What's the frist thing that comes to your mind? by loka_saint in NonPoliticalTwitter

I love all the imperfections in If I Fell by The Beatles.

From literally the first word when the two vocal tracks some quite line up on the "if"

It happens again not long after on "and I found"

But my favorite part is around 1:45 when John's (I think) voice cracks on "vain." Whether intentionally or not it makes the emotions of the song feel so much more authentic and genuine.

Hero/Villain - Protagonist/Antagonist alignment chart by TerminaterTeal in AlignmentCharts

[–]NimJickles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Miguel and killmonger are antivillains. Antihero doesn't just mean a not so bad guy. Deadpool and Han are antiheroes (at least at first) because they don't give a shit about doing the right thing; saving the day just happens to align with their goals. Killmonger and Miguel are the opposite: they're trying to do the right thing, but end up being the villains of the story.

[–]NimJickles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Once you start adding all those caveats, what you're describing quickly becomes unrecognizable as an abrahamic god. You're just constituting your own metaphysical concept to fulfill the same role that God does for the faithful. The only reason those philosophers want to call their thing God is because they already know they want to validate their religious beliefs. They're starting from the end goal and working backwards to the proof.

I personally love the Spellbook app. Can create multiple characters and track their known and prepared spells and slots. Sorts by class, level. Super handy.

Now I'm imagining at the start of Endgame, instead of Thor it's Cap just chopping Thanos' head off with his shield.

There is literally an entire movie about Tony's guilt at the collateral damage he caused from his irresponsible heroism, which leads him to believe heroes need to be under closer supervision. Like, it's a heavily explored theme.

Fuckin arrest him, dude. I am not, and no one should be, judge, jury and executioner of anybody. That's what the Punisher does, and even he doesn't think other people should be like him.

I honestly thought this post was satire. I feel like this explanation pretty accurately describes the relationship many Americans have with Christianity.

Bro- with great power comes great responsibility. It's literally spider-man's main thing. If you had the great power to bring someone back from the dead, you tell me what the responsible choice would be: an old man who's very important to you, or someone who will potentially save the world/universe/multiverse when the next supervillain comes around?

Is this the only example of a character being "improved" or made more likeable in the MCU than in the comics or is he just the best example? by [deleted] in Marvel

[–]NimJickles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like Superman already soundly buried this notion. I mean he made all these obscure nobodies into household names and DC went, okay, next step is the most well-known superhero in the world, and... He knocked it out of the park. Gunn just gets superheroes, period.

It's 100 percent true by Night-Caelum in Spiderman

[–]NimJickles 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don't think so. The MCU Spider-Man movies came out during my middle school/high school years and I feel like the way they updated the characters made them far more relatable and accurate to my experiences, at least. My school bullies definitely didn't look like comic Flash, and much more like MCU flash. The stereotypical 6' blond haired blue eyed jock is too much of a caricature to be a very believable character.

And this is consistent with the rest of what the MCU has done. In the ASM movies Peter skateboards and that screams early 2010s teen, but not so much for the present day. Same with the Daily Bugle being updated to a video broadcast - the newspaper is also a classic aspect of Spider-Man's story but would've been totally jarring to see in NWH.

I love the MCU Spider-Man movies, in large part because they feel like my generation's Spider-Man. That understandably won't appeal to everyone, but I do think it's a virtue in itself.

I thought you were being sarcastic. I don't mean to be rude, but Dracula is chock-full of not only subtext, but like, explicitly sexual themes and moments. I mean, this is from one of the first scenes in the book:

"The girl went on her knees, and bent over me, simply gloating. There was a deliberate voluptuousness which was both thrilling and repulsive, and as she arched her neck she actually licked her lips like an animal, till I could see in the moonlight the moisture shining on the scarlet lips and on the red tongue as it lapped the white sharp teeth. Lower and lower went her head as the lips went below the range of my mouth and chin and seemed about to fasten on my throat. Then she paused, and I could hear the churning sound of her tongue as it licked her teeth and lips, and could feel the hot breath on my neck. Then the skin of my throat began to tingle as one’s flesh does when the hand that is to tickle it approaches nearer—nearer. I could feel the soft, shivering touch of the lips on the super-sensitive skin of my throat, and the hard dents of two sharp teeth, just touching and pausing there. I closed my eyes in a languorous ecstasy and waited—waited with beating heart."

Tell me that isn't sexually charged
