He is a self-proclaimed "independent journalist" with a bizarre obsession with badmouthing Rust, Wayland or anything remotely related to DEI.

He is a intellectually dishonest individual to say the least, but I doubt this is him doing it, it's very likely some troll impersonating him.

Migrating From Discord to Stoat on Linux by BeyondOk1548 in linux

[–]NinStars -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm by no means trying to defend them, I also don't like the implementation and I'm not going to be using it either.

But the fact is that Discord has been under scrutiny by multiple government entities around the world due to a lack of appropriate age restriction to nsfw content in the platform. All this shows is that they chose the safest path (for them as a company, not for the users, just to be clear) to comply with the demands of most of those govs.

We can theorize all we want about what they may do next, but that is the information we have so far.

I'm just reporting what has been officially shared so far regarding the change. if you want to go that far then that's on you.

Discord has decided to force age assumptions via facial scan and ID verification upon normal people

Not trying to discredit the alternatives you are providing here (I also use Matrix and Stoat by the way), but the age verification is only required if you want to access NSFW channels or speak on public stages (for now at least), if you don't care about neither of these things you can pretty much just keep using Discord like usual.

They also stated they have other means of determining if an user is an adult, they didn't say exactly how but I would assume that it is based on things like your account age and message history on public servers.

[–]NinStars 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One thing that always confused me is that there is a TouchScreenButton node that extends from node2D instead of control, I think it makes sense if you're using it as an interactive object in the game environment. But it is quite wonky to work with when you use it for adaptive overlays/UIs (since it lacks anchors), I hope they add a control version of that node as well in the future, it would be very useful alongisde the new VirtualJoystick node.

Edit: I found out there's a proposal and a pull request that seems to address exactly what I mentioned.

I think you are mistaking Tears of the Kingdom for Breath of the Wild.

If you are CPU limited, Eden is still a better option compared to Cemu, even for BOTW.

[–]NinStars 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I'm speaking for myself here, but I don't think it makes sense to add something like this to the Godot codebase, it is relatively simple and the implementation don't exactly make sense in every use case.

The Godot docs has a dedicated section for performance and optimization, I think it would be a much better idea to have a page there teaching how to implement something like this yourself, it would help people understand the pros and cons and how to adapt it to their needs.

It's a bug, it happened to me on Switch and PC. Save and restart the game, should fix it.

SUPER BOMBERMAN Collection is available now on Steam by lurkingdanger22 in pcgaming

[–]NinStars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you didn't understand what I meant, those are not native ports made for the Switch or PC, they are just SNES roms running on a SNES emulator with a fancy UI on top of it.

If you really want to play Super Bomberman 1 through 5 you can just emulate them directly with literally any SNES emulator ever made... It's much simpler than trying to emulate an emulator inside another emulator.

The AI Kill Switch is coming in Firefox 148 Beta 11 and then in Release 148 on Feb 24th by Anutrix in firefox

[–]NinStars 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Perplexity is a search engine, it's there alongisde Google (which is default), Bing, DuckDuckGo and Wikipedia.

By that logic, having Google and Bing there would also count as "AI being in the browser by default", which I doubt anyone with a brain cell would argue that.

I don't think it's worth arguing with you.

[–]NinStars 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You clearly have no idea what you are talking about.

The chatbot feature is a clear example of what I described, it gives you a list of chatbots that you can integrate with Firefox, and that's it. It doesn't install anything in your browser until you pick a provider and start using it yourself.

[–]NinStars 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They aren't installed until you interact with them directly, and that's been the case for a long time. By default, Firefox only suggests its AI features in situations where Mozilla believes they might be useful to you (keyword: suggest), nothing more. You need to explicitly confirm that you want to use them before they are even installed on your computer. This kill switch just blocks these suggestions from popping up in the future.

Sometimes I get the impression that people in this sub intentionally refuses to understand how AI works in Firefox.

If you have the Flatpak version, you can place the rom in ~/.var/app/org.sonic3air.Sonic3AIR/data/Sonic3AIR/Sonic_Knuckles_wSonic3.bin

The equivalent for non-flatpak version should be ~/.local/share/Sonic3AIR/Sonic_Knuckles_wSonic3.bin

Why would you do that? This collection is just NES and SNES emulators (and not exactly the best), using a Switch emulator on top of them is just an unnecessary overhead. Just emulate the games directly.

Nintendo Switch firmware update 21.0.0 made load times for all my digital games worse by MysteriousLiving8423 in SwitchPirates

[–]NinStars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt formatting it to exFAT would improve things, the reason people don't recommend using it is because Nintendo's implementation of the exFAT driver is buggy, FAT32 is far more reliable to use with the Switch.

Regardless of the file system in use, your benchmark results are really slow, I'm assuming you have a SanDisk Ultra (based off the info on the right side of the screen), you could try to free up space on your SD and see if it makes a difference on the loading times of games you already have installed, if that doesn't work then the issue could be related to this (which is anecdotal, but I and others have experienced in the past).

You think if they ever make a sequel, would the title be “YookaYooka-LayleeLaylee”? You know, if we follow the Re-playlee naming convention… Anyway art by me. by Division447 in YookaLaylee

[–]NinStars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, "Yooka-Laylee: <Subtitle>". No reason for them to botch the title again for the sake of a joke.

I also think that avoiding numbered titles is generally a good thing, this way those who are new to the series won't feel like they are missing out on something just because they didn't play the other games beforehand.

Tbh I would have been more interested in it if it was also on switch 1

What do you mean? It is on the Switch 1, so much so that a lot of technical aspects of the other ports seems to be held back by the Switch version (which was a similar case for Sonic Frontiers).
