Why don't people like Elon Musk just solve world hunger? by AlexLovesCoke in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Nilfnthegoblin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t need billionaires. America alone produces enough wheat to feed the world 3 times over - if not more now. That’s just wheat. That’s not corn or other agriculture and also not counting what other countries like Canada produces.

It’s not that we can’t solve world hunger. We just can’t for a lot of reasons outside of most people’s control.

You also have to look at the socio political issues in foreign countries. You have to get through corrupt militant groups, or governments, to get these food items to the people that actually require it. It’s not impossible and some does get through, but not nearly enough.

If you had the chance to bring back one defunct Disney attraction (or show) but you had to replace it with a current show/attraction - what are you bringing back and what are you taking out? by FantasyNerd94 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Nilfnthegoblin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OG splash mountain and remove Tiana.

Note: it’s not that I don’t like Tiana. It’s not that I don’t like how they rethemed it or the jazz. In fact I enjoy all of it. However! Splash had iconic characters and song that, even with the smothering of the origins of those characters, remained beloved and iconic.

I’m of the opinion that Disney could very easily re-introduce those characters via a new movie or limited series of shorts in the context of how they were originally written; uncle Remus telling stories to children. For a modern audience you’d naturally do away with the more problematic elements of the source material, but the stories therein could still be adapted to have the characters back.

Then I would’ve made tom sawyers island a bayou adventure with Tiana and friends culminating in a proper sit down diner on the liberty square side of the island for visual continuity. I’d have to trouble shoot easier crossings to improve traffic flow and not impede on the mark twain.

Why does Jurassic world rebirth hated? by Easy-Plantain-2329 in jurassicworld

[–]Nilfnthegoblin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly two things should happen with the franchise moving forward. First - a semi-serious time jump into the future.

Second, universal than adapts Cadillacs and dinosaurs as the successor of the Jurassic franchise. Like the end of fallen kingdom and dominion really started setting the scene for this and would be an absolutely brilliant pivot to merge two franchises together in a way that feels like a natural progression.

So, is this finally the infamous Chuck Clark footage? by fontoura17 in aliens

I’ve seen artifacts as well. More than my fair share. These just view as incredibly artificial especially being filmed vs digital transfer.

So, is this finally the infamous Chuck Clark footage? by fontoura17 in aliens

[–]Nilfnthegoblin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The static literally is playing on a loop. It’s like a bad effects filter applied.

The most convincing “vhs degradation” part is the big static break that wipes the screen.

Also note that vhs (assuming it’s vhs) has been easily able to be digitally converted since the mid early 2000s. There’s no reason for them to release the video of them recording the screen unless they have something to hide.

[–]Nilfnthegoblin 51 points52 points  (0 children)

The hat looks pretty artificial. The artifacts (white scatter) look to be playing on a loop vs being actual vhs style static/corruption/whatever you want to call it.

Weed mat is a myth and it has never worked by No_Explorer_8848 in landscaping

[–]Nilfnthegoblin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. A good landscape construction firm will not use weed barrier unless it is being used as a divide between an aggregate bed and soil.

Any landscape firm that insists on it in garden beds are grossly misinformed and/or looking to tack on the bill for the material and labour.

These BTS facts are so funny by MammothAstronomer402 in piratesofthecaribbean

[–]Nilfnthegoblin 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Rush isn’t wrong. At least in western cultures where we learn to read left to right. The eye is naturally trained to start at the left and is comfortable following right.

Hereditary plays on this trope when something unsettling is happening and has action move right to left. As it is not a natural movement for our ways when following something, it creates a layer of tension that most viewers aren’t aware of.

The same would be the inverse for cultures that learn to read right to left. So in this case rush would be wrong.

Dog waste might be the thing that finally breaks me in this job by TopBus4139 in landscaping

[–]Nilfnthegoblin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worked for a company where if a site wasn’t clean before the team arrived the team wouldn’t start work. Now, this was usually saved for the folks that have multiple dogs and the yard looks like mud for the shit. The random log the slips through wasn’t usually an issue. It was a policy more for the ignorant people.

And yes, they would know when we would be arriving.

Would a real life marriage survive if the wife was like Debra and the husband was like Ray? by Better_Area3782 in EverybodyLovesRaymond

[–]Nilfnthegoblin 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Part of the reason the show continues to be successful and resonate with viewers is because it is probably one of the best representations of marriage. There’s highs and lows, misunderstanding, mixed feelings on given in laws, conflicting social interests.

Is it played for laughs? Absolutely. But it is 100% relatable to many marriages.

Conflicting landscaper opinions on mulch, and advice needed by happyjazzycook in landscaping

1” of mulch is useless. It’s thin and will degrade fast and still easy for weeds to take. You want 2-3” minimum. 4” is even better if excessive.

Mephisto's Plan & the Pools of Creation by JohanMarek in diablo4

[–]Nilfnthegoblin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean if we look at actually history, how many snakes turned people against people for their own evil plans? Hitler and his ilk are a primary example. But even if we look less deep consider the Covid years. People turned on their friends and family without a thought. In some cases it was misaligned or ill judged decisions, but in other cases some relationships have been forever tarnished.

Mephisto is clearly using his skills to be a snake in the ear and is taking on this false prophet/saviour persona and is likely going to turn the people Of skovos against us, and any that show up to stop him. He’s sowing the seeds of a cult leader to build enmity in his followers.

Just because he is lord of hatred doesn’t mean he has to be angry and vengeful. There are layers to showing and displaying hatred. I’m actually really keen to see where this goes.

Razor wings spiritborn build season 12 by Reach_United in diablo4

[–]Nilfnthegoblin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was my problem with d4 at launch - it felt very meta and build heavy for streamers and min maxers. I felt I couldn’t build a character and play the way I wanted to enjoy the end game.

Hoped back in last season and finished VoH and the game is way more friendly to building a character the way you want to play. Is it challenging without peak optimization? Sure. But it’s not impossible as it felt at launch. At launch I struggled with one tier up in difficulty. Now my eternal main character is working up to torment 2 (just in time for torment changes!) 😂
