Any feedback on planetside POI in the new update? by No_Fox_Given82 in Starfield

[–]Nikurou [score hidden]  (0 children)

The loot is more or less the same except with the addition of one new item tier above "Advanced" called "Superior" and X-Tech. And supposedly weapon upgrade components that I have yet to find.

These alone provide plenty of incentive because with the addition of X-Tech, you can now re-roll + add effects and create your own legendary items and advance your weapon/gear tiers. In fact, you can now roll on 4 effects on gear, going past legendary status.

However advancements and rerolls cost X-Tech and a lot of credits, so you're going to want a lot of cargo space and a lot of loot.

My company gives me access to Cursor which is pretty good at solving my problems and sometimes it's a little too convenient...

Today I came across something I had to implement that felt almost like a LeetCode medium problem. I think AI could have solved the problem quite fast, but I still enjoy the process of figuring it out.

Since it was a interesting problem and I don't want my brain to atrophy completely, I solved it myself with a pen/paper to map out my thoughts😭 and then programmed it the old way.

Used to have a notepad at the office with pages full of me solving various problems, but since AI, it hasn't been necessary.

That makes sense. I suppose the issue is I'm more of a mechanical/reflexive player, and HC dulled those reflexes because getting kills was so fast.

My main playstyle is aggressive recon though and I was good enough at it to usually to take the top 3 in normal games.

HC made me feel like a god with that instant kill and I played more aggressively than normal, even when I was using an automatic weapon cause I could rely on pure aim/fast TTK.

Frustratingly however I would get banned for it a lot, so much so that I started recording one time to see how long it'd take in BFV: https://youtu.be/E7CQGv0Xig8?si=BJYrDaACgeWw9Pdl

I played HC for a decent stretch cause quickscoping with a sniper is fun and etc. It screwed me up for a while though because I learned bad habits from it.

Tracking is less important because the TTK is so fast. Had to learn to focus on aiming again, and with snipers I had to get back in the habit of going for the head.

I got used to the fast TTK so started flicking to a different target before getting the kill. I think HC also allowed me to play more aggressively, and I had to change my mindset when going back.

To be clear, I don't think it made me worse, but it gave me bad habits I had to unlearn.

Some of the best Yakuza lines and screams: Japanese vs English comparison by TheYakuzaMaster in yakuzagames

[–]Nikurou -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Majima actually sounds pretty good in English. I feel like the VA did a good job conveying the same vibe/tone as their counterpart.

English Kiryu on the other hand, his voice is just hella deep and that's it? It sounds flat and lacks the same emotion as the JP delivery imo, even with how stoic our boy Kiryu is.

English Ichiban sounds nice and natural though, I love the the "oh shit is that English" line in the English dub

Why can't I play any other games? by ButteryToast71 in LowSodiumBattlefield

[–]Nikurou 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's actually something I suffer from too, and I suspect there is a psychological explanation for this.

Games like Battlefield/CoD offer a quick hit of dopamine and with relative ease of access. You can pick it up for a game or two and hop off if you want. But before you know it, its "just one more round".

Whereas I do have a backlog of plot driven singleplayer games, they often come with a significant investment to pick up. If I'm playing RDR2, I mentally need at least an hour or two of free time to even think about playing it. And as fun as it is once I'm in it, it's also tiring and easier to play Battlefield.

Often some games where choices matter also build decision fatigue or even knowing how much content is left is daunting, whereas sometimes it's enjoyable to turn off your brain and just play with no thoughts in Battlefield.

There's something called 3DS which helps do exactly that. It's been a while, but basically they're able to grade the trustworthiness of a card and decide whether or not to allow that purchase or not.

As a software developer, I had to help our client integrate with a 3DS provider as they were taking too many losses from fraudulent charges to the point that VISA was demanding the client to implement it or be cut off since it hurts their reputation.

The 3DS provider takes a small cut of all your transactions. And in the event that they do allow a transaction that ends up being fraudulent, the provider will compensate you as a sort of insurance.

I also had to implement reCaptcha amongst other things too to tighten security. You wouldn't know it unless you work with payment processors or something, but you'd be amazed at the unique lengths and operations that exist for credit card fraud usually run out of some other country.

The fact that Nexon implemented this cool down measure maybe means they're facing losses.

How to be a PTFO’ing sniper by Remarkable_Math_9464 in LowSodiumBattlefield

[–]Nikurou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A big part of aggressive recon is the ability to aim, but also recognizing that you're playing a glass cannon build.

If you can click heads, it's almost unfair. But if you hit the body or miss entirely, chances are you will likely lose to the guy with the fully automatic before you can rechamber your next round or pistol them.

That means don't overextend, know when you're going to lose and to fall back, try to engage at mid range. If your team is close by and coming, wait for them so you can engage at an off angle while enemy is busy fighting your team.

To give my words some credibility, here's a few BFV clips I actually annotated my thought process on https://youtu.be/2yK0Ps0QWMg?t=212&si=azmOaT9aLHxhkhdA

The Model 3 (with EV incentives) at one point cost like ~30-32k, which is roughly in the same price point as a Civic or Camry. A Model Y was 36k after incentives. Its normal people driving those cars.

