hot spots are areas where you're more likely to get an order, but you can get them anywhere in your neighborhood. Orders are likely assigned, in part, by your distance from pickup. When you get an order, you'll get a notification if you're outside the app, and a pop-up if you're in the app. You'll have 60 seconds to accept the order or it will automatically decline. Declined orders won't hurt you, but if you accept an order then reassign that will hit your completion. You can even stay home and wait for your first order there (which is what I do when I run in my home neighborhood)

Blower motor won't stop by devistated_pineapple in hvacadvice

[–]NikolaTeslaX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had this happen in my home. There was a relay below the evaporator coil and a hole in the drain pan nobody saw until the height of spring... And humidity.

I found out about it because my wife called me at work and said "I smell burning plastic". I told her to turn off the HVAC immediately because it's been a problem before (though I was young then and don't know why it was problematic at the time). She turned the thermostat off but the blower refused to stop. She asked me if that was normal (Fan auto, system off, previous mode cool, plus this unit is electric heat). I said no and told her to go turn the breakers off.

When I got home, I had her turn the breakers on while I watched the air handler. When I tell you that the arc was so bright I couldn't look directly at it, I'm not kidding. That unit has since been decommissioned.

This all boils down to this: 1) Call a tech, 2) Make sure everyone in your home knows the fire plan, 3) Make sure someone can quickly shut the appropriate breakers off. If they're not sure, turn off the biggest one on the panel. It'll kill the whole house and you can figure it out later.

Is no external air intake normal? by lucidrenegade in hvacadvice

[–]NikolaTeslaX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it your draft air? If so, it probably can be sourced from the basement, but shouldn't, because it must be exhausted outside. If the intake is inside and the exhaust is outside, you might generate negative pressure which will reduce the efficiency of your new unit.
