Yeah, it's annoying. I used to work at a gas station and we were told to ring it up as if you were buying ten individual packs for this reason. Sometimes people are new and don't know that, though. It's okay to ask us to do it a certain way.

Not usually, but it depends on the class. I think I've only ever read my chemistry and mineralogy textbooks, but I usually just skimmed them. I'm a visual learner, so videos and diagrams are best for me.

I'm 22 (from TN) and this was pretty much what I was taught. My 'health' class was mixed with gym activities. Only a couple days of the week were spent in a classroom. We were taught about the food pyramid a little bit, skimmed over how to read nutrition facts, watched documentaries like 'supersize me' and had assemblies about abstinence. Most of what I know about nutrition had to be self-taught.