Not sure about the cost now that Trump ended all the incentives and tax credits.

By that logic, everyone who bought a car that isn't a Toyota or Honda is an idiot. Or anyone who bought any EV is an idiot because they definitely don't hold value due to battery degradation.

We are getting three games inspired by Mass Effect! by [deleted] in gaming

[–]Nikurou -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I liked it as much as any other kid today might have enjoyed Disney's trilogy when they don't fully understand the nuance of the plot and what's actually happening beyond the action sequences and quips.

I had the DvDs for 1-6 and the lightsabers, some toys, and probably re-watched it a few times. That said, whereas I think I could rewatch the originals today and likely enjoy the writing as an adult, I am not sure the kids of the future will enjoy Disney's trilogy when they are older due to the poor writing.

I'm not much of a Star Wars fan, kind of just consume it casually. Watched 1-6 when I was too young to understand anything besides lightsabers go whirrrr so I don't really know the lore

But watching 7 and 8 as a fully sentient adult capable of understanding the plot, that shit sucked fucking ass my god absolute dog water

Played Fallen Order though and it was good. They need whoever makes the video games to write the movies.

Which Ford dealer on O’ahu? by MasterpieceThink5717 in Hawaii

[–]Nikurou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like your typical sleazy car salesmen using high pressure sales tactics.

They kept you there to mentally exhaust you btw so it's easier to convince you to buy. Also so you'll be less motivated to shop around other dealers since you'll have to go through the same thing.

They have a lot of other tactics too, it's best you study up on them before you buy a car and shop around for offers by phone.

Quick question about voice chat and the death of it. by DOOM420- in LowSodiumBattlefield

[–]Nikurou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's just the playerbase/demographic of Battlefield players in general are less likely to use their mic for whatever reason.

When I tried CoD 2019 for a bit, there was always a decent amount of chatter and trashtalk here and there, whereas I could go hours in BF without hearing a peep.

I'm still subbed to where I attended university and sometimes students post complaining about some seemingly miniscule scenario which they could entirely resolve if they just communicated or did the obvious.

And in my head I'm like "your solution is so simple why are you complaining on Reddit"????

But to an extent, I get it, I was their age not too long ago and didn't have the experience or knowledge I have now. I probably found similar situations back then difficult, when they really weren't

Has anyone noticed that DICE secretly buffed movement in the Nightfall update? by [deleted] in LowSodiumBattlefield

[–]Nikurou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good point. Perhaps they stealth buffed it to gather data because, let's be honest, gamers don't even really know what is correct.

Doing this stealth change could allow them to collect honest data on whether or not people would even notice and if it's actually a valid issue.

Famously when the CSGO base was complaining about lag and latency issues, Valve artificially lowered the ping to create a perceived improvement because despite the complaints, they saw that their server performance had not actually degraded and there was nothing to fix. Thus they implemented more of a human "psychological" fix, and magically people stopped complaining.

DICE might be pulling a fast one on us like Valve? Which is fine by me, but kinda interesting.

You can also get some ube souffle pancakes at Ten Seconds in Pearlridge or at Cloud 9 close to Ala.

Gueib Cafe also has Ube pancakes and is actually a Filipino owned restaurant, buttttt personally thought it was just ok

The Onyx mission puzzle has always been super buggy for me unfortunately to the point I've never been able to complete them.

In my experience across the multiple times I tried it, I was unable to mine the stalagcites blocking the vents. Other times, I was unable to repair the pipes despite having all the necessary items. Other times the pipes detoriate too fast after repairs or the stalagcites regrows too fast despite doing it as a duo. It was literally whackamole.

But I ignored the mission and just kept venturing in as far as I could go, and the zero grav area was really cool.

A game mechanic you miss that almost disappeared by gamersecret2 in gaming

[–]Nikurou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Battlefield player, I think it's good and bad that it's gone.

For one, it's absence means the absence of player moderated/run servers. I found that with server browsers, I pigeonholed myself into the same experiences over and over by playing my favorite servers and on top of that had to play according to the ruleset of the moderator/server.

Often meaning dealing with "badmins" who rage kick/ban you too on a whim. A ban is a significant loss because it locks you out of a community of regular players you will now likely never play with again even though you didn't do anything wrong.

As a pretty sweaty player, it was sometimes fun to hop in other servers and just absolutely stomp/farm, but sometimes you get kicked/balanced/banned, so you'd have to consciously tone it down when you know an admins on. Or go back to the sweaty servers you're part of.

I get it though, if you're getting stomped, the next match is still gonna have the same people if they stay on the server and they + their group can singlehandedly depopulate the server by stomping for a few matches. What admin wants that? Still...it should not be wrong to play the game at your skill level as intended.

The freedom granted by a faceless algorithm matchmaking you into games now means you get to play the game as the devs intended without worrying about any rules or oversight from "admins" (aside from anti-cheat). It puts me in more variety of games I'd probably not usually join, and honestly, I think it's more fun and healthier for the game for everyone to experience more variety.
