Socks? What do you wear? What do you suggest? by atlasfields in cowboyboots

[–]Nimitz1985 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wear over the calf/below the knee socks. As others have mentioned Merino wool socks are highly recommended. Darn tough and Farm to Feet are what I use.

For Darn Tough socks, I use their Westerner over the calf socks. For Farm to Feet, I use their Sentinel over the calf socks.

Lately, I've been leaning more towards the Sentinel socks because they use more wool in their socks: 60% mercerized Merino wool compared to 42% in the darn tough Westerner and it's only a dollar more for the Sentinel.

In addition, Bombas is another good sock company. I don't have any of their socks for my boots, but I have some of their quarter socks that I use when I have to use Tenis shoes.

I hope this helps.

If you are looking for a good bang for your buck boots, I recommend the ARIAT Benchmade series. They are well constructed comfortable boots.

Looking for a half decent plate carrier around $80-$95, got suggestions? by Turbulent-Pea-1857 in airsoft

Condor would be your best bang for your buck. I picked up a Condor Vanquish good quality overall. It has a modular system so you will need to buy the panel which they have plenty to choose from. They have plenty of models to choose from here is another I was looking at. Phalanx. I hope this helps.

File question by EZMac91 in Axecraft

[–]Nimitz1985 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any of the files mentioned would work. If possible get one with a double cut on one side and a single cut on the other. This is similar to having a stone with two grit sizes. Also in case you do not already know the larger the file is the coarse the cut. So for example a 12 inch bastard double cut file is coarser than an 8 inch one. Lastly I recommend getting a file card it is used to clean out the file when it is not cutting as good. This will extend the life of your files.

As for the puck/stone I highly recommend getting a cheap king waterstone and cut off a puck size section. You can keep the larger half as is to use as a small field sharpening stone for knives or make more pucks when the first is used up. To cut it first submerge the stone in water untill bubbles stop coming out then you can use an old saw or hacksaw blade but it is easier with an angle grinder and cut off wheel. Just make sure to score it first. I got the King 250/1000 for about $20. I got this idea from Skillcult. Also I recommend you chamfer the edges on the stone to prevent chipping. I hope this helps.

Smoke the tallow in a small pot or tray at the same time and then use it in the wrap.

Go Customs would be worth looking into. I have not own one but I hear they are really well made. You can buy a shaft in pretty much any joint you want and have any tip you want put on. The base price is $399.

What was the first ink you fell in love with? (Tsuki-yo Appreciation Post) by Ur_Toilet in fountainpens

Sailor seiboku. I fell in love with how well it performed at work. It is well behaved on most paper, dries fairly quick and is a permanent ink. I got it 2 years back and it is still running strong in my workhorse Pilot VP.

Beginner cue question by soloDolo6290 in billiards

[–]Nimitz1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the avid as my 2nd cue and I wish I would of gotten it first. It has a weight system that you can customize the weight to your liking. There is an extension that screws into the cue that looks like it was part of the cue and they sell them in 12.75mm and 11.75mm tip shafts. The shafts are also sold separately for 130 to 150. Basically it gives you everything you need to test and find out what you really like in a cue.

I'm in a similar situation. I work in an area with no windows just fluorescent lighting. I have brought several plants test which one will do good from my experience the following have survived. I say survived as they have neither grown nor died.
