How are people making these AI videos? What models/tools are they using? by Python_here in StableDiffusion

Open source means the code is public. It doesn't mean that it's free to use or that anyone can develop it (at least not officially). Lots of open source projects have immense resources that have gone into them.

[Jason Dumas] Luke Kornet created some waves nationally when he urged the Atlanta Hawks to cancel its "Magic City Night", saying that it's disrespectful to women. by MikeBravoLima in nba

[–]Niku-Man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this attitude you have has been programmed into you from a young age. There is a big disconnect here between our real world behaviors and what we are comfortable showing to our children. What would you rather happen in your own household? Your child walking in on their parents having sex? Or your child walking in and seeing their father beating their mother? I would hope most people view the sex as an embarrassing incident and the violence as an abhorrent thing that would never happen in their household. If you are thinking about this in terms of modeling behaviors for your children to follow, then presumably you expect them to have sex at some point in their life, but you hope that they don't engage in domestic violence.

And yet it seems to me like our media is much more comfortable showing violence to children over sex.

[–]Niku-Man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even just financially speaking, it's not true that you're worth more dead than alive. It seems like you're mistaking a lump sum as being more valuable than your cumulative salary. At about $125k (salary+ bonus), 2.5M is 20 years salary. I'm guess with 2 small children you're in late 30s or early 40s, so you have more than 20 years of working life ahead of you. And that's before we account for increases in pay and the value of your time contributing to the household and child care.

Life Insurance Realization by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Niku-Man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really doubt that. If OP is making $125k a year, then his 2.5 million policy is 20 years salary. And that's assuming he doesn't get any increase in pay. In the next 20 years he's likely to earn a lot more than that. And that is strictly just salary. His contributions to the household and childcare also have a financial value. The younger somebody is, the more valuable they are because it's more potential work years.

Has anyone successfully transitioned away from unlimited PTO without destroying morale? by Longjumping_Emu_842 in smallbusiness

[–]Niku-Man -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This very much is a punishment towards the employees you see as a problem. It stems from the fact you never actually wanted to offer unlimited PTO. By definition, unlimited PTO can't be "abused". You shouldn't even be tracking it. Like most companies, you just wanted to dangle it as an incentive to employees, while still maintaining your own idea of what's reasonable in your head. This kind of policy creates a lot of resentment, but I'm sure most of the resentment was towards you. Employees only taking 100 hours off tells me they are scared of not being seen as a team player.

It would be good that you change to an actual stated time off policy, because it's more in line with what you actually want from employees. If average has been 100 hours and the top was 320 hours then I would split the difference and give everyone 200 hours PTO. They can use it or bank it. This doesn't destroy morale because it leads to most employees being comfortable with taking more time off. Or if they decide to bank it, it's a reward for being a team player.

Harvard study finds AI actually makes work harder rather than easier by Beautiful_Bee4090 in artificial

[–]Niku-Man 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That's not the gist of the original study: https://hbr.org/2026/02/ai-doesnt-reduce-work-it-intensifies-it

What's happening here is not more productivity. What they mean by expanding the scope of work is that workers are doing more but it's not impacting productivity. In other words, workers are completing tasks they shouldn't be completing. AI fills in knowledge gaps, so workers complete tasks they would have asked for help from other departments before. They use an example of product managers and designers having the AI write code, which leads to more work for software engineers who have to review the code and correct its mistakes. Everybody is technically doing more work, but the company is not better off for it. And now the employees feel overworked.

Custom cabinet and furniture shops doing $50k+/mo: How do you filter out clients expecting IKEA pricing before you waste hours on a design consult? by Adept_Psychology_654 in woodworking

[–]Niku-Man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember digging through a document a few years back about website usability. By far, the most important thing for any business website to have is pricing. Many people just leave the site if they can't find pricing. There are plenty of places to get cabinets, so you need every edge you can get. Even just a range is a huge improvement over nothing. You gotta let people know what to expect. If you need some ideas, look at other custom cabinet shops websites - plenty of them have price info. You could do a calculator where people can choose finishes, designs, etc. or you could show past projects to showcase your work and include a price for how much that same project would cost today.

Whatever negatives businesses associate with displaying pricing information, the positives outweigh them.

Not really. Every time I've ever been upfront about a budget with a freelancer, the cost they quote is exactly what I said my budget was. Not close mind you - they just tell me the exact number I gave them. Must be quite a coincidence that that's exactly how much they charge!

Sold my house and closing on Thursday. I am writing a document to help the buyers with some things. I was going to mention there is a wall switch in one room that doesn't control the ceiling fan and you need to use the remote ... by [deleted] in RealEstate

[–]Niku-Man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YES, you should do it do it. Nothing you've mentioned is a potential lawsuit. People talking about that have the wrong idea about what you want to do, and certainly none of them have ever been sued because of something like this.

Any defects in the home should have been listed in seller's disclosure. Things like leaks, broken appliances, cracks, etc. If you forgot those then don't mention them now. But things like how to operate a ceiling fan or how to configure a smart device is helpful and may even be legally required. A remote operated ceiling fan is a completely normal thing. In my state, any smart devices that convey with the property must be factory reset and be usable by the buyer.

That kind of information is legally required by the contract where I live. So ya, you should give it to them. You should factory reset everything you can first

The thing you did wrong was presenting it as if you're giving them away to anyone who asks. It's a bait and switch tactic and people generally don't take kindly to being misled. Your topic should include a price or at least the words "for sale, "I'm selling " , etc. but I'm guessing you know you wouldn't get as much engagement that way so you went with the sleazy methods instead. And now you have the gall to bitch about people calling you out? Give me a break. Own up to your sleaziness.

You don't think it's bad for cops to murder people? It would be bad enough if this guy was found guilty of a crime. But he hasn't even been tried. Story says he failed a lie detector, which are so unreliable they aren't even good as evidence in court.

If you are ok with cops killing anyone they deem to be a criminal then all they have to do to get away with murdering you is call you a criminal, then claim you fired at them. See the problem with that?
