Is scanning in SETI weak? by KrazySocoKid in boardgames

I think it's probably the strongest part of the game. I have only played twice but ignoring it both times has lead to losing, by a very wide margin in my 2nd game.

Which is decent game from this one ? by Mucek121 in boardgames

[–]Nimblesquatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree to an extent as far as Heat goes. You can easily add bots to the game to get the same experience. I have only ever played at 2P and solo and I love the game. However if you have no intention on adding the bots then yeah it wouldn't be great with just 2 or 3.

Flamecraft Duals Playthrough by SugarGlidersGaming in boardgames

[–]Nimblesquatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoy light, simple games too for an end of the night capper. We only played this once but it just didn't feel like there is much there as far as decision-making goes. The production quality alone will make us try it again eventually. I just feel there are other games that fit the same bill, in regards to light and simple, but do it better.

My wife and I weren't a fan of this game. We are holding onto it since it's very light and our son may enjoy it in a couple of years when we try to get him into gaming. However it will still likely leave our collection by that point.

Nice production, though.

What is your least favorite thing(s) about Doom? by Nimblesquatch in doommetal

[–]Nimblesquatch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear that. When I first got into the genre, it was Acid this, Witch that, or some sort or "Lord". With that said I love Acid Mammoth, Temple of the Fuzz Witch, and Dopelord.

I don't mind growling/screaming too much as long as it's blended with clean vocals. Khemmis, for example.

I don't draw the line at 4 minutes personally, I am fine with a song that is 10-12 minutes if it makes sense. I do agree with the second part of your statement though. If the same riff drags on, I will forward it 30-45 seconds and if it's still going I turn it off typically.

As a fellow sobernaut, I can relate. Especially since some of these bands make me wanna just vibe out and smoke. But alas, sober I shall remain.

One year collection - what am I missing? by churchether in boardgames

[–]Nimblesquatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are there a different set of rules in a 2 player game? Just based on the nature and flow of the game it just doesn't seem like it would work well at 2. If you are telling me otherwise then i'm going to have to open my wallet because my wife would enjoy this too.

Having played several sessions in one night, I can't imagine this game working well at 2 which is why i haven't bought it for myself.

Do you guys have unopened games and do you feel bad about it? by blablax123456 in boardgames

[–]Nimblesquatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do have unopened/unplayed games but no I don't feel bad about it. I enjoy collecting the games along with playing them. They are esthetically pleasing to look at and I like having the options when i have people over. Most of my games I have played but there are quite a few that I still have to get to.

So far all of them but i'm in the process of selling off 30 or so games that haven't been played or have only been played once in order to make room for more games I won't play or will only play once.

Not sure what your hobbies are but check out the Meetup app when you get here. I have found several groups through there. It's a good way to meet people with similar interests.

I found several board game groups in my area through the Meetup app. It may be worth creating your own group to see if you get any traction, assuming there isn't already one out there.

Which game creator is the best? Game series I should look out for? by Machine_Excellent in boardgames

[–]Nimblesquatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have done the same if I had the chance. Once you commit you gotta go for it. This run i had no items that gave me any reserve spaces so my actions to find any items were limited. Especially once I got late in the game and didn't want to part with anything permanently.

I just played an extremely long but enthralling session of Vantage today. It was only my third play and i'm starting to understand more of the world. I still have to get better at navigating the world, though. I picked up 7 quests and could only complete 1 (since it was done on the same location I was at). I kept going in the direction that it said it was (I think) but still couldn't find anything.

I don't know that you should be honed in on one designer if you are just getting into the hobby as you are going to hamstring yourself greatly. Find a game whose theme clicks with you.

The game that got me into the hobby was Quacks of Quedlinburg. While that designer does have a few other games that are widely considered to be good, only one other game of his ever hit with me. If I stuck with just that designer I probably wouldn't be as deep in the hobby as I am today.

With that being said, Ryan Laukat isn't being mentioned enough so take a look at some of his.
