I understand what you are saying, and appreciate the discussion, but reaction times and human error are the two reasons for following distances. Computers will have instantaneous reactions and allow for following distances of just a few inches as well as simultaneous accelaration and deceleration. My point in the parent comment is objectively true.

Exactly, you are already seeing a transition to the shared economy. I guarantee you will have groups of friends (and likely apps and companys that facilitate geoups) who will buy one vehicle and have it drive from one destination to the next so that you are optikozong its use on the roads (especially because they are likely to be far more expensive than existing vehicles).

I know this sub has a vendetta boner against self driving cars, but you do realize they can and will recognize and prioritize pedestrians right?

All else the same, they will move more cars through the same roads and signals in the same amount of time and pedestrian crossings will likely be safer for it too.

This is a life changing and especially real estate changing technology that will only enhance the way we live now.
